Thanks. None of the factors you mention normally have much effect round here. The only thing I can think of is the unusually high temperature in the high pressure area, but it is hard to see why that should lead to the disappearance of Coriolis.

Could someone explain why here on the west coast of Scotland we currently have a south-east wind ? Looking at the pressure charts the wind is going straight from high to low pressure whereas I was under the impression that it should, more or less, follow the isobars.
