I’m at a complete loss as to how it’s going to rain on Tuesday. Potent northerly with at least -10 uppers. Low pressure system bumping into it and instead of turning to snow it’s keeps at rain. Just to cap it off Yorkshire disruptive snow, Lancashire rain unless you live up a big hill. Just unbelievable.
Mainly because you are low ground. You are only 10 minutes away from low lying Preston. An extra 150 -200 feet will make all the difference. As for Tuesday the Met have me down for snow from 6am till 15pm.

Hasn’t the GFS had terrible verification stats recently? Or perhaps I’m delusional and clutching at straws because I’d like some weather that actually represents the season we’re supposed to be ‘enjoying’
UKmet
GEM
GFS gets knocked for being a garbage model, but it’s the best at spotting trends. It was the first to show the breakdown to the up and coming cold spell, but it was knocked because it did not show what people wanted. Don’t forget it was the first model to show the epic 2010 Cold spell.
if the GFS in the next few days show heights showing to our North East, then I will be definitely taking notice.

Think I posted this a while back but I'd love even a quarter of this what they had in Athens a couple of years back. Skip to 6 minutes onwards, they had some insane amounts of snow.
That will be the North West, next week
will NOT be attempting to drive to work

I see many in the south are not enjoying tonight’s ECM. I think it’s fantastic for our area.. could be one or two surprises

As long as Newhey, Lancashire gets rain I'll be very happy!
It’s Greater Manchester, on the foothills of the Pennines. He could do very well out of this cold spell.

If its coming from South West, may be good for you guys but for Manc it'll be a non starter. Classic snow shadow this one
I’m only 14 miles North west of Manchester.. this set up in the 70s + 80s was magic for the North West

Just now, Catacol said:Pfft. This is getting ridiculous. Getting bored of all the constant north easterly charts and anti-zonal flow. I'm hankering after some good old fashioned +NAO and a mild south westerly feed. Someone please find me a chart that shows the Fine Folk of Good Ol' Blighty what the weather round here is really all about. This really sucks. Cross model consensus of continental cold and snow is just so 1980s.
Not.
I’m sure one or Two posters will try their best

Flood Alert now in-place for lower-lying areas in Whaley Bridge along the River Goyt with localised floods being reported in/around the High Peak from Bakewell to the A54. There was also a Earthquake recorded in Buxton at 17:30 measuring 2.5 at a 3km depth, although it wouldn't have been strong enough to have felt it here further north.

Whenever it gets cold enough for anything that falls to be snow then, as if by magic; the rain will stop, the clouds will part and the sun will come out
and then after a few coolish days with a bit of frost, the mild will win out without a snowy breakdown and the rain will be back again.
Oh yes.
Any precipitation when cold enough for Snow will mysteriously vanish from the North West.. the rest of the country enjoying Christmas card scenes whilst we have clear blue skies and unbroken sunshine..- 8
