  1. Could some one enlighten me , as a rookie lurker, -what is a Bartlett? Cheers!
  2. Minus two this morning. Fog rolled in for an hour or so but now pulled back a bit . No wind. hoping to get some sun through soon....
  3. Got a bit of strange white stuff frozen onto the road. Might have been snow when it fell.....No other sign ansd barely any ice or frost anywhere either.
  4. Anyone on here in the east/mid Dartmoor area? The netweather radar had snow there yesterday eveing , but what was the real picture? Nothing here of course -barely even any frost visible depite the freezing temps as the wind has dreis everything off a bit .
  5. The best it can do here is hail , but its sufficiently cold for it to stay around. Not expecting any thing unless the overall pattern gets really exciting -too mild here- too much sea air! Always enjoy a bit of vicarious snow though! North Cornwall near Bude, 500ft asl.
  6. Ever a lurker, learning lots though, but had to pop my head in to say Happy Christmas to you lovely lot. Its been such an amazing couple of months or so, and such excellent posts. Extra thanks to those who remember us rookies who dont know all the abbreviations and how the atmosphere ticks.Have a fabulous Christmas and roll on the crispy-white encrusted New Year!
  7. Really appreciate your descriptions of what's happening Knocker. I am scraping bits of understanding together gradually, and as a beekeeper the state of the weather can be quite critical, quite apart from the general day to day -can I cut the grass type of thing. Regards, Rowan, from the other end of the county.
  8. Cornwall has gust s of 45-55ish depending on location. A lot of flooding now and also a large number of power-outs especially around Plymouth and Truro. It has really gone up a notch in the past hour.
  9. Blowing hard here with torrential rain in the squalls/gusts. Nothing remarkable yet.
  10. i remember walking home from school in '69 because the school buses were cancelled. The snow arrived really fast and the wind blew it into drifts. It was'only' ankle deep for our three mile cross country walk home, as it had blown off the flatter areas.
  11. 50mph is around force 9 Beaufort, /45knots. A gust at that strength will knock you over.
  12. Fierce hailstorm here -(EX23) around 5pm ,winds 35mph, a few pixels of snow on Dartmoor
  13. Really surprised by the wind levels even allowing for the naturally sheltered dip our house is in. We've had it at least as bad if not worse in the past. I dont know if I'm disappointed or relieved. A bi of a let down unless theres a bit more to come, but on the other hand, I still have a polytunnel.
  14. Wind is cranking up already today. I could do with an anemometer. (probably get a dictionary at the same time -I nearly gave up and put wind-measuring thingy!)
  15. Hi every one. I've been 'lurking' for over a year, learning a lot -mostly about not getting too excited by anything more than five days away! But really just very interested in weather, and trying to get more of an understanding of the way it works So today - soaking up the sunshine ahead of the next round of wild wet and windy.
