  1. Nearly into 2017! Then it starts feeling close Just started looking about for flights now and there are some decent prices about. Is it best to aim to get there around midday / early afternoon or is early evening ok? When are the others on tour 1 arriving? I know occasionally there's been a bonus chase on arrival day so I'll aim for an earlier arrival, and I wouldn't want to be the only one needing picked up later!
  2. Booked my place on tour 1 a couple of weeks back and I can't wait to get out there again for the first time in 6 years! Always an amazing trip even if the weather isn't kind.
  3. Unfortunately it's raining even here in Stanley, the snow is melting already. It was great to see though, hopefully there'll be a bit left in the morning.
  4. Puppy is loving his first snow. Really good covering here now and I can hear a car struggling. That's gone a bit wrong sorry.
  5. I turned down overtime at 2.2x pay, they thought I was mad! Still coming down heavy here and even though it's quite windy there's still the feeling of calm and quiet that snow brings.
  6. This is really impressive! Everything is covered, must be a couple of cm's already and lots more to come on radar. As Cloud10 says I don't think it's an exaggeration to call these genuine blizzard conditions. EDIT: I'm not in Nottingham, been back in Stanley for nearly 2 years!
  7. I think this first bit on it's way has pretty much died, nothing much on the lightning detector recently. I think I'll take this chance to get a couple of hours sleep, the stuff down south looks very nice My best guess for an ETA is 03:30. Have a good night!
  8. What a night Wednesday night was, I felt like I was back in the States! Very impressive and at times scary. I'm going to make a highlights video of clips of strikes and photos tomorrow but here are a few photos, check out the structure! Seen plenty of hail damaged cars and trees driving through Sacriston to work, mainly the north side of Sacriston and Daisy Hill. Never thought I'd see that in the UK. Classic supercell structure... Storm moving away over Newcastle... Not expecting anything as good as that tonight but I'm still keeping a close eye on it ready to head out to that same spot.
  9. Flashes and thunder to my south east! That storm over Teesside appeared from nowhere! That must be a good sign for the other approaching storms, still loads of energy to work with Think I might head out soon for a good viewpoint and try to get some photos.
  10. Those storms to the South West need to be watched, they look on course to hit some of us again! I'm considering driving out west if they look like missing here. Just hope they hold it together as they make their way over the Pennines. That earlier storm was impressive, large hail by UK standards. Brought back memories of chasing in the USA hearing the noise of them thumping the car roofs. No damage done though.
  11. I've got this all wrong walking on the moors too far west. Rushing back to my car now almost dying in this heat! Looks like I'll be storm chasing to my house. Enjoy it
  12. Impressive temperatures! I'm heading West to Waskerley soon for a walk on the moors which might become a storm chase. Nice to see showers developing already further south and some already popping up around the Pennines. Could get tasty later
  13. We've had numerous weather warnings for ice in recent weeks and it's been fine, then we get this and there's no warnings. If the council rely on the Met Office warnings that could be how they've been caught out. Just about to leave. Let's see how long this takes, Longbenton to Stanley.
  14. Thanks for that. I would leave now if I could but I'm relying on my Mam for a lift today so it's probably going to be rush hour. Quite surprised there's so many showers still, I thought they would have stopped by now.
  15. Anyone online from Stanley or a similar elevation? Just wondering if I'll have any trouble getting home from work. Now snowing in Longbenton after sleet and rain showers, just wet snow though.
  16. Your location is now looking better than mine for now, nice big blob looks like it's about to hit your area. I'm waiting for the lighter showers to hit here then going to bed, looks like a long gap after and my alarm is set for 05:35 for work Good luck everyone!
  17. Very sleety here in Jarrow, it's melting the frost off the rooftops. I knew I should have stayed in Stanley last night! With the low overnight temps and now this wet stuff falling I don't fancy heading home yet, wouldn't be surprised if it gets quite icy on the roads.
  18. Don't give up on the North Sea yet, there's more showers developing as they approach land. I'd say there's at least another couple of bands to come yet. Nice thin covering on all surfaces here.
  19. Just started snowing here in Stanley EDIT: Covering easily
  20. Netweather precip type radar shows rain at the coast then sleet within about 10 miles of the coast then snow further inland. Hoping it's snow here at 200m, it's not far away now.
  21. Things developing very quickly in the last 10-15 mins in N England ahead of the main band. This is looking good I think it's finally happening. I'm thinking I might need to drive west soon.
  22. Just left work and getting the metro to jarrow to collect my car then I think I'll be going down maybe to Sutton bank near Thirsk. The view from up there is amazing.
  23. Off work today and I'm planning a drive west towards the Pennines later. It's ages since I've chased any storms in the UK and I've got my appetite back now. Hoping they will develop in a similar position to last night so I can head up to the top of the moors at Waskerley. I'm wishing I was off tomorrow too though, Met Office warning just out... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?regionName=uk&tab=map Might have to take my camera to work and try to get away early.
  24. This was Friday 8th February in Aberfeldy, Scotland. Went for a walk in the woods and came across weird patches of white on some tree branches. The first one I saw I thought some plastic had got wrapped around it or something, then I started seeing more. They were just randomly dotted around, most of the forest was clear of any frost or ice but then some places it was really thick. Has anyone else seen this before? It was new to me I was really confused, in fact I still am confused about how exactly it forms and why it's only on the odd branch. From a quick read online it looks like it forms when there's freezing mist and a gentle breeze. It was only just below freezing the night before and it was misty. Here are the photos, first one just to show that most of the forest was clear... And here's some from the rest of the holiday... Mark.
