  1. Stopped now and the orange clouds have gone. But it was fun while it lasted, and it has added a cm or two as well Need to drive over to Kent tomorrow, so while I am loving the snow I don't want too much to make it impossible to get there. Anyway, enough excitment, lamppost and blob watching for me. Time for some zzzzs. Good luck with the snow over your way, Steve. you too, Paul. Night all
  2. The blob has arrived! Just started snowing pellets. Awaiting the meatier stuff Edit: Small flakes now, but snowing heavily and swirling in the wind. And now bigger flakes and really heavy!! Woohoo
  3. And the snow all but stopped again after giving just a brief dusting. Let's see what the next blob brings. It is following hard on the last one's heels, but already seems to be shearing to the south... This blobwatch is fraying my nerves
  4. Just started snowing with big flakes in Shoebury, Paul
  5. Glad we kept Lourdes in the good ship London & SE, Nick. Welcome aboard. Tis a tighter ship we're sailing now after throwing the northernlubbers overboard, but the question is are we in for the perfect (snow) storm over the weekend? And with all that snow being hijacked by the Kent crew members, I think we ought to bring out the cat o nine tails and do some keel-haulin' too. Now, you don't really want to upset a happy ship and keep it all to yourselves, do you, me hearties?
  6. Trust me, Steve, we got barely a dusting from it in Shoebury and it stopped. And the showers now seem to have died away, so by the time any new ones fire up this stream will have slipped south of us.
  7. Yay, the cavalry has arrived! It has started SNOWING in Shoebury Well not so much the cavalry as a lame pony, as the flakes are small. But getting heavier as I type. Over to you, Shrimpy...
  8. Good luck to you, hardcj I added some detail to that radar shot you posted just now, to show the Shoebury snow shield is working perfectly tonight... Edit: I meant to add that the above was said through gritted teeth. Except of course Essex County Council has virtually no grit left...
  9. Erm, how shall I put this? Zilch, nowt, not a flake...
  10. I don't believe this. The snow clouds are curving around us according to the raintoday radar! So that means we have snow to the west of us, north of us and north-east of us. And still sod all here! What with that front stalling just to the south of us in the Thames Estuary the other night, I am starting to feel like Custer. Surrounded and no cavalry to come to the rescue! So can all you lot in Southend, Westcliff, Leigh and Clacton all blow together so it can push the clouds over Shoebury? Ta muchly
  11. Oi, Paul, you've pinched our bloody snow! That had Shoebury written all over it and it has managed to skirt us to the north and west!! Nothing here whatsoever at the moment
  12. Snowing in Shoebury now Big flakes too Oops, spoke too soon. Gone light again
  13. Haha, I read that in tonight's Echo which got delivered earlier. I didn't realise that was you. I hope you realise those wise words will come back to haunt you now... They didn't include Netweather in that article, I see. I managed to sneak in a mention about storm chasing with Paul Sherman and Michael Fish when they ran a story on me last week, although sadly they didn't include anything about the NW site even though I gave them extensive quotes about it. Oh well. This is a link to that story: http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/4825705.Peter_snaps_up_top_travel_photography_award/ (see a thread I posted last week in the weather photography section)
  14. Super pictures there, Neil. They beautifully capture the snow over in Kent. Well done
  15. That's the same road that goes right by my house, Eve! And I just heard a bus go by. I'm sure the buses are in cahoots, because every time I get in the car and am about to reverse out one comes along and pulls up at the bus stop opposite or the one outside my neighbour's house (or both) and I have to wait until they pull away - and then wait while the old biddies cross the road. Always in a direct line to my driveway! Yet when I am rushing to get to the station and wait for a bus there are never any. Anyway, back on topic... The shower stream seems to have dried up a bit for the moment looking at the radar, but with that potent low just off Norfolk I am pretty sure there is far more to come. I need to get to Kent either tomorrow evening or on Saturday, returning late evening. Question is, which day is likely to be less disrupted by the weather or leave me possibly stranded. Thoughts, anyone?
  16. Even more unreal for us right by the estuary in Shoebury, aka the Sleet Capital of the World. Still snowing after a very heavy shower, although lighter now, and according to xcweather.co.uk we have temps of -6C! So much for marginality...
  17. And good to see you back on here posting again, Louby. Been out with your camera for snow pics yet? Hey, Shrimpy, am I right in thinking you were asking earlier about wind direction and how to find that out? Easy - just go to http://www.xcweather.co.uk/ where they not only have the current wind but also projected direction and strength over coming days for the whole country, plus current and projected temps as well for lots of different locations. Very useful site, and for those with an iPhone they even have an app you can download to find out if you are away from your PC. Simples
  18. Heavy snow and settling in Shoebury. Finally! Dunno about your 50p sized flakes, Steve M, they are £2 sized here. Obviously a better class of snow in Essex...
  19. lol, like it LS. I can't believe how that front got so close last night and then pivoted away from us just as it got to the Thames Estuary, leaving sleet and a few wet snowflakes. And then the streamer this morning set up just to the north of us, again giving just a few flakes, and now seems to have lost all its energy. Not doing anything here at the moment. I'm not moaning, though. It is great to see others have had some spectacular snowfall, and it really does prove that even in the era of the so-called m*dern winter (unlucky to say it out loud), you still can get some surprising events. Our turn may yet come, perhaps over the weekend if not later today or tomorrow. Hi Darren - that is unusually downbeat of you. And you say you are going to see your girlfriend in Guildford, but the only thing keeping you going is the chance to see some proper snowfall! I bet she'd love reading that!!
  20. Great! I can look forward to even heavier sleet then... EDIT: It is officially snowing now here, too (Shoebury, in the snowless wastes of South East Essex)
  21. Can't believe it. Snow right across the Thames Eastuary in Sheerness etc, and what do we get in Shoebury? Bloody sleet! Aaaarrggghhh. Where's that prozac?
  22. Thanks Ian Any chance you could rub out the line at the top and redraw it just a few miles to the north so that it covers SE Essex? As earlier, I can see the snow clouds just skirting to my east and south, and from the radar it looks like that is going to continue. Oh well, good luck to you all in North and East Kent. I am guessing you won't need Steve M's Kentimetre ruler as you may get enough for real snow depth measurements!
  23. Well, the dark clouds are now overhead, but no snow as yet. I just checked xcweather and the winds are now forecast to be northerly right through this evening and tonight, and even turning westerly over the next couple of days. D'oh! However, look ahead to Friday and they show a steady NEly turning progressively more easterly, and increasing in strength to 30-40mph by 9pm. Now if those winds are loaded with snow it will be a huge snowfest - and quite far inland, too. Just bear in mind what Tomasz said on the Countryfile forecast, though. The low could end up further south, and would then affect fewer areas or produce less snow for many. But of course, further south for us could mean the winds will be even more out of the east. The excitement is starting to build. Let's just hope the reality doesn't disappoint.
