  1. SunnyG I suppose I have become conditioned now to a continental style climate after nearly 20 years. The thought of facing a British summer brings shivers to me now as I am a right softy ! I still remember in fear of playing cricket wearing 3 sweaters at the start of the season when winds blew off the Yorkshire coast towards Wetwang CC... Brr. C
  2. SunnyG SunnyG Yes, probably all start to melt fast by the end of the week with a return of warmth hopefully. Still delaying my trip back to blighty as I cannot stand , persistent cloud wet and Atlantic winds anymore ! Maybe, a flaming June for you lot ? C
  3. Who likes snow at this time of the year ? Fourth consecutive day of persistent snowfall in these parts. Currently -1.6c in the village with a deep covering. Strange though as it was 30c in the valleys 10 days ago. The joys of spring ! c
  4. Third day of persistent snowfall in these parts with temp hardly getting above 0c throughout. Measured snow depth at 1300m is currently 20 cm and double that 2000m level above village. C
  5. A period of heavy snowfall has set in this afternoon. Max temp today was 2c but currently below freezing mark. Quite a dramatic change over the past 10 days , from almost barren slopes to deep cover. Even at 800m there is a general good cover. Most resorts now deserted with the season closed. Hotels having a spring clean and staff a well deserved break. The high obital resort of Obertauren over in nearby valley still in operation with wonderful ski-ing to be had but visibility not good in these conditions. Spring warmth expected to return next weekend, so best bet to put the ski- boots to bed for a few more months ! My thoughts are just a waste of snow falling at this time of year but hopefully some will be preserved over the cause of the coming summer heat. C
  6. So cold today. Actual temp fell during the afternoon and currently -1.6c with gloom and light snowfall continuous. 20th of April and coldest day since early Feb , now thats weird ! C
  7. Spring has suddenly turned very cold in these parts. Last weekend sitting outside and drinking beer in warm sunshine. So far this morning 17cm of fresh snowfall and temp - 1c. Great for snow farming up on the berg. C
  8. Snow showers galore today. Temp stayed around zero all day. Coldest day for 6 weeks ! C
  9. Evening. Heating back on . Icicles now showing on roof tops with blowing snow . Looks like a April of two halves' over here. First two weeks summer with a record 31 c recorded near Graz on Sunday, and now looks like winter for the remainder of the month. Current temp outside -0.5c. C
  10. After 30c heat on Sunday. Winter is back today.
  11. Found this wonderful photo taken in the snowy 50s in Lech. Definitely old school Apre ! Love it. C
  12. Sunday recorded the highest April temp ever in the Villach area with a reading of 30.9 c. Today it has snow cover in the same location with a current temp of +1c at 500m asl. C
  13. After an unprecedented warm end to the season, the new trend to snow farming is now in full force at the moment. Remaining precious snow is ploughed into quite large piles and taken to about 2000m level where it is insulated for the rest of the summer with a layer of saw dust or wood chippings. Currently, that is happening right now on the mountain above the village. Its jut amazing what the piste workers can achieve. Its a growing practice to help preserve the ski-ing business against the fast growing temperature rises. Wood chip in abundance in these parts as well. Hopefully, a lot of snowfall coming towards weekend with much welcome lower temps to add to the piles . C C
  14. Mid- Spring and well on course for the warmest Spring ever in Austria. Today quite a few places broke 30c mark and recorded the warmest April Day on record. Just incredible spell of weather in these parts. River beds just a trickle and that mostly from melted snow. C
  15. Morning all. After a record warm first week to April in The Eastern Alps , snow and lower temps have returned to higher elevations. Still waiting to book a trip back to the UK but holding back as that chart from UKMO does not really float my boat for The British Isles. Those chill winds off the North Atlantic definitely not to my liking. I will just have to wait and see a big fat high sat over Northern England before booking a flight from SZG to MAN ! Having the thought of visiting a decent pub and sampling a pork pie remains very enticing though. What do you think of all those trough lines over North Africa. How the hell do they align them ? C
