  1. I wasn't living down here then but my friends were and I think we have some way to go yet to equal that. I've seen photo's of their garden with 9 inches of level snow on flat surfaces, that was an exceptional spell. We can but hope
  2. I live in a cul=de-sac off the Battle Road and I can't even get out of my Close now. Sensible of you to cancel your appointment, I've just cancelled one as well.
  3. I sincerely hope he's not taking the photos then ;-). Snowing quite heavily here in St Leonards-on-Sea for the last 1/2 hour or so, snow depth now doubled to at least 2cm. My car was booked in for mot and service this morning, have had to cancel because I cannot get out of my cul-de-sac. Several others have tried already and failed. It's a steep incline on a bend at one point.
  4. This pretty much sums up my thoughts so far. Light snow here with a covering of about 1cm currently. The December snowfall was more significant here.
  5. Me neither SB, where did East and West Sussex go ?! Anyway, just a few flakes blowing in the strong breeze here in St Leonards-on-Sea.
  6. I had a very pleasant drive from home here in St Leonards-on-Sea to my hospital appointment in Sidcup earlier today in perfect weather conditions. Bright sunshine to begin with but cloudier as I headed north. The temperature on the car thermometer ranged from 4-7c. I doubt the conditions will be as favourable for my next appointment next Wednesday though.
  7. Not according to this and many other articles.... https://www.holtsauto.com/holts/news/7-crazy-winter-driving-myths-busted/
  8. Whilst today has seen a return of the gloomy drizzle laden conditions here, the previous 4 days were a tantalising and welcome glimpse of early Spring. From last Thursday through to Sunday daytime maxes were 9-10c. Nothing too exciting I grant you, but when coupled with the lightest of breezes and between 6 and 8 hours of relatively strong sunshine each day it was enough to cheer me up.
  9. Cloudless skies, no wind and relatively strong sunshine here all day with a max of 10.7c. It felt warm in the sun. The seafront was packed with folk making the most of it and it felt much more like Spring than Winter. As much as I like the occasional snowfall to add a bit of variety to the weather, I can't say I'm looking forward to it as we head towards and into March. Winter had it's chance.
  10. Blue skies in abundance here in Hastings today and feeling warmer than the max of 9.4c thanks to near calm conditions. It looked and felt springlike with plenty of folk out and about enjoying the sunshine. On a personal note, some time ago I responded to an appeal put out by Hastings Borough Council and as a result attended a briefing today and have now joined the Hastings Weather Volunteer Team. The team is responsible for collecting daily data from the Councils weather station and feeding it into the Met Office Weather Observation Website. I only moved down here 3 years ago and had no idea HBC even monitored the local weather to such an extent so I'm really looking forward to playing my part in adding to data which apparently dates back as far as 1875.
  11. The drive from here in Hastings/St Leonards-on-Sea to my hospital appointment in Sidcup late this morning wasn't too bad apart from annoying road work hold-ups, but the drive back home this evening was pretty grim. Thankfully temperatures held up enough to ensure it was just rain but there was plenty of that and visibility was poor at times due to spray, made worse by poor road surfaces causing unexpected areas of minor flooding. The state of some of our so called 'major roads' is a bloody disgrace, a real bug bear of mine.
  12. Only one way to describe todays weather here in St Leonards-on-Sea.....depressing. Temperature hovering around 3-4c, winds gusting 40mph, grey sullen skies all day and frequent rain showers from late morning, ocassionally turning sleety. Iv'e about had enough of this muck, roll on spring.
  13. Yep concur with that LL, only small hail but quite intense and the patio was covered in minutes.
  14. Ah memories. I used to work in that large building on the left in your 1st photo. Colloquily known as 'the breadbin'....British Airways World Cargocentre.
  15. Recent sleet/snow/graupel showers in Hastings/St Leonards-on-Sea. Temperature on the car thermometer dropped from 8c to 3c in 5 minutes. Also picked up sferics on the car radio from lightning across The Channel in the Le Touquet area.
  16. Hastings likes nothing more than any excuse to dress up, throw a party and celebrate any event throughout the year https://www.hastingsfattuesday.co.uk/
  17. Appreciate your post Daniel but for some reason I don't get those options on my phone when I click on the links.
  18. Yet another truly dismal Saturday here since early afternoon. Cold, wet and windy. It continues the run of poor Saturdays since the start of the year hereabouts. Not looking too bad for tomorrows Umbrella Parade along the seafront in Hastings though, part of the 'Fat Tuesday' celebrations taking place over the next few days.
  19. In that clip I agree but here in Hastings/St Leonards-on-Sea the snow was a lot heavier than that for a time. Darned if I can work out how to post a photo/video on here. ( Technophobe )
  20. Woke up to a light dusting on some surfaces here in St Leonards-on-Sea this morning. Heavy snow falling here now though.
  21. Just back from a drive to Beachy Head and Birling Gap during which I encountered occasional light showers of rain and temperatures on the car thermo ranging from 3-5c. The occasional sunny spells were tempered by a chilly breeze but overall a very reasonable winters day.
  22. A vile day here in St Leonards-on-Sea. Dull and wet with the temperature hovering around 3-4c. The only thing remotely positive is the fact it's not blowing a gale.
  23. Since late afternoon there has been a fairly regular flow of showers streaming across Kent and here in East Sussex from a north easterly direction. It's been a complete reversal from 24 hours ago where the sometimes quite persistant showers were heading in the opposite direction. If only it were a few degrees colder it might have pleased the snow lovers.
