  1. It depends how you look at it... 850hPa temperatures are near record levels on Friday but because a strong surface wind... the 2m temperatures will be surpressed.
  2. In my experience that's usually what happens... It dies off.
  3. Pretty sure the band coming up from the south will be rain only today. I can't see thunderstorms later. This mist and murk looks like it will hang around too today. Currently cool but very humid.
  4. The area of rain is now starting to move away from my area, so it looks like my area will not see any activity tonight unfortunately. At the risk of sounding overly pessimistic , I have no expectation for any storms here now. I will however enjoy the pleasant warm weather while it lasts.
  5. Liverpool AP TAF having none of it, indicating heavy rain only. Here in Wirral it's raining heavily but no sign of any thundery rain or instability
  6. Some heavy rain now here in Northwest England, but not thundery. Touch and go as to whether thundery weather will affect western coastal parts of England. Liverpool TAF says no.
  7. My building is old and creaking... It's not good. Lots of damage from this I imagine.. I've heard few loud cracks and bangs .. it's very exposed here too to the west/southwest
  8. No sleet here but the wind is really blowing. No doubt there will be a few trees down
  9. 1.8C now and rising fast. Dewpoint also just above 0C so likely rain here
  10. -0.3C .. still a surprising amount of breeze out there.. it seems predominantly southwesterly now.
  11. Still +1.0C here with a slight breeze off the estuary
  12. Don't underestimate how quickly the temperature can drop.. in 2010 the temperature dropped from -3 to -10C in 3 hours. The fastest drop and the lowest tenperature recorded. It's going to be very cold indeed
  13. Isn't the wind off the sea tonight though? Only forecast -1 here tonight edit just seen the forecast and the wind goes 0 until around 3am
  14. Over snowfields across the country it's going to get seriously cold tonight.. possibly widespread -7 to -9 down south. Up here probably about -6 in parts
  15. There could be some seriously low minimas tonight in your areas.. where snow has settled -7 widespread I reckon
  16. as mentioned above that frontal system has stayed well south of where it was supposed to be, the pivot is less pronounced or not happening at all much.. so this has big influences on the type of temperatures and severity of frost, that people will get in the morning.
  17. temperature plummeting, an extremely cold night ahead.. already -2C, and with skies clearing from the north, after catching a little of that high cloud from the pivoting front, I think perhaps a -5 to -7C here by morning if the sky clears properly.
  18. This is going to cause a lot of pain but.. this wasn't forecast in Cornwall... https://newquayactivitycentre.co.uk/towan-beach-newquay-webcam/
  19. Unless that stratus layer is skirting you on its northern boundary.
  20. Looks like there may be an ice day today here.. the first one since last March.. although before that I'd have to go back to my childhood to find one no doubt. So a potentially rare phenomena today.
  21. Minimum'd out at -3.3C .. the coldest January morning since 2013!
  22. Far colder than I expected. Easily the coldest this year. -3.1C currently. That's within the range of normal expected absolute minima in winter.. still plenty of time to fall.. might make -4 by sunrise
