Not heard thunder quite like this before, best way to describe it is like someone banging a massive drum

Woken up to a pretty active storm here this morning. Now I haven’t been checking the forecast as much as I normally would over the last few days, but I don’t really remember storms being mentioned for today.
Not complaining though, the thunder sounds great!

At friends’ in N Kent - just saw huge flash verified by blitzortung - bit surprised given how cold it feels and unimpressive returns on radar…but was a definite lightning flash nevertheless
Possibly the same strike that woke up most of Southend…
I heard it too, and the rumble must have continued for at least a minute!

Probably been the best storm this week in terms of overhead activity for my location
-
Storm has arrived here, and there’s a lot more thunder than I was expecting.
Pretty close strike just occurred will I was typing this. Been a good week so far

Had a short torrential shower and loud clap of thunder just as I was leaving work in Southend at just after 14:00, didn’t last very long, but was enough to make driving more difficult

Ordinarily in this situation I’d be excited as it looks like I’ve got a decent chance of seeing something again tonight.
Unfortunately I’ve just started a new job which requires me to be up at 5am, meaning I can’t sit up enjoy and night time storms anymore, unless they happen on a weekend.
Still, I hope everyone else who is able to enjoys their night

For my location, the word ‘underwhelming’ comes to mind. Though it does at least look as though we’ve had a decent drop of rain

Just woken up by thunder from the storm East of London, looks like it will pass to my West through Thurrock/Basildon
-
Can feel my pre storm headache coming on, that’s generally a pretty good sign

Been dark clouds around to the North, West and South for most of the day, but still not even had so much as a drop here.
Meanwhile Chelmsford, about 10 miles away is flooding
-
Everything so far today has formed just the wrong side of my location and as such has left me looking longingly out the window as it moves away.
Still plenty of hours left in the day though, so everything crossed for later this afternoon/evening

Been pretty quiet here so far today, had some much needed rain though
-
Thunder very loud now, got some light rain too but I think the heaviest is falling pointlessly into the Thames
-
Just heard thunder, cells popping up all over the place now, nothing overhead yet though. We need some rain!!!
-
Looks like things are getting going around here too, and the radar supports that, with small cells to the North and South

The storm I was watching seemed to die as quick as it formed
-
Seeing lightning now from a new storm over Thurrock.
Also a very strong smell of smoke in the air which I presume is blowing down from the Dagenham fire

what a surprise, despite SE not even being in the warning area they somehow get the storms again.......
I am actually in the warning area, but still wasn’t expecting anything as everyone seemed to think that the sweet spot was up your way!

Had a heavy shower pop up here pretty much out of nowhere, which has provided a couple of good rumbles.
Bit of a bonus, as I wasn’t really expecting anything today, but clearly the ingredients are there.

Next shower is approaching from the SW and sounds like it’s electrified!

Can see the Herts storm from here. Too far away to see any lightning, but the cloud looks cool against what’s left of the daylight
