Eagle Eye If it helps at all: I use a 28mm lens, ISO400, f8-f11, 10s exposures if it's a busy storm. Then I stack the exposures during post-processing.

@sunnijim Thank you for the recommendation. One of the problems with travelling outside my normal radius is having no idea where the best viewpoints are. Thats why I tend to like the coast, as you can't fail to get at least a 180 view from there
@Tamsin Indeed it ended up being much more widespread and spreading much further north than I anticipated. I think only the UKV model broke out widespread convection like what happened, but on an earlier run that was then replaced with a Kent clipper . The storm I saw is very likely the same storm that passed over you. It was fantastic for number of flashes and constant thunder.
@Flash bang flash bang etc Your account sounds similar to mine, with the exception of being blasted by rain and wind. I too was unable to see much at the back end of the storm, although that was mainly because I had soaked trousers and trainers so had to spend sometime getting changed . As you say, storms then erupted further north and out of reach.
Regarding a tornado in Littlehampton. The storms looked to be elevated and so I think a tornado is unlikely. I'm no expert but it was much more likely damage from straight line winds. Some of the gusts were quite ferocious as the storm came over.
When the straight line wind hits...time to take cover. Came in very strong at Seaford last night and put an end to any photography, we just made it to the car before the lashing rain hit. My friend couldn't drive for the first few minutes and cars were pulling over.

I’ll be moving into Lincoln uni this Saturday so I guess it’ll be worth bringing the cameras along, might get some weird looks but I’ll have to learn not to care what others think.
Sad isn't it? Everybody walks around with a camera in their pocket these days (well, maybe not me, I don't own a "smart" phone), but the moment you pull out a proper camera, everybody stares (mostly with suspicion).

Two strikes at Selsey just showed up on Blitzortung, then vanished again. (they might be back, that often happens.)

June 1994 was when I took my first ever lightning pic.
This was looking East from Wormley, Herts: (When I can find the neg I'll be able to restore this)

That was a classic. Supercell wasn’t it?
I was in a field with my mate drinking vodka. It got dark and I remember the first flickers appearing to the far south/south west.
Ended up coming right overhead with strobe lightning and when the cloud lit up you could clearly see striations all the way down like a Mr Whippy Ice cream.
Being very drunk by this point meant I didn’t take any precautions (silly I know) and just stood out in the open field underneath it. It also sadly meant I was too drunk to work my camera!
Takes me back to the late 80's - early '90s when we'd all sit out in a field at night, drinking cheap cider and watching some spectacular storms. This was in Herts, I seem to remember quite a few storms coming in from the NE around that period of time.

I have seen some models on and off hinting at the potential for some convective rainfall to spread up from France across the south. I think the chances are very low, but more than happy to keep my fingers crossed
Well, I got my little storm trundling over the Channel after all :) First noticed it just on the French coast and went out to meet it at Pevensey Bay.
Nothing too spectacular, but first one this year.- 3

Some fairly close strikes this morning here in Hailsham. Thunder gave me a start as it's the time of year when I generally stop checking the radar for storms.
