  1. I think it’s the case, that it doesn’t need to be much below average in winter, for the weather to affect people. You will get many on here who find once the temps drop to 13-14c, it will already be difficult to cope with. Many like myself, turn to the heating as soon as the daytime high goes south of 16c, and even if I get used to it come December, I still find myself having the heating on, due to the damp conditions. Once we drop to mid single digits(5-7c), I think this is where it becomes legitimately cold enough for hats abs gloves. Add on the wind and it all feels that much colder. Like how people on this forum struggle so much with temps of 24c, which for me is only scratching the surface, as it’s only pleasantly warm. We all have varying degrees of tolerance. My co worker has been texting me just how horrible the heat is in London. I said to him, in a friendly manner, ‘you will have 6-7 months of damp and cool weather and days below 20c. When I said I felt cold back in January to April, he was all ‘it’s not cold mate, this is lovely’ but couldn’t really understand why I felt uncomfortable. Now the shoes on the other foot, he’s moaning and can’t hack it lol. I have a heat hater in my office. He’s a nice bloke, but he just needs to man up a bit.
  2. I don’t wear jeans much anymore. I find a happy medium is denim joggers, winter and spring ones. Also wear slacks in summer.
  3. I never feel fully comfortable in shorts, so it’s only when it’s really hot, I will wear them.
  4. I used to be like that until I was in my early 20s. I never wore shorts either when it was even 25-32c, and always wore jeans. The reverse is seeing people wearing only a t shirt when it’s 13-15c in autumn or early winter. It’s mild, but it’s never warm enough for me personally to feel comfortable in a t shirt. Those sorts of temps are positively freezing for me once we hit late March/early April, or any other time until late October.
  5. This is the thing isn’t it. It’s a two way attitude towards understanding both sides. People who don’t like hot weather have had a better deal this summer. The hot weather for U.K. has been in very short supply, if you take away this week, the 3 weeks in June, and a handful of days in August.
  6. U.K. winters are usually poor for snow lovers, but that still doesn’t mean it won’t be cold at times.
  7. If I had a Time Machine, I would transport myself to next April. Winter is a season I can do without, while I remain in the U.K.
  8. I think we’ve had cold winters following warm Septembers before. 2009 and 10 were warmish, and those winters were cold, or chilly. September 80 was a warm month, winter followed was snowless in the south. September 82 was warm, following winter had a cold February with some snow. September 85 was warm and sunny, winter that followed was cold. September 1991 was warm, mild winter followed that. September 95 was warm, and a cold winter followed. September 97 and 98 were both warm, and followed by mild winters. Just using some examples from the 80s and 90s, and it looks to me that a warm September doesn’t nail down a mild winter for certain.
  9. It isn’t as warm as I would like, but I think the 27c is coming back. I think next year we will bite the bullet and just do July and August in the Med, even if it ends up being 35-40c, because it’s guaranteed no cloud. The one issue I have with that is it’s too hot to sleep, and the air con is risky. I was unwell one year after using air con during a Med holiday in 2008. It was 39c outside and I switched the air con on overnight, woke up with the sore throat. So even though it’s really warm at night here, we don’t use air con.
  10. I’ll sacrifice a cold frosty chrimbo for a better chance of snow in January. 1987 and February 1991 just can’t be beaten.
  11. Not where we are, but we had storms on Monday morning. It’s been dull and very windy ever since with daytime highs around 22-24c. Not perfect, after what was a very hot day on Sunday with 30-31c. Nights have been warm though, but you don’t feel it by the sea 22-23c at night. We’ve seen the really bad floods on the Greek news. Places further west of us in a region called Kampa? Have been severely flooded. One of the islands has been flooded also. It’s come off the back of a number of dry hot weeks, and the low that affected Italy is also causing problems this way. The sunshine and hot weather comes back tomorrow, but it’s fairly dry between the intermittent showers. September is a tricky month for the med, as it has the best conditions for swimming after months of hot weather, but it’s also a time when storms can move in with the gradual drop of temps into the high 20s, from mid to high 30s in August. June is another one, but it’s also a gamble between it being unsettled, and it can be very hot here. Anyway, the food is good, and we are safe I’m down under the right hand side cloudy blob. Thanks to Danny boy.
  12. Ok, you’re on. Mild dry and cloudy Christmas period, followed by a colder period from New Year’s Eve, with temps around 5-7c. But, dropping to 0c or -2c during the daytime by the 5th January. Staying cold or very cold until the 25th, with mostly clear blue skies, biting north east winds at times making it feel like -7 to -9c at times. 2-3 days of falling snow. No mild blip until the 26th, with temps no higher than 7-9c until the close of the month.
  13. That’s where I see the very cold conditions coming in this time. But, I are you willing to take a mild Christmas as a result? Dry mild chrimbo around 12-13c, followed by a cold start to the new year, with crisp clear skies. Bitterly cold for a few weeks after, with a few days of heavy snow.
  14. We had the coldest February night back in 2021, for a good many decades. I think cold records tend to be swept under the carpet. They might very well be in the minority compared to heat records, but they still happen. Last December had some very bitterly cold daytime highs. Didn’t climb over 0c for several days during that cold spell. A Granted, the last time January was severe was probably 2013, or even 2010. But, we still get the cold.
  15. I think the winter will be colder this time , jokes aside. But, I feel the mild weather will be a dominant feature from late October, and lingering until Christmas time. No snow around Chrimbo, but the cold and snowy potential will be better into the new year and mid January. Think this will be coldest period for the season, and possibly a below average month. February will be a month of two halves, with a very cold start, but a mild dry and sunny second half. Not a repeat of 2019, but something similar to 2021, and the first daytime highs of 15-17c will start appearing.
  16. Yeah it was difficult, but in the poorest of summers we usually get some finer spells. It was just frustrating at times. Take care mate.
  17. Road men and road women also stink of terrible body odour. That sweaty trainer smell. They get a bit stinky from sweating in their hoodies and jackets. Eurgh!
  18. Nobody will know for sure. It’s too far away at the moment. For me, I usually find November is a good period of gaging what might transpire between December and February. That said, it’s usually mid December when I feel a pattern usually sets in to either mild or cold, and remains so( with a few interludes) until winter is out.
  19. Yeah I agree with most of what you say. I don’t remember 1975 personally, but my family said it was hot. They just remember it after many years of cooler summers.
  20. April 1981 was like that after the winter of 80/81 had now snow in the south.
  21. When were you a kid? Just curious. If you grew up between 1960 and 1986, I can see how this summer would be seen as acceptable. Or maybe I should say before 1975, as there were very few hot summers before that year and 32c wasn’t a regular thing. For me it was poor, because I remember always liking warm sunny summers as a child of the 80s. I never enjoyed the chilly summers of 85 and 86. Always felt cold when we were holidaying in the U.K. during those years, but 83, 84 and 89 along with 90, were proper summers in my mind. I’m glad I wasn’t alive during the 60s. The summers look awful even compared to the 80s. You sound like Hector from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul
  22. Sounds like September is fast becoming the daddy month of the year for warm sunny weather. June might be ousted to second place, while July and August are definitely the biatches.
  23. Come down to Greece mate. We have just been swimming in the sea, and it’s raining on and off. Sea is very warm, but it’s only 22c here. We were laughing at all the young families who were just staring at the beach afraid to go into the sea. Mostly young families in their 30s, and from places like Poland, Italy and Germany. I thought these people were tough? Jokes aside, it’s all good. Sun has come back out. I kind of wish I didn’t miss the hot sunny weather in London, but if it’s a toss up between a beach in Greece or a sweaty central line tube, I know we made the right choice To be fair, I think you had a better deal this summer, and this week is something that most were missing in July and August. It doesn’t need to be 29-32c, but high summer was missing lots of 23-25c days with sunshine. Stay cool and stay hydrated
  24. Yes, but the tone of the shows were different. You see lots of shows post 2000 and they just have a more polished feel to them. Bleak U.K. shows still exist though.
