So we could see 15 foot waves in Bexhill early hours, scarry.
I very much doubt that, not even close and I think an earlier post mentioning wind gusts of 125mph were well over the top as well.
That said, the winds are certainly picking up here now in East Sussex and forecast to peak around 6-9am based on current forecasts.

I rarely visit this site these days but thought I'd pop in and say hello, hope you're all well. I think there's a chance things may get interesting here in East Sussex/ Kent in the next few hours but the wait is all part of the fun.

That line of showers along the South Coast is producing some torrential rain here in Hastings/ St Leonards on Sea currently.
I've been watching FlightRadar and several Gatwick bound flights have turned around and have been circling out over The Channel which is quite unusual. All seems to be quitening down now though.

Well that was a decent thunderstorm here in St Leonards on Sea for around an hour and some pretty hefty downpours during and after. It's been a long wait but I was quite happy with that little show.

After what's been a warm and sunny afternoon here in St Leonards on Sea the rain has just arrived but doing nothing to supress the muggy feeling. Currently 20.6c after a max of 25.4c earlier. Some thundery activity would be most welcome but seems unlikely this 'far west'. I'm not giving up hope though.

Thankyou. Dedication mixed with a bit of craziness . I'm not a forecaster but it took me by surprise. I was thinking somewhere like Hastings up to Colchester and then probably Lowestoft
You did well to give that a swerve mate. I live here in Hastings/St Leonards on Sea and we've had absolutely zilch apart from a few drops of rain I could count on one hand. I'm not giving up hope yet though

Starting to clear up over here at Battle, with just very light rain.
I've still got a bit of hope left as the Met Office says that heavy rain will build in the English Channel around 9/10 am and will push to East Kent.
Looking forward to browsing social media the next few days - It'll be interesting to see what others saw!
I'm about 3 miles south of Battle here in St Leonards on Sea and so far we've literally had so few spots of rain I could almost count them. I'm not giving up hope yet though.

Sitting up in Bexhill regretting the decision not to sleep, what looked oh so promising now looks like a nothing for us tonight. I. Must. Learn. To.drive
I think it's too early to write it off yet tbh. Most of the forecasts I've seen were suggesting it would be about 5-6am before anything reached us here. Hang in there EM

I think this could be a long night for some of us on the South Coast. My sleep patterns have been all over the place for the last week or so I don't know whether to try and grab a few hours kip now or wait it out until the morning. Good luck all.

Well it's been a long wait but worth it for the thunderstorm we had here in Hastings/St Leonards on Sea around 9pm on Saturday. Frequent lightning, near constant rumbling thunder and at times torrential rain.

Am I the only person sitting in the garden at this unearthly hour hoping the storms will reach us here on the South Coast ?

How are things looking for us in the South east
I'm really not that confident now to be honest. Fingers firmly crossed though.

I don't to want mix conspiracy with the atmosphere, but the undoing of storms over channel ,the dying out and the rentensifacation north of London, the topsy-turvy way it all unfolded ,remember the platinum celebrations, I see no rain in Windsor, if Israel can seed Iran, Chinese can do their celebrations by doing it why not for our Queen...only a thought ....
It's been a long time since I ventured here on this forum, but having read this word salad I won't be back any time soon.

If nothing else at least we're getting some much needed rain here in the South East

IMO the red warning should have been extended but it’s now too late and many people are going to be making journeys they shouldn’t .
Unfortunately in my experience far too many people aren't even aware of the warnings, and those that are either don't have a clue what they mean or just ignore them anyway.

Hi guys. My mum is looking for a weather station for my Dad for Christmas. She has found on Amazon for £45. I was wondering if anyone might have any recommendations for reasonably priced ones that have wind/ rain functionality as well that can also have their data shared as a weather station on Weather Underground - a neat trick my my Dad would love!! Cheers, John
Hi John. What a great idea for a Christmas present but if I'm honest I think your Mum is going to struggle to find one with those functions at that price to be honest. Do you have a link to the one she is looking at please ?
I've just had a very quick look on Amazon for something that might fit the bill but it's quite a bit more expensive although still pretty good value at £124.99. I will try and post a link later.

I've not posted in a long time but can relate to some of the earlier posts about this seemingly never ending spell of overcast skies, frequent rain and dismal lack of any real sunshine so far this year.
Perhaps my memory is fading in old age but to me this seems like one of the wettest and sunless starts to the year here in this corner of the South East for some time.
It's not particularly cold in the overall scheme of things but here we are almost at the end of March and so far I don't think the temperature has even reached the 60's F yet, flatlining around 10 to12c day after day with one or two slight lurches into 14c territory.
In the 9 years I've lived here on the South Coast this is the first year I've not at least sat out in the garden or on the seafront and felt any real warmth or started to get a bit of a tan. Temperatures aside, it's the absence of sunshine which is really noticeable. Months of seemingly endless overcast skies have a debilitating effect on the mind for me personally and I know I'm not the only one feeling that way.
Moan over. Max today was 11c, zero sun and winds gusting to 30mph
