  1. Thanks for posting that NL, wish I'd been in the area last night and today.

I'm about 2-3 hours drive from the east coast here, plus my car is currently stuck under a big heavy fence that I can't move from yesterday so I had no chance!

I'm moving back to Stanley soon so it'll be nice to get involved on here a bit more :)

The Midlands thread is nowhere near as good.

  2. I've got the same worries, I'm not 100% sure if I can make it yet because of potentially losing my job, but it's hard to feel confident that it's actually going ahead anyway.

If I hadn't already been three times I would be worried I was being scammed.

The first year I went in 2009 it seemed relatively well organised with paperwork to sign and a info pack etc and dates and availability on here from about a year in advance. This year there's been nothing since I paid the deposit, only a "Welcome to Netweather Extra" email after I paid which in itself doesn't look good because I wasn't paying for Netweather Extra!

Anyway I hope things become clear soon and I hope I am able to go. As soon as I know about my job I will let Netweather know, just as I would hope they would let us know what's going on.

  3. My girlfriend was up at her parents just east of York last night and it sounded like a great storm there yesterday evening.

She reported lots of lightning and loud thunder and a spell of intense rain. I was gutted I wasn't there!

It looks like that area could be in line for more this evening, I'm not going up there until tomorrow night Posted Image

After reading through this thread today I think I'll be waking up in the middle of the night thinking about Newton Popplefield Weather!. Here at Nottingham Weather it's cloudy and warm.

I'd take some torrential downpours tomorrow, not expecting much thundery activity but at least there is a chance, something to hold my interest.

    Good luck everyone.

  4. Quite impressive I can see flashes of lightning from here when I look W/SW.

Looks like I'm seeing the cell near Uttoxeter which must be 30-40 miles away.

Better than nothing I suppose, I'm still keeping an eye on the cell around Gloucester which is tracking slightly further east than most.

Pinning my hopes on that at the moment.

Wow just seen fork lightning too.

  5. In Bristol at the moment, worth staying put or driving somewhere close by to catch a storm?

The Bristol Channel up towards Gloucester is looking good at the moment, nice line which has strengthened and has sferics.

Do you have a view to your north? I would imagine it looks impressive looking north from Bristol.

I think that bit could be in line to hit Birmingham and places slightly west of the main lot if it keeps going, maybe even Nottingham.

  6. Does anyone know what this front is expected to do in the coming hours? Personally I would like it to start sliding east a little.

I can just about see the front when I look west, so I'm hoping once darkness falls I might at least see some distant lightning flashes.

After starting the day quite oblivious to this risk I would take that.

Managing to resist the temptation to go for a drive at the moment, but if that line keeps active and stays out west I might have to go for a look!

  7. Looking at how the system is rotating I think the amber warnings are justified, but that's just my opinion, we will see.

I think there are many hours of heavy rain to come over N England yet as it slows and spins before pulling away north east.

I have very little hopes of any lightning up here though.

  8. I'm not building my hopes up at all for any thunder and lightning. I'm mainly just excited about the rainfall, hoping for an early morning drive to check out some flooding around the area. I think if there are storms they are most likely to be out to sea, so a trip to the coast might be a possibility for me.

No strikes in the UK for the last hour according to the Netweather detector.

  9. Looks like I came to the right place! Nice to see that amber warning for the North East.

I'm thinking the best place might end up being the coast, I get the feeling there could be some storms out in the North Sea.

I'm in Jarrow tonight, ready to drive to see something, but at the moment I think there's more chance I'll be driving around looking at floods than driving to see lightning, but we'll see. It's going to be an interesting evening/night.

Nice to be back on this thread, the Midlands one just isn't the same.

  10. Just been reading through the last thread about the Nottingham storm last night.

I desperately wanted to chase it but had to drop my gf off somewhere at 7pm and pick her up at 9:30 so I was very limited. By the time I could chase it was dying down a bit, got about 20-30 miles NE of Nottingham and caught up with the back edge. Saw some nice lightning but structure wasn't great by then. There was a lot of flooding on the way though, with some roads almost impassable. I passed a row of about 4 houses which had been flooded. Also did some damage to my car driving through a flood, it seems like I hit a manhole cover or something and ripped off some of the floor of the car, now I have plastic bits trailing on the road and some warning lights on the dash!

Anyway before that largely unsuccessful chase, I did get some decent footage of the rotating clouds. Here's a couple of short videos, both speeded up 16x.

First one is looking west at 17:11, looks like it was attempting to form a funnel here...

This is looking south at 18:05...

Bit frustrated at missing out on what could have been a memorable chase but I can't complain after having 4 storms this week!

  11. Well Nottingham got absolutely hammered last night, not seen rain like that for a long time. You could virtually hear thunder for the best part of 24 hours in & around Nottingham, one storm just followed another. Best of the thunder/lightning Monday Night with like I say rain of biblical proportions yesterday teatime.

Yes that rain yesterday teatime was amazing, like you say Monday night was better for thunder and lightning.

I had limited time last night but drove about 20 miles east to try to pick up that slow moving storm, didn't quite get close enough to see any decent action, bit of lightning, bit of thunder and decent structure.

The was a lot of flooding though, some roads barely passable. I hit something while driving through a flood and ripped off some of the floor under the car, also got loads of warning lights now so I think it got into the electrics :(

Need to work through the pics and videos from the last couple of days, I'm hoping to post all the decent stuff or maybe put it together in a highlights video.
