  1. Day 10 I was a regular at the Aintree GN meeting, but stopped going a while ago. Far too many people there not there for the racing, too many queues for the toilets, food & drink, and trying to put a bet on. I believe it's approx £7.50 for a pint of Guinness..........was the same for Cheltenham in March.
  2. 1995 for me. Although the early part was pretty rubbish, there was snow on the last Friday in January; and both February & March were un-remarkable. The early May B/H weekend was glorious, as was most of the summer, especially August. December had cold weather with frosts, and even some snow.
  3. Funnily enough I remember both days (20th March, 5th April); I was on work experience for 2 weeks in Mott McDonald's in Liverpool. And then on a school trip to BAe, in Broughton - I recall the snow on the latter day, and the larger workshops/ hangars were freezing.
  4. SollyOlly Yeah; when we actually get any cold weather, it's usually sunny, with clear blue skies and rather pleasant; and quite nice to be outside walking/cycling. Sadly, most of the winter is grey, grim wet & windy......mid November to March can be depressingly grim.
  5. I prefer cycling in cold, dry but sunny conditions......as opposed to supposedly 'mild', when it's wet & windy.......utterly miserable conditions.
  6. A glorious late winter's day; dry, blue skies - a day to get the bike out later and make the most of it. If only more of our days in winter were like this........
  7. Ah, the annual dilemma in mid February; looking forward to Spring, but feeling 'short changed' as Winter hasn't delivered......
  8. Yes, it was a rather short lived event; I was out on a night out later that Friday night, and nearly all the snow had gone - you'd never have guessed what had happened in the afternoon.
  9. Like most snowfalls of the last 10 years - by lunchtime/ early afternoon, it's more or less all disappeared........
  10. I remember 1979 but only just. By 1987 I had a paper round in the morning, and evening......and it was proper cold. Whilst the winter of 1994/95 was generally mild, I remember a Friday in late January when it started snowing around lunch time, and carried on for most of the afternoon; I was working in Wigan at the time, and it would normally take 15 mins to get to the M58 - that day it took 2 hours. I recall cold spells in 1996, 1997, but since then only 2010 & 2013 had significant cold/snowfalls.......
  11. Yes, the last 10-15 years have been pretty bleak for snow in this area, and if it does fall it's usually been the lightest of dustings. Never used to be like that......
  12. If only more of winter was like it is today; frosty, cold, but with sun, and blue skies. Days which are usable.......
