  1. You are running a very old version of the firmware. I strongly suggest that you update the console firmware via SD card as soon as possible. The current version is 1.7.4 https://osswww.ecowitt.net/uploads/20210702/user.bin Once done then investigate to see if this has resolved your issue
  2. If everything else from your all in one sensor is updating OK, wind. temp, solar output etc then I would suspect that either the tipper is 'sticky' or you have a failure. I personally have had an issue one summer where the bucket someho got coated ins something sticky and effectively glued the bucket in place. Whenever I checked and manually tipped the bucket it registered as OK but then 'stuck' itself again. Fortunely with a bit of WD40 around the hinges I managed to resolve the issue and its been fine since. In your case however it is possible for the rain gauge to have failed and you will have to investigate to establish that. One other option that you have is to reset the outdoor sensor. You will find a pin hole on the underneath to do that and once done you may need to reregister the outdoor sensor with your console again.
  3. OK, so if you are being specific in your requirements then go for Ecowitt products. If you want a Display start with a HP2551C and add some WH31 temp/humidity sensors. You can have up to 8. If not bothered by a display and happy with using an App or web pages then buy a GW1000 and same sensors as they are all interoperable. You can add Soil Moisture sensors (upto 8). Shortly there will leaf wetness sensors and Soil temperature sensors available too. There are many other sensors as well such as Lightning and air quality etc If you do want to measure rain then you can add that as with Wind anemometer options at any time. The prices are very reasonable and Ecowitt are a fantastic company to deal with. ECOWITT Welcome to Ecowitt! WWW.ECOWITT.COM ECOWITT Welcome to Ecowitt
  4. Hard to say but first things, have you updated the system firmware (via SDCard) and also the wifi Firmware (via WSView app on a smartphone) ? The latest System Firmware is V1.6.9 and can be downloaded here> https://osswww.ecowitt.net/uploads/20201107/HP2551_V1.6.9.zip Some of the earlier firmware had some random issues so just checking that you have done the updates?
  5. You can reset the external sensor array and also re-register the sensor array with the console. That should resolve the issue unless you have a faulty external sensor array. The manual that explains all can be found here: https://osswww.ecowitt.net/uploads/20200921/c22d73bcd5522cda0d266cb8a9d1b4dd.pdf
  6. Most if not all stations calculate the dewpoint from the temperature and humidity. So if your SHT sensor is on its way then yes this will need fixing. You will probably get more technical advice on the WXForum from more experienced Davis owners there.
  7. Dont get too hung up about placement. Ideally the wind anemometer needs as high as possible, the rain gauge about a foot from the ground and not obscured, the temperature sensor about 1-2m and over green surface etc. There are placement guides. Now clearly you cannot meet this with an all in one sensor so really all you can do is place it in the best location you can find. I have my sensors on angled aerial brackets on the side of the garage. Not perfect by any means but it gives me relative readings in my location for me! You will also have to remember that periodically you will need to replace the backup batteries (at least every 2 years) and routinely check the rain gauge for stray crap/leaves/bird guano which will all block the operation. So putting it in a place you can get at it is also important. The all in one sensor also ideally needs to be in as sunny a location as possible as it runs for as much of its time from the solar panel and a super capacitor. There is a excellent support forum for all the ecowitt stations and their clones here where you can learn heaps. 8. The Ventus is a base level station and will get you in at the ground level. It is in fact a rebadged version of the Ecowitt WS2910. You can find the manual here: https://osswww.ecowitt.net/uploads/20200923/2607a385984df34004a69f5d5f0d2b23.pdf It does have its limitations however as the display console only supports the standard bi/tri-wing all in one sensors. If you are likely to want to add sensors and get more into weather station activities I would encourage you to look at the Watson 8686. This has a superior screen and allows pretty much any additional sensor that Ecowitt makes to be displayed. The Ecowitt manual for this model can be found here: https://osswww.ecowitt.net/uploads/20200921/c22d73bcd5522cda0d266cb8a9d1b4dd.pdf At the end of the day it will come down to how much you want to spend and how likely you will want additional sensors.
  9. That's a bit of a poor choice for a modern weather station as its limited expansion wise and internet connectivity wise. A better choice is the HP2551 clones (See the Watson station here) Watson W8686 – NEW! – Nevada Radio WWW.NEVADARADIO.CO.UK With this you can auto upload to the Internet (ecowitt, net and other services) and add extra sensors as you want from Ecowitt. This is much more future proofed though will cost a little more than the WS2085 For the full range check out www.ecowitt.com which is the master brand for Fine Offset (Watson, Aercus etc are all rebadged version of Ecowitt)
  10. I dont think its low angle sun as the peak was 2pm, so its probably just a burst of sunlight from a cloudy period. These sensors are very reactive and far faster than any old school thermometer!
  11. I will say that the internal temperature is pretty good in the base all in one. The next step up is the WS80 Ultrasonic anemometer which also measures the temp/humidity and solar. The radiation screening is better on this model Following this is the the WH32 and WH32-EP. This is a standalone temp/humidity sensor for using externally but requires a radiation shield. The EP version has a wired probe and is SHT35 based which is high precision and requires a waterproof box and radiation shield. I have this latter EP model and the other two for comparison. In a normal day the most deviation I have seen is about 1.5C from my precision sensor and this on hot days when the sun is at a low angle and is striking the temp/humidity sensor housing on the all in ones. So all told they are pretty good and you dont really need to upgrade for temperature reasons unless you start getting really keen.
  12. For reference I have the following now Ecowitt HP2551A + WH65 Tri-Wing (Wunderground: IGUILDFO67) Ecowitt GW1000 (Wunderground: IGUILDFO68) Ecowitt GW1000 (Mk2) test environment driving CumulusMX on a RPi 3b Ecowitt WH51 (x6) Soil Moisture Sensor Ecowitt WH41 PM2.5 External AQM Sensor Ecowitt WH31 (x8) internal Thermo/Hygro Sensor Ecowitt WS80 Ultrasonic Anemometer (pre-prod test) Ecowitt WH57 Lightning Sensor (pre-prod test) Ecowitt WH32-EP (SHT35) + Davis 7714 Screen (External high precision temperature and humidity sensor) Ecowitt WH45 CO2/PM2.5/PM10 (production Test) Internal AQM sensor These were all purchased or provided by Ecowitt (www.ecowitt.com)
  13. My first advice on this is dont get hung up on placement too much especially with all in one sensors as you have to compromise on location for at least some of the integral components. What do I mean you ask! - Well ideally you need the anemometer to be as high as possible and well away from any obstructions such as houses and trees to avoid swirl effect and venturi effect on wind. Rain gauge needs to be close to the ground and not shielded in any way. The Temperature/Humidity sensor needs to be approx 4-5 feet off the ground and ideally over a green surface and in direct sunshine as much as possible. Now on top of that you must recognise that you will have maintenance to do, such as removing debris from the rain gauge quite often (you'd be surprised!) and changing the backup batteries at least every 2 years in the sensor. So taking all that into account its very hard to find the optimum location. So don't stress too much if you chosen location is not perfect, just accept that the measurements that you take are relative to your back garden. If you really get hooked then you can invest in a separate temperature/humidity sensor and place that in a good radiation screen such as a Davis 7714 or Barani Meteoshield, a separate rain sensor, a separate anemometer package etc and place them all in optimum locations in your garden etc. On top of that are all sorts of other sensors such as air quality or lightning etc.
  14. Sadly for now you cannot purchase from Froggit due to Brexit, though fingers crossed they may sort that out and allow UK folks to purchase again. Only option for the additional sensors and bits is now direct from Ecowitt the master manufacturer brand. On my station I have ecowitt's own bird spike kit. They sell 2 types a small one for the Bi/Tri wing sensor array and a slightly larger one for the standalone rain sensor. Or of course you can make up a home made solution, there is not a lot in it TBH! I know some folks have purchased a spare black collector and glued pins or wires on as deterrents.
  15. It will be either 868Mhz (most likely) or 433Mhz. 915Mhz should not be used in Europe as its reserved for Cell Phones/Mobile Networks It might be written on the back of the Console or failing that go into settings and the about screen that shows the firmware versions will show what frequency model that you have. Once you know what frequency that the console is set to you can get additional sensors of the correct frequency,
  16. No it wont. You can have both registered on the console but the WS80 will take precedence data wise for Lux, wind and Temp/Hygro. This means that the WS68 (Tri/Bi-Wing sensor) just is used for its rain gauge. This is actually how I have mine running currently. You could buy 2 GW1000 and have one look at the WS68 only and the other can look at both. The console or GW1000 cannot take both wind measurements and use them both, one or the other is discarded automatically.
  17. I will also recommend the Watson 8686 from NevadaRadio if you want a local UK supplier. If you are happy to buy from overseas then take a look at Ecowitt.com as this is the original company that makes the re-branded Watson. It might take a few weeks to be shipped but the prices are good and support excellent. There may also be a customs charge as thats been a big thing lately, though when I last bought something I had no charges. The big advantage of the Ecowitt system is the modular nature of the sensors etc which means you can add all sorts of cool kit such as ultrasonic anemometers, Co2/Pm2.5/PM10, Lightning etc These stations are by and far the most widespread stations in the world and quality is only second to Davis VP and are better than Davis Vue.
  18. Greetings and apologies for slow replies as I don't often look at this website. I would for this sort of money definitely recommend the latest generation of FineOffset weather stations. The home brand for FO is now Ecowitt and you can order direct from them paying the USD amount via Paypal and they will ship to the UK, though you may get a customs charge, The favourite main station is the HP2551 and its various clones (rebranded) You used to be able to buy Froggit stations from Germany until Brexit got in the way, now the only option is a Watson station from NevadaRadio based in Portsmouth, UK. Personally I have bought all my kit direct from Ecowitt in Shenzen. You may have to wait a few weeks for shipping but at least you are getting it direct from the manufacturer. There are some excellent forums with help and information at WXForum if you are interested in this type. I did post a review on this forum about the HP2550 when I first bought it which might also guide you.
  19. Most folks tend to use TV aerial mounts. You can buy low cost aluminium aerial poles for various configurations from Amazon UK
  20. Personally I would not choose any of those options. Take a look at Froggit.de which will ship to the UK. Vastly more expandable. There is also the master source at ww.ecowitt.com which sells the weather station kit direct from HK.
  21. I second, Mapantz suggestions. The stations sold by Froggit are made mostly by FineOffset and for the budget are far superior to the Ventus models and have a lot of expandability should you desire to add sensors for various things. You will find if you go into weather forums that there is hardly anyone posting about Ventus stations but thousands posting about Froggit/Ecowitt/Ambient etc which are all branded Fine Offset stations, These stations are second only to Davis in the enthusiast stakes and are much more keenly priced. There are some other niche players but they are really still works in progress in my opinion
  22. Enjoy... These are fine weather stations and greatly expandable. If you want extra sensors a local source is via Froggit in Germany who will happily ship. Alternatively buy direct from the manufacture at www.ecowitt.com but will take longer as its shipping from China but always have the latest kit.
  23. If the two weather stations are made by the same manufacturer then you are in with a chance. If not then very unlikely as each company uses proprietary data transmission from the sensor that the station receives. The old station if not by the same manufacturer will likely not understand the new sensor and so will display nothing. Even then if the old station is very old then the new sensor may still not work with it if the data signal has been changed in anyway. Sorry not a great answer but hope it helps to avoid expectations that it will work when it quite probably wont.
  24. That low does look very deep for what is still summer and I wonder if its a direct correlation of all the energy thats stored within Europe. For light relief I share this remarkable summers temperature chart so far for my locale in Southern UK (sorry I know its not model related)
