I've not posted in a long time but can relate to some of the earlier posts about this seemingly never ending spell of overcast skies, frequent rain and dismal lack of any real sunshine so far this year. Perhaps my memory is fading in old age but to me this seems like one of the wettest and sunless starts to the year here in this corner of the South East for some time. It's not particularly cold in the overall scheme of things but here we are almost at the end of March and so far I don't think the temperature has even reached the 60's F yet, flatlining around 10 to12c day after day with one or two slight lurches into 14c territory. In the 9 years I've lived here on the South Coast this is the first year I've not at least sat out in the garden or on the seafront and felt any real warmth or started to get a bit of a tan. Temperatures aside, it's the absence of sunshine which is really noticeable. Months of seemingly endless overcast skies have a debilitating effect on the mind for me personally and I know I'm not the only one feeling that way. Moan over. Max today was 11c, zero sun and winds gusting to 30mph

Storms and Convective discussion - August 2023

That line of showers along the South Coast is producing some torrential rain here in Hastings/ St Leonards on Sea currently. I've been watching FlightRadar and several Gatwick bound flights have turned around and have been circling out over The Channel which is quite unusual. All seems to be quitening down now though. -
After what's been a warm and sunny afternoon here in St Leonards on Sea the rain has just arrived but doing nothing to supress the muggy feeling. Currently 20.6c after a max of 25.4c earlier. Some thundery activity would be most welcome but seems unlikely this 'far west'. I'm not giving up hope though.

You did well to give that a swerve mate. I live here in Hastings/St Leonards on Sea and we've had absolutely zilch apart from a few drops of rain I could count on one hand. I'm not giving up hope yet though -

I'm about 3 miles south of Battle here in St Leonards on Sea and so far we've literally had so few spots of rain I could almost count them. I'm not giving up hope yet though. -

Am I the only person sitting in the garden at this unearthly hour hoping the storms will reach us here on the South Coast ? -

Unfortunately in my experience far too many people aren't even aware of the warnings, and those that are either don't have a clue what they mean or just ignore them anyway. -
Hi John. What a great idea for a Christmas present but if I'm honest I think your Mum is going to struggle to find one with those functions at that price to be honest. Do you have a link to the one she is looking at please ? I've just had a very quick look on Amazon for something that might fit the bill but it's quite a bit more expensive although still pretty good value at £124.99. I will try and post a link later.
