  1. I photographed that one from Harlow, Essex, it went East of me. Amazing structure.
  2. At this late stage I never look at the models and predictions; it's pointless really. Far more fun to watch the sat/radar/sferics and have camera gear at the ready. Just hope my camera doesn't pack up like it did the last time (turned out I'd spilt a strand of tobacco in the memory card slot! :D )
  3. Estofex have put the South coast under a Level 1 for severe weather tomorrow night: European Storm Forecast Experiment - ESTOFEX WWW.ESTOFEX.ORG
  4. One tower has just shot up on satellite south of London. Heavy rain in a very localised area on radar, making a beeline straight for me in Hailsham :)
  5. I remember '82 well enough, I lived in Cheshunt at the time. It quite literally got as dark as night. I was terrified. It's a funny thing but my Nan lived in a caravan park in Wootton Bassett back then too :D
  6. Rain from the big mushroom just started here in Hailsham, E Sussex. Radar looks like it will be hammering down here shortly.
  7. Well I don't know about younger people here but I still prefer to use fahrenheit. I don't know how it is now as I don't have a tv, but the BBC always used both Celsius and fahrenheit when I was a kid.
  8. My 20yr old Nokia 3310 (refurbished and looking gorgeous) says "what's an app?" :D Someone handed me a "smart" phone once to make a call and I just had to hand it back, couldn't work the thing. I just watch the radar, sat and lightning on my big old pc screen and then head out when it starts to look promising. I like to leave Irfanview running while I'm out capturing screenshots every 30 secs so I can make a lightning timelapse afterward, but more often than not the storms cut the power.
  9. Will be heading to Pevensey Bay as per usual, with my old D90, Sigma 17-70 with chipped glass, and my now dodgy and blurred left eye, should be fun.
  10. Was sat on the beach at Pevensey from 10pm til midnight, watching distant lightning on the French coast. Had to leave eventually as my friend needed the loo and the buggers had padlocked the disabled facilities! Noticed it had started crossing the Channel by the time we got home.
  11. ESTOFEX have issued a Level 2 warning for Thursday for Southern England / South Wales: https://www.estofex.org/
  12. I hope we get some videos from above these storms uploaded.
  13. Blowing virtual raspberries at ya! Just 5 years ago I'd have jumped on my mountain bike and pedalled it down there, not so fit now unfortunately.
  14. Watching the lightning from the back garden in Hailsham. Will be bu**ered if I'm going out again today after the fun and games at the Co-Op. Got so angry my left eye actually drifted out of alignment before snapping back in place...that's a new one. Anyway back on topic...hoping we catch something decent tomorrow, even rain alone will be welcomed at this stage.
  15. Well, with luck we will, even if it's just a Kent Clipper. Hoping for more cells to bubble up to the West of that.
  16. Does this mean I have to go without my beer tonight and pour it in the Channel? Hmm, it's a tough one...
  17. Way too hot for me. I'll be down to Pevensey though this evening if a light show is in order.
  18. As always, from my location 8 miles from the coast, I'll be looking to France for my action. We tend not to get "home-grown" here; they always start just a few miles North and then head Northwards.
  19. Been watching that clinging to the French coast for hours. Think it's finally broken its moorings and gradually pulling out into the Channel. Might be worth a journey to the beach even it's for a distant light show.
  20. Just spent an hour sat on the beach at Pevensey and watched the lightning out in the Channel. Lovely red moon to go with the pink lightning. A few distant booms. Looks like it's fizzling now.
  21. Latest GFS looking good for the SE corner overnight tonight:
