  1. Better late than never, summer has arrived in Autumn here on the South Coast. 3rd consecutive day of glorious sunshine and the temperature is heading towards 25c
  2. You picked a good day for a trip down to my neck of the woods. This weekend has been one of the best we've had for a very long time. It's funny looking back on some of the predictions at the start of this topic. Overall the meteorological summer here on the coast in East Sussex has been disappointing to say the least. Sunshine and temperatures below average and rainfall above average. August, whilst mostly dry was particularly bad with day after day of cloudy gloom. I'm making the most of this current late burst of autumnal warmth and sunshine.
  3. This is as good a day as we've had all summer down here on the coast in St Leonards on Sea, and the best by far since the 3rd week of July. Clear blue skies, a very slight breeze and 25.4c reported locally.
  4. We had quite a storm here in the Hastings area this afternoon, it lasted about 30-40 minutes and there was localised flooding as a result. One very close lightning strike and instant shotgun thunder literally rattled the walls of my flat and took out my tv signal for a few seconds. I rapidly unplugged everything. We've had another torrential downpour in the last hour but hopefully this is the end of it for a few days at least.
  5. Here in East Sussex the rain is lashing down and the wind is more akin to Autumn than July. I really am quite depressed by this summer so far.
  6. Overall not a bad evening here in St Leonards on Sea, though it failed to live up to expectations. Things kicked off around 9.30pm here and I called it a day (night) around 1.00am, Most of the lightning seemed to be of the cloud to cloud variety and thunder was almost non existant though we did have some torrential downpours. At one point the lightning picked up with strikes every 3 or 4 seconds, mostly distant. I'll rate it a 6/10. Thats me done for the night folks, hope it's good where you are.
  7. Here she comes. Frequent lightning now here in St Leonards on Sea and distant rumbles of thunder, rain getting heavier.
  8. The rain has just arrived here in St Leonards on Sea and my trusty old AM radio is picking up some sferics so it looks like game on here on the South Coast. It's still early days though because most of the trusted forecasters I've been tuned into say this is going to be a late evening/overnight event. Patience needed folks.
  9. Cloud has built rapidly here in the last hour to give 100% cloud cover. The atmosphere certainly has a loaded feel to it now. I will be surprised if we miss out on anything later this evening and into the night.
  10. Currently 25.5c DP 17.2c and not a cloud in the sky here in St Leonards on Sea. Unusually for me I've got a thumping headache, possibly a coincidence, I don't know ? We certainly seem to be in a prime location should it all kick off later this evening. I think I might have an afternoon nap so I can do an all nighter.
  11. Thunderstorm in the vicinity here in St Leonards on Sea. The first time I've even heard thunder for well over a year. Torrential rain and hail now, frequent thunder and my satellite signal has gone.
  12. My thoughts about Spring so far from down here on the South Coast. Plenty of sunshine so far but it's the low temperatures and a frequent northerly wind spoiling it. At least we have had some much needed rain in the last few days. The forecast for the next week is pretty grim though. Roll on Summer.
  13. Temperatures have been below average for some time here but there's been no lack of sunshine and blue skies so that's a plus.
  14. It's good to have some much needed rain here but disappointed the thundsertorms were all a bit too far east.
  15. This time of year it's quite common here on this part of the coast. Just a couple of miles inland it's clear blue skies though only a degree or 2 warmer.
  16. That's incredible, never seen anything like it. Thanks for posting it.
  17. It did at least deliver a potent hail shower here in St Leonards. The ground was covered within minutes by pea size hail.
  18. Still light snow falling here in St Leonards on Sea/Hastings, settling on all surfaces.
  19. After 3 days of snizzle and very light snow which did manage to settle on some surfaces it's now snowing 'properly' here in St Leonards on Sea. By properly I mean decent size snowflakes and readily settling on surfaces which previously remained uncovered.
  20. We've had light snow and snizzle since the early hours of Sunday morning here ( I'm 2 miles from the webcan location ) but absolutely nothing even remotely close to resembling a 'big storm' I'm sorry to say. I can report 4-5cms of level snow on my shed roof and patio table though. Everything falling on paths and patios melted on contact.
  21. Here in St Leonards on Sea there's been an almost continuous fall of snizzle/light snow since the early hours of Sunday morning. Settled on most surfaces to a level depth of 4-5cms. I've been surprised by how light the winds have been for most of the time.
  22. I live about 2 miles inland from that webcam at a higher elevation and for practically the last 18=20 hours it's been an on/off snizzle fest here. I haven't seen anything I would consider describing as 'proper snow' Just enough to give a light dusting to most surfaces. I'm surprised how light the winds have been as well. Still an interesting spell of weather though.
  23. 2 miles away in St Leonards on Sea and it's just a barely visible drizzle.
