In Absence of True Seasons I'll raise you from November 2022 till now bar a few very short lived spells of drier weather. If it hadn't been for 4 freeze ups of all the mud it would have been even worse! Longer days, wind and higher sun mean better drying out but there's barely a day without rain and the water table must be so high the slightest amount of rain returns us to square one. The models show that's it's more of the same unfortunately, by far and away the worst prolonged wet weather in my lifetime.

Lol. Anyone here remember a certain Ian Brown, early this century vintage? He sounded like a few on here, winter in the UK is finished etc. From memory something called the Gin corridor. Never going to see snow again.... Then along came 2009/10/11/13/18 etc. I suspect that in the next few years, when it's due, we will get another real wintery spell. The charts are hinting at an easterly flow in the not to distant future and we could get another snowfall which would be the 3rd here. Deepest snow I ever saw here was second half of March, 1977 I think. Trying to snow currently.

The Met long range forecast wording has improved today. Now mentions winds between north and east and mentions snow and ice mid Feb. Definite improvement on yesterdays wording.

I think the rain warning is mostly Cumbria, we're under the wind warning. They can have it, I've seen enough rain the last 14 months to last a lifetime.

Remember it well, went on for quite a few days, some times temp above freezing and sometimes below. Heavy snow showers and when temp dipped below freezing the snow drifted. Measured around 14" at it's deepest.

We're in the warning zone for tomorrow morning but the met office app forecast has me at <5% chance of precipitation which is basically zero!

Born in '63. Always remember reading text books about the lowland UK climate, long before the internet. One description stated that winters were mild with very occasional snowfall which rarely hung around for more than a few days. Love the snow and the majority of my winters were disappointing as snow sometimes briefly fell and rarely lasted more than a few days. Exceptions I remember, 77/79, 81/82, 87, 91, then a very poor period, a certain Ian Brown on here proclaiming winter snow was over etc. Then came 09/10, 13, 18 etc. We've had 3 ice days so far this winter, a couple of small snowfalls and a lowest temp of -7. Plenty winters past had no ice days. People have a tendency to look back with rose tinted glasses and describe past typical winter weather as something at odds with our actual climate.

Fast forward 4 days and it looks disappointing to what was on the cards. Fingers crossed it can equal the end November/beginning December cold spell at least.

Latest Met office longer range is suggesting possibly a more NE flow as time goes on during the potentially long, upcoming cold spell. In my experience this is the best direction for snow, 'lake effect' heavy snow showers coming in off the North Sea, beats frontal 'events' hands down. Snow tyres fitted to car and it's all eyes on Monday onwards.

Absolutely spot on. Some would do well to read up on actual climate of the UK. Some folks understanding of the UK winter has us on a par with Oslo or Moscow! We had a cold spell here end November into December with 3 ice days, a few inches of snow and a low of -7. I've lived through numerous winters where that was never seen no matter how rose tinted the glasses. We've had the winters of 2009/2010, the March you mention above but our last memorable spell was February/March 2018 with intense snow and cold. Extreme for the time of year to say the least. If we got that every winter we'd have a different climate! Photo is from March 4th 2018, 60m asl.

Just our climate! In my experience more Decembers will have had temperatures of 12-14 than haven't, certainly over my 60 yrs! Unless you have had significantly higher at your location last couple of days? Balances out the couple of ice days we had at the beginning. That was probably more extreme as most winters I'd imagine don't have ice days. For me, an extreme winter temp would be 16+ at this time. Or the late February '19 temp of 21 and sunny! Once in a lifetime stuff))

I don't have figures but in my little part of the world 2023 is the wettest I've known. It's incessant at times. The very wet weather started about 12 months ago and apart from very brief breaks has continued. A horrible summer, very wet, cloudy and cool was followed by a very wet autumn. I'm amazed we've had 5 frosts already.

Been the opposite here across the pennines, yet another vile day. Monsoonal rain and standing water. Very grey day. Quite worrying given it's still October as we've had a very wet year but as ever things will even out, hopefully!

Currently 1c and just had our 4th frost of October which I presume is more than normal. Hopefully we can reach double figures in today's sunshine as last few days have been cold, mid afternoon on Friday in the deluge was 6c.

Yet again we miss out, managed 19 yesterday but windy and a lot of cloud about. Today its grey and damp and temp has just about struggled to 14!!

Unfortunately there will always be these types of people, ignore them. I've spoken to a lot of folk today and everyone is devastated at what has happened. Real folk, not keyboard warriors.

Even worse here, a week of sunshine in June and vast majority of July, August and September cold and very wet. Worst summer I can remember.

Currently 22 but grey skies with any sun very hazy. Much better than most of the summer.

Climate here is the same as it's always been. We had a week of sunshine in June with mid 20's which is warm but not unusual. This was after a cold cloudy May. July and August were abysmal, cold and very wet almost continuously . Today was nice, 27 and sunny but long long overdue.

This chart sums up our climate, never mind weather! 99% of the time it's colder than anywhere else, I'm under the 17c.

That's tropical! Hit 16 here and no rain!! Mostly cloudy but hopefully the start of a dry spell.

Yesterday evening at 7pm popped out into the garden hoping to sit with a cuppa, twas freezing! Checked temp, 13c. The sun had actually poked out too. Can't remember it being so cold in August. Would love to report an improvement today but after reaching the heady heights of 15c the monsoonal downpours started at about noon and are still going strong. Another atrocious day.

If the deluges currently over the borders make their way down here later on, my August rating is going to -1/10. Just back from walking dogs and the paths/fields are absolutely sodden after yesterdays torrential downpours. Too muddy/wet for boots and it's welly days again. Fingers crossed it dries up during September and October before winter starts!

Another absolutely foul day here. Torrential rain showers and 14-16c. Farmer out front has given up turning over the fields as the soil is water logging in places. The only positive I can think of to this summer is it would be impossible to see one as wet/cold/cloudy again.
