Storms and Convective discussion - 1st August 2022 onwards
The4Seasons replied to Supacell's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
It's been start and stop all day lol. Your only up the road bud But what a great day of action. Nice to see and hear. We've not seen too much in the way of storms this year in the this area so making up for it I guess. Although it's beginning to show signs of colder weather and more settled in the long run I see in the mod thread -

A Very strange day here today. We started at 23.5c min temp then it rose to 29c by 11am. At midday it went gusty with sw winds then at 13.00pm rain and some scattered storms temp fell to 23c. Now at 16.44pm after the front the temp is back up to 30c and sunny in SE winds. (Following the first front). So it's hot behind it guys at least for a while. I guess the cooler air will follow later this evening. -

These storms are packing quite a punch if you get caught directly. We have just had a light covering of hail. Lots of lightning ?. -

I am surprised the red alert didn't get extended to a later time. Just had our highest gust here yet at 85mph. Blew the washing line over and some branches just snapped off the trees. It's actually much windier now than when the red alert was in place -

Winter 2021-22 Chat, Moans and ramps thread

I love it to be honest. Those sparkling frosty sunny mornings with even abit of fog beats endless windy, mild, grey, misty cloud and rain anyday. People need to be careful for what they wish for otherwise we might just end up with a bartlett high and dull mild grey fest then to be followed by a poor rainy cool summer. We all know the uk is not a snowy place. We live by one of the largest oceans and unfortunately that will always make it difficult to keep any cold or heat sustainable here for any lengthy period of time unless we get very lucky with all the perfect weather patterns in place. -

Alot of places are yet to see a snowflake or even a frost especially here in the south west. It has been a terrible winter so far. I can't even call this a winter tbh as it doesn't qualify to the standards to be called a winter. I can't wait until mid spring and summer arrives to get away from all this boring mild gloom fest. -

I will go with somewhere in Gwynedd or Aberdeen hitting above 19c due to the Foehn effect. Looks very possible at this current rate looking at the models. ? -

How about us doing a chase for the highest temperature record going in January 2022? The pattern will then probably reverse and we get our snow/cold ❄ . It seems like whatever we want we never get lol. -
A huge special thanks to you Michael Fish for all of the years service you have given us all. I have always enjoyed your forecasts since I was a young child and I will never forget all of those days gone by. So many memories they bring back. I want to wish you all the very best in your retirement, stay safe and have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. From Luke.

Well wouldn't this be a dream for us welsh snow lovers . ECM looking better tonight. The weather we get next week is really on a knife edge. Will it be cold or will it be mild? That all depends on the strength of the scandi block (in blue area) if it sets up and the position of the Azores HP (need it to stay flat tilted south east and slightly west as per arrow heading left) to deflect the Atlantic energy south east into continental Europe (as per arrow heading right). If there is too much Azores HP nearby to the south (just off Portugal) then the Atlantic energy will steam roll into the scandi block riding over a strong south west to westerly flow of winds which will push the scandi block back east. Its all to play for I say. Just watch this space with interest . I will be watching the positions of the noted airmasses above to conclude the direction I think the weather will go as to cold or milder in the outlook. Good luck with the snow potential tonight as per my previous post .
