    That strengthening late February sun will decide snow depths from showers ... the difference between places that received sunlight and those that didn't is stark. Need more cloud cover for you snow fans

    CAMBRIDGE SURBURBS UPDATE: -1C - Icicle formation!!! In the most sheltered spots like back gardens, no sign of melt .... nearly 1 inch snow depth. Sun kissed road verges and banks .... all snow gone, feels lovely in sun there (bar the wind) In most sheltered spots - Trees and cars have kept snow cover all day and also insulated roofs have a white covering

    There is still time for the low to correct south ... I have no idea whats going to happen. GFS was keen on bringing the low further north than others due to the fact they had a deeper low pressure forecast I think. GFS does not forecast lows hitting proper cold pools as well though I hear

    There is something forming off SW coast of Norway at the moment (a potential trough?) heading SW....might include you on southern edge.....things can change later on. But yes, I know what you mean

    Second Heavy snow shower has hit Cambridge now. 0C .... juicy big flakes Slight drip drip from last cover, Snow melted from areas the sun shone on for long periods this morning, but stayed elsewhere Showers at the moment seem to dissipate west of Cambridge/Peterborough line...but hopefully this changes later into tonight

    Edit, rapid clearing of skies, so its moderately snowing with beautifully clear blue sky ..... end of the shower, pleasant surprise seeing a cover of snow If relatively sheltered Cambridge can get bulky showers....keep praying Bedford

    Why is the Ely/Cambridge/Bedford area bypassed by streamers on both sides....is it due to the lack of draw for the convective showers to form from the east......(i.e. theres not much sea compared to further north.....)...or is it just that the rump of East Anglia is not good for shower penetration?

    Shwmae Bawb!? Im one of the many Welsh young somethings living in England (as Wales seems to have ff all investment in jobs ) Anyway .... cold in Cambridge "Caergrawnt" now ... -2C and dropping steadily. Dew points -8C Cold air hit about 4-6pm ... much colder to come later in the week Fingers crossed / Croesi'r bysedd ... for you all to see some snow. Hwyl am nawr / So long for now <3

    I saw the buoy stations off Norfolk fall to 0C around 4pm ... knew it was coming then .... -1C in Cambridge :)....10m asl

    http://www.raintoday.co.uk - Is another radar, but nowcast radars cost money to view. The first tiny showers are some miles off Aberdeen.......some small snow showers have left the Nederlands and are tracking this way. Interesting to see them bulk up a bit. What factors determine that in these set ups?

    I have a feeling Ely to Cambridge to Bedford (Royston incl - although altitude always helps that area) is going to be quite sheltered comparatively in the region - snow depths at least. However, we have a very cold air mass hitting not so cold seas and the solar power is greater in late february.......so Im hoping showers are bulkier and meatier than normal (scientific terminology I know )

    The first vanguards of the cold have washed over us in Cambridge. Starting about Five pm, I felt a change to a colder origin air Temperature fell quickly from 3 to 0C here. Dew point -8C

    Cold air undercutting the rain band......cold air moves quicker than the warm front......so while many more northern parts didnt get snow...the cold air did catch up in time for SE England to see snow.,...coupled with night-time temps thats helped too

    Bedfordshire seeing lots of rain and only a bit of snow was due to the cold airmass not reaching you until very late. Cold air moves quicker than warm air, so the cold air is undercutting/catching up with the rain band in places like Kent etc, plus a bit of help from it being later in the day too ofc

    "Too wet to settle" is a myth as long as air temps are low enough (or something)...I forget what!

    #Canterbury# still raining but temp dropping, can see it turning 'soon'....saw snow (wintry showers/sleet) falling in Ashford. Being a more northerly wind may be dragging some warmer air off the sea onto the North Kent coast. Thoughts?
