Still got lying snow outside and with a partly clear sky it proimises to be a cold night here. This should help to finally get rid of the remaining leaves on the trees and, (I hope) is a sign of winter to come.

We didn't come off to badly round here by all accounts. One fence panel blown down in our close is as bad as it got. One surprise from this storm - I woke up to a covering of snow this morning, which was nice to see.

Absolutely nothing in the strathclyde area at the moment, clear skies and a moderate breeze. Strange to be totally missing out on a stormy spell.
Consider yourself lucky. We only have a yellow warning for wind where I live with gusts expected to top out around 50mph and I'm pretty anxious, so I can't imagine how worried people in the red warning area might be.

So another mild day and that same old sense of foreboding is already creeping in. Will it be abother mild winter? Dominant Euro high all the way through until beyond Christmas? Long-fetch southwesterlies? I'm not hopeful at the moment about the coming winter prospects but you never know.
At least the mild weather saves on heating bills I suppose.

Can't see anything in regard to winter outlook
It was mentioned in that day's video forecast, but that might have changed by now.

Yes 96-97 very front loaded.. similarities with 81-82 but not as severe..
01-02 this delivered a cold December but not especially so and the start to 2002 was very cold.. but by the 4th the mild air crept in and that was that for cold rest of the winter.
Back loaded winters include 04-05, second half of Feb and first part of March were cold.. not especially but very easterly. 85-86 delivered the exceptional February. I can't think of many others though.
2012-13 was a back-loaded winter, with a cold February and very cold March. For my mind it's the best back-loaded winter in recent years.

Nice out there isn't it. Cool clear air, blue sky, bit of a nippy breeze, and dazzlingly bright sun low on the horizon. A few more days of this please.

It’s only rained a handful of times. Personally I prefer this. A couple horridly wet days followed by three weeks of dry whether. Much better than days of drizzle.
Actually if we could arrange for 50mm overnight every other Sunday it only needs to 26times a year to give us more than enough to get by and I’d never look like a drowned rat again like I do now after running back to my car after work …
Well personally I hope it's unsettled and blustery for the next few weeks, with a big change sometime in mid-November with a huge drop in temperature with the arrival of wintery weather that persists until some time in the following March.

There's a real difference in the feel of things now, much cooler and fresher with clearer air which is in sharp contrast to the almost soupy humidity of last night.

To be fair.....a broken clock is right twice a day.
I was thinking of digital clocks. You may have heard of them...

To be fair to the Express (lol), the top front page (Worst Freeze for 20 Years) dated January 2013 wasn't completely off the mark, since that late winter and early spring were very cold. That was probably an example of a stopped clock being right once a day though.

Not looking hopeful for coldies (me included) is it. I hope these long range forecasts are proven wrong.

Another boring, sunny day. It's bizarre just how settled it's been, and the fact the trees are still almost fully green let alone in leaf is getting a bit disturbing.

Oh look. The Sun is predicting a white Halloween this year. If that's what The Sun is saying then it MUST be true right?
Time to get the old shorts and t-shirt out then.

There's a fair few on here who do hope for that.

Quite a few showers today, and we've just had a huge crack of thunder from a shower just passing to our south. Certainly is eventful weather.

Such a change to walk home in the breeze and occasional drizzle. Made for a nice change; lovely bit of Autumn weather.

What a lovely day! Fresh, breezy, sunny spells and now what looks like a shower blowing in on the breeze. I can't remember the last time we had such a belated, sudden yet welcome shift in seasons as this.

Very useable for those who like to be comfortable instead of sweating and sleeping badly.

It feels more like August than late September at the moment. Quite humid and with little wind, this is the kind of weather I'd hoped to have seen the back of by now.
Winter had better be cold to make up for all this warmth...

Spring 1996 continued the cold theme IIRC, with March effectively feeling like a continuation of winter. I was very young then but remember some very cold weather in March at times.
-
Soon the weather will finally, finally change to something properly autumnal. I can't wait to see the back of this weather, just a few more days of "warm sunshine" to suffer through.

Exactly my thoughts. Sunny weather is anything but boring, no matter what the season or temperature. A grey sheet of nothingness on the other hand is the epitome of boring.
Sunny weather sometimes makes me feel irritable, while cloudy weather is usually very calming and relaxing.
More to the point - when is autumn going to actually start? We're in late September now and it's still a little on the warm side. I was looking forward to the change to breezier, cloudier and cooler weather but here we go again: sunshine, albeit hazy with temps in the high teens/low twenties.

It's snowing here now; this spell gets better and better! It's such a shame the milder weather's set to return soon.
