  1. B87 June 2012 saw an average max of 16.6C.. and in 91, a max of only 15.6C! Most May's are warmer than that these days. I suspect 1971/72 to be even lower.
  2. The disparity between north and south climates is quite astonishing, especially in summer. The 10 year average max for Heathrow is around 25C for July. Up here it's more like 21C, though we do get the odd month where it does average 25C (July 2018). Last July, the average max for Manchester Airport was 18.9C. July 2020 saw 18.4C. Those figures would be near impossible down south. I'd class anything below 20C as quite cool, and below 19C as very cool for the given climate. Anything above 22C would be warm, and 23C very warm.
  3. 20C - 14th April 25C - 22nd May Summer predictions: 30C - 7th July I don't think we'll reach 35C, going for a max of 33.7C.
  4. Roger J Smith Shows how exceptional February actually was. I have a feeling we'll end up around average for the CET, unless there's a cold second half or we see another 2022 style warm spell. There's a chance that even April could come in below February's CET, if any blocking we see is positioned north of us.
  5. SollyOlly Agree, the first half of July 2018 wasn't too bad given the humidity was quite low. Only found it uncomfortable during the second half and into August. As for what heatwave I'd like to see this year, a one that maxes out at 25c. Preferably none, but this climate doesn't support that anymore
  6. The 1779 record still lives on.. I wonder how long that will last for given the unprecedented amount of warmth February has seen recently. It's clearly our fastest warming month of the year, close to July. The average CET for February since 2019 is a staggering 6.7C.. surely it has to break at some point. Feb 2024 would be considered a warm March, the 15th warmest March in fact. Still, it doesn't even come close to December 2015 figures which blew the previous record out of the water.
  7. Uncertainty First BOOM chart since mid Jan. Of course we start to see eye candy as soon as winter ends lol
  8. Harry233 A year of extremes 2021 was for you guys. I went to Dundee in August 2021 and was astonished how sunny and warm it was, certainly didn't feel like your typical Scottish summer. 2021 had a sort of continental feel, similar to 2013 and 1995. Southerners can't relate as they had one of the dullest summers on record.
  9. Yes Scotland did have a pretty cold winter in 20-21, can recall Edinburgh dipping to -14C in February with deep snow. Braemar recorded -23C which was the coldest February temperature since 1955 I believe. Definitely one of the better winters of the 21st Century for Scotland.. too bad the low minima didn't make it's way down to England.
  10. Some recent examples in the last 10 years; December 2014 - December 2015 September 2015 - September 2016 February 2017 - February 2018 February 2018 - February 2019 June 2018 - June 2019 April 2020 - April 2021 May 2020 - May 2021 July 2022 - July 2023 September 2022 - September 2023 December 2022 - December 2023
  11. Weather-history Winter 20-21 doing quite well in regards to winter index, beating other more notable winters 10-11 and 17-18. It was mostly cold that winter, but nothing severe.. never dipped below -5C if I'm not mistaken. Meanwhile Winter 23-24, a record breaking mild winter had pretty low mins at the start of December and mid January around -6 to -8C. A very strange winter indeed.
  12. Derecho Yes pretty accurate so far, though I doubt May, June, July, October CETs would ever occur, in our lifetimes at least.
  13. Hmm interesting update, something colder afoot in March? I guess after an exceptionally mild February, it's way more likely March will come cooler, though due to the poor performance of these long range updates I'm not yet convinced. Could easily swing to mild, which let's be honest is almost certain lol. Would be comical if March came in colder than all three winter months, as seen in 2013.
  14. Expecting a cooler, drier March compared to February.. however I wouldn't be surprised if it turned quite mild due to SE winds. Going for 7.2C and 72mm. Thanks
  15. SunnyG Guess I'm the minority here, since I actually enjoy darker evenings. Something so comforting and peaceful about it, though the leccy bill says otherwise which ig is the only downside.
  16. Sherry Lol really? That's like saying who wants hot weather in summer.. Winter is meant to be cold, not freakishly mild like the last few weeks. I hope 2024/25 delivers, been way too long since we've gotten a classic. Can finally pass this wretched winter aside, and look for drier weather in Spring.
  17. baddie 2016? Quite a chilly March-April occurred after that horrible winter. Some even saw snow late April
  18. raz.org.rain Anything dry will do. Absolutely sick of this persistent wet weather.
  19. SunnyG I get where you come from, for me any summer that's predominately cool is a good summer. Can't stand the heat.
  20. AderynCoch Couldn't have said it any better. Definitely the worst winter month I've ever experienced, next to December 2015. I know it isn't ideal but I hope we see a cold, frosty and sunny March-April to compensate for the absolute dismal conditions we've been facing. This winter has been beyond depressing I've sort of lost hope for the upcoming one.
  21. Jason M Possibly, or it could all be an illusion and we see the warmest March on record. Jokes aside it can still get quite cold at the end of March into April.. think March 2013/Apr 2021. Even late April 2016 had a pretty potent cold spell with snow showers. Definitely nothing like what we could get in January but cold, yes.
  22. Looks like quite the reversal if these charts are anything to go by
  23. Derecho It's just hard to fathom how this month could have a similar CET to March 2012 which saw 8.4C. The last few February's have been exceptionally mild, but this takes it up a notch.
  24. I'll go out on a whim and say March and April will be cooler than February, quite an interesting statistical quirk. Then we'll see a warm, dry May to end it off. March: CET 5.5-6.0C Cold first half, dry mild second half. April: CET 7.5-8.0C Mild days, chilly nights. Lots of sunshine. May: CET 13.0C-13.5C Dry and warm for the most part, possibly record breaking warm temperatures at times. Would make an interesting spring!
  25. Shillitocettwo Sounds like a nightmare lol. Even with CC those CET's are virtually impossible. Imagine an 18C May though, sounds bizarre.
