  1. Supacell, are there any places in particular you can recommend? I might have a drive over that area tonight if it looks worth it, but I don't know that area well at all, I'm more familiar with chasing east into Lincolnshire. Pretty pleased with what I've had so far, great storm about 9pm last night and another very good one around 4am. Of course I will always take more! Hope my homeland gets plenty of action tonight, I will be watching closely, good look everyone in the North East and everywhere else.
  2. Thanks for all the comments everyone, I've been waiting for a chance like that for a long time. Frustratingly there were quite a few good strikes which happened between shots, but so pleased I at least got these. The structure was pretty impressive too as it approached, need to go through those pics on my other camera and I might post them. Good luck everyone. Hope there is plenty more to go around.
  3. Here's a couple of photos, I think the 2nd one is my favourite UK lightning photo I have taken, so I'm very pleased. Got some good structure shots before it arrived, but yet to look at those as they are on my other camera.
  4. Brilliant storm in Nottingham, it's moving away north now but still regular flashes. Got some lightning photos and video which I'm going to look through soon and post. All the heat was worth it! Just hope you all get some.
  5. Lightning now visible to my SSW and SSE, this can't miss me surely, it's looking like a direct hit for Nottingham. All these weeks of horrible heat may be about to pay off for me at least, just hope nobody misses out during the course of the next 24-48 hours.
  6. Thunder heard here, I have a perfect view to the south of this approaching. Getting excited now!!! Already got some decent looking pics, I will upload some later.
  7. Cell near Leicester is developing fast, it was barely there 15 mins ago and now already got sferics. Getting the camera and tripod ready, but tea is cooking so I won't be leaving home, just got to hope for it to come close. Quite a cluster of strikes on the latest update!
  8. Well I've ended up changing things around a bit and I now have the morning off work. It's the last of my annual leave until the end of August so I hope it's worth it. Looking forward to a night of radar watching and hopefully some lightning photography opportunities. I have to be at work by 13:00 so with my luck expect a storm in Nottingham at 13:05 when I'm in work with no view! Good luck everyone.
  9. I'm stuck at work will limited access to charts etc. I don't know if anyone can help but I'm struggling to decide whether it's worth taking a half day off tomorrow and working from 7am-11am. Is the afternoon looking good for strong storms or could it all be over by then? Last time I looked the morning looked good, but I need to work at least from 7-11 so I might have to miss some action Looking forward to getting back tonight and joining in with all this excitement!
  10. Quite an encouraging forecast from the Met Office for the East Midlands which has just been updated... Tuesday: Bright or sunny spells early on and becoming quite warm, but showers will move north through the day, these heavy and thundery, giving a risk of local downpours. Maximum Temperature 21 °C. Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Feeling warm, humid, some bright spells but often cloudy with a risk of heavy, thundery downpours on Wednesday and Thursday. Brighter and fresher with sunny intervals on Friday. Issued at: 1600 on Mon 17 Jun 2013 http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/nottingham#?tab=regionalForecast Something to make the week more interesting anyway, at least there are chances.
  11. My bet on the northern extent at the moment would be around the Wash area and a bit westward. I think Lincs, Leics, Notts, Derbs could be in with a decent chance with S Yorks having a slight chance but obviously a lot can change. I'm hoping to get an early finish and maybe go chasing on the afternoon/evening.
  12. I totally agree about the difference between Germany and Austria. I have just been visiting my girlfriend again in Innsbruck, we went to Munich on the train and I found people there more serious and intimidating, but everything did seem very efficient. Even our Macdonalds order was ready before we had even finished paying! I've flown into Innsbruck three times in the last 8 months and it's always amazing. While there I have seen a large plane have an aborted landing. Each of my flights there have been very smooth. I'm so in love with Innsbruck now, I'm really going to miss it. Visited my girlfriend three times while she studies there and loved it every time. It helps having her there because she speaks very good German, but most speak good English and most seem very polite and welcoming. I'm gutted about my luck with storms though, failed to see any while I was there, I left on Saturday afternoon and there was a storm on Saturday night, with more to come this week. To make things worse there was a storm very close to Nottingham on Saturday while I was travelling back! I love Innsbruck though, I would recommend it to everyone and I can't wait to visit again some day.
  13. That's brilliant! Is that the line of cars near Amarillo?
  14. This is very intense so far, been close to tears a couple of times. It was good to see James showing that storm chasers are human and care about people.
  15. I'm going to Innsbruck and staying there, my girlfriend is having her year abroad there so this is the 3rd time I will have been to see her. November, May and now June. The only time I have left Innsbruck is when we went on the train to Salzburg last month. Have you been to Innsbruck? I love it, but I'm sure there are many more amazing places in Austria.
  16. That sounds amazing, I'm very jealous! Do you do photography at all? I bet you could get some stunning photos. I've only got a short window Wed 12th - Sat 15th to experience a storm in the Alps, but I'll be following the forecasts closely in the coming days.
  17. That must be an amazing place to live Carinthian. The climate there seems more interesting than here in the UK. 27C when I was last in Innsbruck last month but since then it has snowed almost down to city level. Seems like thunderstorms are often in the forecast too, but so far my girlfriend who is studying there has only had 1 storm. I'm going back over next week, looks like it's warming up again so I'm hoping for some storms. Do you get a lot of storms where you are during summer?
  18. I was out chasing on 28th June east of Nottingham. I saw large hail, lots of flooding, biblical rainfall, amazing storm structure, lightning and some wind/possible tornado damage to trees. Unfortunately I was stuck in traffic in Grantham because of the torch relay, I lost half an hour and by the time I caught up to the storm it seems I had missed the tornado. It was hard to find safe places to stop, so missed a lot of good photo and video opportunities, but I do have a video on youtube which includes some large hail and driving through floods and torrential rain. I'm at work and cannot access Youtube, but it should be easy to find using the link in my signature. Let me know if you are interested in any of it.
  19. Such a shame but I'm sure you'll be back next year. Might see you then. Wishing you a full and fast recovery.
  20. My favourite is definitely Ross Sands in Northumberland, just south of Holy Island. It has Lindisfarne Castle at one end and Bamburgh at the other. It's a long beach, very quiet, the closest you can park is about 2 miles away which keeps most people away. Been there with my girlfriend about 5 times now and sometimes we have it to ourselves even on decent days. Just got to watch out for the odd nudist! I would post some of my photos of it but I'm at work. I can highly recommend it though.
  21. Isn't this the first time in over 40 years that storm chasers have been killed by a tornado? It's all the more shocking that it was one of the very best, such sad news. If there is any good to come from this, I think it should put an end to trying to chase tornadoes through cities. It doesn't seem worth it. I remember being stuck in traffic in Fort Worth with a supercell heading towards us in 2009, there was no real danger, it wasn't tornadic and still quite far away, but I got a sense of feeling a bit trapped, there was nowhere to go. I'm still angry at the advice given out on some news stations, they put more traffic on the road by telling people to drive south and saying they could still outrun it, when it was only a matter of minutes away. RIP Tim Samaras, his son Paul and friend Carl Young.
  22. People going with lower temps than I expected. I would say 16-18c for me, but unfortunately in my flat it's often still around 30C in the summer when I'm going to bed. Even now it's 25.5C.
  23. If there was even a chance this was possible I would go for it, but got no spare money, no spare time off work, and I'm flying to see my gf in Austria on 8th. My only option is tonights Euromillions! If you can't find anyone through Netweather or facebook maybe you could post it on HotUKDeals?
