  1. Fair bit of snow here and looks like going to get a bit more before it turns to sleet. Unexpected 6 miles from the sea at low elevation this early in the season.
  2. It's Baltic in Lincolnshire but has been sunny today. Low of nearly -6 last night, got up to -2 shortly after lunch but back to -4. All trees and hedges covered in rime. Really pretty but has just colder day by day for the last week. I thought yesterday was going to be coldest but apparently not.
  3. No snow but cold definitely here now. Only dropped to 1C last night but only up to 2.6C at noon today and it has been bright all morning (couple of very light showers). Take that at the start of an at least week long cold spell. Very interesting times ahead and im hopeful we will get snow at some point. really want kids to be able to go on a Christmas lights walk when its snowing. Takes it all to another level in my humble opinion.
  4. Whist artic air doesn't arrive for a couple of days it's a bit milder here than I would like ( currently 7.5 degrees). Bit worried that highish SSTs will mean marginal conditions near the coast. However, I'm sure we will be seeing big shower clouds over the sea from late Weds onwards. Just hope there are some disturbances in the flow or an easterly component at some stage to get the showers to come inland. A good part of Lincolnshire doesnt stick out enough if there is a westerly element to the flow. The positive thing is that there have been a lot of heavy showers over the past couple of days (uppers not cold but flow has been off the sea) so with cold uppers and low thicknesses maybe it won't be particularly dry. Overall very interesting and quite hopeful
  5. Merry Christmas all. Dry, bright and fairly cold in Lincolnshire. At least dew point is sub zero and its not raining. I kind of worry that the pre Christmas meltdown of properly festive weather prospects might have been my fault. My weather station had been off line for about three months but on basis of models pulled out the stops to get it working again. Within 12 hours of me doing this all had gone t***s up. Sorry
  6. Not whether related and I'm not a Yorkie but what a day for one great man of Yorkshire. Third 100 in three tests and 100 in 100th test. Joe Root and absolute star
  7. As others have said there is so much doom and gloom particularly in the model thread. For Lincolnshire this is exciting. Have been here well over 40 years with also a few in brum as a student and when working for a while (where I never saw a flake). Late Sat to at least Thursday with real snow risk and ice is just great. How many years have had to be happy with 36 hour northerly that provides just about enough snow to slide a sledge. Many years when get absolutely nothing. In my time there have been about a handful of deep cold spells that lasted about a week or more. That said what we are in for is actually not that common. To me we are definately in for a proper cold spell and not a snap. Im excited and will enjoy (booked Tuesday off as stab at the day when likely to be both decent amount of falling and lying snow) as it might be years before get anything as good again.
  8. Yes thats them. Was Scunny Town I think the bowler was Dodda Ganesh. I was a no11 and did not survive long enough to get hit. We didn't win. Reasons to be cheerful though a likely snowy lincs and an India England test match on free to air telly. There will have been worse weeks during the last year. The wicket can wait a while. I really hope LincsTim's daughter gets her first real snow experience and it as magical as I remember from my childhood and with my own kids.
  9. Nice ground but didn't ever play there. Many games at some other not so pretty grounds in Scunny, used to play for Louth. Went for a ranger Job at Normanby Park years ago but didn't get it. Came with a house but I'm not bitter. Most memorable cricket moment in Scunny was when they had a quick who had played a few games for India. Hit one of our guys in the box. Was treated by his father who poored a bottle of water down his jock strap. Poor lad couldn't walk. How funny it is when it is not you. To make weather related, would look lovely with snow.
  10. Interesting times for Lincolnshire. Certainly looks like going to be our first proper taste of winter since Feb/March 2018. Not quite the beast but I think going to be at least a feral animal from Finland (sorry best I could come up with) and it does seem to be upgrading so never say never.
  11. Some lovely pictures on this thread. I'm green with envy. Still snow free here in East Lincolnshire, other than one flurry at Christmas and a dusting weds into Thurs. However, I'm optimistic for the next few weeks. So much so that made decision to replace my long dead cheapo Maplin weather station. Looked at some advice on here and got a reasonably priced one from weather spares. For what it cost is great. So thanks to those who posted advice. Only been running since Weds but although this spell has been poor snow wise has been cold (certainly since local records resumed). Average temperature of 0.5 °C and average dewpoint of 0.5°C. Technical bit now. The coldest day (yesterday when never above 1°C) has been the meltiest day (this is why I never post in mod thread). Very high humidity key. Heres hoping to see some of that snow, post some of my own pictures and produce some interesting graphs over the next few weeks.
  12. Happy and healthy new year to all. Very dodgy out and about here first thing. Have a properly non flat concrete path in back garden and a bit of rain on cold surface made it like an ice rink. Out with the dog at 08:00 and gnats whisker from being on my a**e. Hope that the uppers and dew points get a few degrees colder and that pesky North Sea keeps cooling so we might get the right side of marginal sometime over the next couple of weeks. Also hope you all get to see some snow at some point.
  13. Thank you very much. Hopefully will be a quiet couple of days. Works in theatres and pubs being shut and not a lot of travel might mean there are fewer emergencies than normal. Our snow shower was only light but at least it happened. Lots of showers yesterday but all rain or hail. Was there any lying snow on the wolds? Merry Christmas to you
  14. Merry Christmas to everyone. Have watched this forum for maybe 15 years but my met knowledge not up to posting. I want to thank you all for the information, analysis and banter. Hope this evolving situation delivers something for all of us over next few weeks. Thanks again and please keep up the entertainment
  15. Merry Christmas to all. Just had falling snow in Lincolnshire. 5 miles from the coast and at the vertigo inducing elevation of 30 feet AMSL. Child of the 70s and I think this only third Christmas with falling snow. Had one stonker growing up in Louth must have been late 70s or early 80s. Hope we all get something notable in the next couple of weeks. Off with the kids until 4th Jan so a chance before then. My wife working at Grimsby hospital this pm and tomorrow so best wishes to all the key workers. After that we have a week off together. Let it snow and not just off shore
  16. Been snowing moderately for quite a while now. Radar looks fairly well loaded as well. Just been out for a walk and is extremely cold in the wind. Hard to tell how much snow there has been as being blown off any exposed surfaces.
  17. Same in Lincs. Just stopped snowing and radar clear for a while. Definately the most snow here since early 2013 and may even top that. Really blowing around though. It is about -3 to -4 so bloody cold but not like at TEITS' house. That is just a bonkers temperature
  18. Snowing hard in Manby now. Blowing around quite a lot as well. Hard to tell about totals because getting blown off exposed surfaces. Probably 4 to 5 inches though with power to add. New snow on what was packed snow and ice at 9pm last night so some roads not going to be good. Not really sure why the Amber does not extend all the way up the Lincs coast given what it is like here and at the radar
  19. We had a really good thin but long shower here from about 3:30pm. Aligned perfectly for Manby and we had reasonably heavy snow for nearly an hour. About five other decent showers since lunchtime but was melting in the sun. After the last one have 2 to 3 inches where has been in the shade all day. Had a great snowball fight with kids so all fairly happy. Has somewhat restored my faith in the beast and hope decent prospect of more significant snow in the next 24 to 36 hours. Then see what the weekend brings
  20. First fairly heavy snow shower here (5 miles from Kings coast). Started at about 6 am ust as was going out with the dog. Very quickly a dusting to light covering. Snow blowing around straight away. Definitely no marginality today. Wow it is cold in that wind
  21. Next week is looking potentially extreme. Models strongly supporting the beast again this morning. I'm struffling to remember a met office online 10 day video forecast quite so bullish. For me I think I now have a couple of jobs for the weekend. First one is to go up in loft and duct tape a few holes and areas where the roofing fealt has slipped in our east facing roof. I am confident there will be snow at some stage , it will be dry and powdery and it will probably be driven under the tiles. Had a similar situation years ago at another house and was oblivious until water started coming through the ceiling. Had to clear lots of snow from the loft and ended up replacing quite a lot of insulation. Also I'm going to stock up on bird food as they are going to be struggling. I think this is something that people will remember for years. It will be pretty and fun for kids (of all ages) at times. I think there are going to be snow days (free days off school to play in a winter wonderland should be part of everyone's childhood). Particularly for those who rely on the antique Grayscrofts that do mamy of the school runs around here. These dont need adverse weather to have problems. However, I think that there will be problems. I'm telling people that this is not likely to be normal. If I end up looking a t*t so be it.
  22. Been snowing on and off for a good couple of hours. This is with a north westerly, polar maritime air, uppers cold at -7 or -8 but having passed over the north Atlantic. On Sunday to Monday we had a north easterly, uppers colder at -10 to -11 and air only having passed over the north sea from a cold Scandinavia but we only got rain and a bit of sleet/hail. I am really confused.
  23. Rain showers (a bit lumpy at times) so far at Manby (half way between Louth and the sea). Maybe more chance of snow tonight
