I'm not sure there is much of a scientific consensus as to "why" viruses are seasonal, just that many clearly are, and some are probably not.

There are so many different variables at play, and that these may then differ from virus to virus, that it becomes impossible to say for any new virus that it will struggle come summer. It will be a case of crossing our fingers and then we will see what we see.

Ever wonder why does the flu spread in the winter? Shouldn't the freezing cold temperature kill the germs? Can heat do the job instead?

This is becoming like one of my nightmares - loads of articles from vets now mentioning companion animals. I would simply shut myself away and wait it out if there was a real and present threat here to Mylo and I. We've enough of a garden to get exercise in. I would never knowingly let anything hurt my beloved, innocent lad and that includes his Mummy Bear getting too sick to look after him.

Viruses need to attach to cells to infect them, and they do this by binding to specific receptors on the cell. If a virus can’t attach, it can’t infect.

Could it be the Chinese human make up makes them more prone than other races?  We have all heard of the supposed positives of a Mediterranean diet for lower heart disease.

Time will tell if are all basically in the same pot or not.

It remains puzzling why China has been hit so hard. Because a big pool of cases built up before they did anything much?  Or what?

rain setting in here in Mytholmroyd as the Army begin dropping of sand bags and plugging any holes in the flood wall they find....... this is not a good feeling being a mere few metres from all the action you'll no doubt be watching on the news later

Stay safe folks and do not enter flood waters!!!

you never know what it is contaminated with and what is lurking in the murky waters (Grids/culverts with missing ironwear etc?)

    Seconded!
