Ill beg to differ! Take a look at the archive it goes back to the year 2002, it may take you a few hours to do.
Is it not run by volunteers ? Maybe there is no one available to do a forecast.

Somerset radio has said rain with a risk of thunder.which to me sounds about right.saying there is a risk.

I don't normally like to criticise the Met Office but i feel I have to. If they are warning about flooding from rain then it should be a rain warning and not a thunderstorm warning. A thunderstorm contains lightning. There was no lightning anywhere on Wednesday and so far no lightning within the warning area today. The wording used in yesterday's video forecast was "intense thunderstorms". There is no chance of intense thunderstorms today.
I think they relying on the atmosphere to play ball,I've seen 3 forecasts saying about Thunderstorms.I think it's beginning to be harder to forecast Thunderstorms. The possibility is there but mother nature having none of it had a few showers here in Taunton but very light drizzle and one or 2 shower's that dampen the ground but nothing noteworthy.

I've learnt to now live with not expecting storms,Too many disappointments in the past.It a case the forecast is showing a possibility but it's a very low possibility.if it happens it's a a bonus if not it like oh well the possibility was lol.
Best way is to expect nothing and if you do get something you will then be pleasantly surprised.

I think it’s because there is some perception that heatwaves always used to go out with a bang.
At a rudimentary level, you would think cooler air coming in from the west would undercut the hot air and force it upwards into explosive convection - but obviously there are a myriad of complex factors that also contribute.
Could also be confirmation bias but I don’t remember many hot spells just ‘ending’ the way they have over the past 5-6 years.
I think we have to except things have changed since how it used to be.I know we don't get the storms like we used and I've learnt to accept it.Just don't expect storms after the heat as it once was. That way you won't be disappointed and if you get one be pleasantly surprised.

I don’t recall seeing anywhere that’s forecasted severe storms to break out? Have I missed something? Seems to be much disappointment on here for an event that wasn’t really forecast? I think they all went with possible thundery outbreaks as the cold front moves in, that’s pretty much what’s happened? I’m in the southwest and the heatwave hasn’t ended, the front passed through earlier with a little rain and convection but after that skies are clear and it’s 29 degrees.
I agree I didn't see much in the way of Storm's forecast.was a low risk of anything.im in Somerset and the same 30°© this morning at around 10 am.Front past with little rain and we still around 27 now.

Noted the chat on what schools might do with this heat. My daughters secondary school up here in Shropshire where it’s not predicted to be highest already today sent an email out today informing kids to come in PE kit all this week. Pretty strict on uniform normally.
Sensible
PE kits are fine but you still need to protect the skin from the sun.
