  1. Yeah Not much to development out there at the moment.
  2. For @101_Northand others hoping for more snow around Edinburgh, this is the approximate area that we need to watch for development given the current orientation of the cells.
  3. Ugh. I wish there was the UK equivalent of this site from the US. @LomondSnowstormor anyone else know of anything? Use this site all the time for mesoscale forecasting back in the States. Would be invaluable right now. SPC Hourly Mesoscale Analysis WWW.SPC.NOAA.GOV
  4. Remember to submit your totals! WQ Snow Depth Reports WEATHERQUEST.CO.UK
  5. Same story here as well. About 2.5 inches in Morningside (estimated not meadured). But we’ve been at that level since about 2am.
  6. Just finished thumping here! Can’t sleep because I am too excited. Long night of watching the radar.
  7. I estimate about 5-10 more minutes before full whiteout mode again in Edinburgh
  8. Argh! I am in a late night work meeting but it sounds like I missed a good squall!
  9. Finally! Steady snow that is sticking in south Edinburgh.
  10. How much of this (over land) is sticking? And how much is snow as well. Its a good sign that this activity is picking up as we head into nighttime. Stupid sunshine is screwing up boundary layer temps!
  11. I'll take a shot! Graupel is a combination of lots of cold air aloft, shallow (and i mean quite shallow) warm layer near the surface and pretty strong uplift. All 3 of which are certainly present today.
  12. Yup. Tonight and tomorrow always looked like the prime periods for Edinburgh snow.
  13. I haven't lived here long enough to lean on experience, but I would tend to agree that something doesn't seem quite right with this setup. Even in the days leading up to this "event", the environment around Edinburgh never really felt correct for accumulating snow. Lots of sleet and graupel when the cells did move over the area, but thats it. And now this sunshine isn't helping surface temps at all.
  14. Over the next few days, its all about nowcasting and diagnosing where these convergence zones set up. Clear from radar where they have set up tonight I am going to use the convective indcies to highlight Tuesday morning/afternoon for the eastern Central Belt and eastern Scotland in general. Postion of the streamers "generally" parallels the pressure contours. Tuesday morning has a decent looking pressure gradient and some hints at increased instability as well. All good signs for some decent snow. Especially around Edinburgh! Met Office T+36 charts also show this timeframe as favorable for snow around Edinburgh and eastern Central Belt. Looks like the convergence zones and subsequent streamer positions will slowly sink south over the next 24/36 hours.
  15. Alright @101_North, whats going on up your way? I've had nothing but graupel at 100m all day today!
