  1. Thank you for that information Nouska......it made me wonder! I also take your point on the Arctic ice loss. I will take the time to read your links, they are much appreciated. Another grey humid day here in North West France......
  2. I am curious about the increase in thunderstorms and wonder about the Solar Miniumum effect. Apparently the Sun's hit a Solar Minimum and this has an effect on the heliosphere which weakens and in turn affects our weather thus possibly Increasing thunder storms which may be the case across Europe. Solar Minimum brings many interesting changes. For instance, as the extreme ultraviolet output of the sun decreases, the upper atmosphere of Earth cools and collapses. Also, the heliosphere shrinks, bringing interstellar space closer to Earth. Galactic cosmic rays penetrate the inner solar system with relative ease. Indeed, a cosmic ray surge is already under way. I am wondering if this has an effect on the weather in Europe at the moment. The above info is from bits and pieces gleaned on the internet.
  3. Yes.....it is incredible!!! Up to another 15cms forecast today. We had a dusting of snow last night.....current temps around 1C
  4. White for the last three mornings with a mix of hail and snow.......we are over 850 feet up. So waiting to see what this week brings on Wednesday and Thursday........ rain is so depressing. Speaking to family in South West Scotland and it would appear the weather has been very similar to here in North Western France .
  5. Hi Spike and Frozencanal........we had a couple of cold days with frost but since the days have been sunny but with a biting wind. Today it will be mild(11C forecast) and rain has returned (normal for this region as it is a maritime climate). Maybe the chance of snow at the end of the week again. I am looking forward to summer, I'm sure you will enjoy your life here in France Spikecollie.
  6. Rough night here in Brittany.......heavy rain and high winds leaving chaos in its path. Garden(field) looks as if a tornado passed through!!! Forecast saying we are possibly in for snow after next weekend. We shall see.
  7. Ah, thanks Catch......very well indeed. I am sure the weather in Scotland is seasonably cold at the moment, any sign of snow yet? Lovely day here.....5C with clear sunny skies. Hope You, Mrs Catch and the four little Catches have a great, healthy, happy New Year.
  8. Hi, I am a long term member of Netweather and used to live in the North of Scotland until three years ago. Now live in the North West of France where it is really wet in winter. Great to see a French thread on here.
  9. Hi Cheggers, http://france.meteofrance.com/france/meteo?PREVISIONS_PORTLET.path=previsions/20111018120000T just put in the post code for the area you are visiting. Or this link http://www.accuweather.com/en/fr/guingamp/142996/weather-forecast/142996 which gives you 25 day forecast, Again insert the nearest town . At the moment the weather looks mixed.......sunshine with occasional showers with average temps of 20/22C ......so could be warmer during the day hopefully. Hope this helps. Have a great holiday.
  10. We live in a little commune called Plougonver in Cotes d'Armor, pretty area in soft rolling countryside about 25 miles south of the coast. I love Quimper and the surrounding area, we are about 60 miles north east. I love the Breton culture and slow pace of life. The people also Celts, very similar to the Scots.. Bon appetit......enjoy your clams Weather still very close with the odd black cloud making its way north to the UK with its contents. Hmmmmmmm ............... its throwing it down again with rumbles in the distance!! PS. Nice little Bar/Bistro on the square does superb port in cider....
  11. Hi SS, Guessing you are on the coast and hopefully you are missing the heavy showers!!! I am in area 22 and we have had Torrential downpours and thunder this afternoon after a lovely warm sunny morning. I love the seafood..........langustines, scallops and mussels are fantastic and reasonably priced and some great wines to wash it all done. Try the local cider........very good indeed.. Enjoy your holiday.
  12. Hi, Catch, Thank you. Hope the family are all well. Yes indeed, loving life here.Working harder than ever in the garden and watching wildlife. Very rural and like going back 50 years in time.
  13. Hi Blitzen, thank you........how lovely to hear from you. Yes thoroughly enjoying life in France.....its back to nature growing our own veggies and fruit.. We saw a brief glimpse of snow one Saturday in Feb which lasted about two hours....and apart from three weeks of frosts during that month its been mild, but very wet at times. The Bretons insist the rain necessary for the Pastis!!! I dropped into the Kilted thread to keep an eye on the weather......I would have been gutted if you had a lot of snow and we hadnt. Here is hoping you get some sun and warmth this summer.
  14. Hi Mr Tattum...........LOLOLOLOLOL .I had forgotten about the Partridge family. A new name and promotion!. Well done.
  15. Hi folks, thought I would drop in and say hello. Aye, same problem here with veggies. We had some super weather which was warm and sunny, then it turned cool and damp and my purple sprouting started to bolt.....as did my lettuce. New lot planted and coming along nicely, if they dont drown first! Also had to cover everything everything with nets.......the partridges thought i was planting for their benefit!
