  1. Quick update from last week from me as couldn't post at the time. Last thursday was a total bust apart from some nice cells which came over and dumped a load of rain. However, when I finished work on friday the skies to my north were absolutely black and I saw the most incredible shelf cloud I've ever seen. I tried so hard to get some pictures but the thing was so massive I couldn't find a clear spot without buildings in the way to picture it. I managed to get home quickly before it arrived and started to drop rice grain sized hail. Had a couple of rumbles from it too so my first storm on 2024. Just sorry I couldn't get any pics for the thread.
  2. Well, this year has been really poor from a storms point of view for my area. I've had about 6 VERY weakly electrified storms maybe 1 or two rumbles, and any flashes all IC, no forks at all. This is despite massive cells coming right over and dumping loads of water, but there just seems to have been hardly any triggering mechanism this year for us. Hoping for better things next storm season. Now...saying that, I do hope we get some Thundersnow this winter! I've been incredibly lucky to have experienced it twice in my life. It's so unreal feeling, having lightning right overhead/nearby but no sound (the snow has a natural sound dampening effect). A truly beautiful sight to behold. Wishing everyone a great winter.
  3. Had one rumble last evening about 6.30pm when it got incredibly dark early from a passing cell blocking out the light. It absolutely poured down for about 10 minutes. My mother said she saw a flash at about the same time as the rumble.
  4. Warm and sunny now. 24c. Still, nice weather for going out this late in September.
  5. Yeah, clouding over a bit here but nothing substantial/stormy looking at all. Tbh I expected as much. All the action seems to be out west/north west (as usual).
  6. Incredible. I would've loved to have been there to see that. Usual bright and sunny here. However, forecast was for potential late morning/early afternoon so will see if anything develops.
  7. French imports are the best! They are often mcs in nature and quite powerful if they make it here. Yeah, it was weird having hardly any wind while other people have had really strong wind. Every storm is different though, that's what makes them so special. I haven't had a night time storm for two years so really appreciated the one we had early yesterday morning.
  8. Incredible storm at 12.30am this morning. Lasted for ages and flashes every few seconds. Proper Usa style stuff. Didn't come right over, most of the flashes were quite far away and all ic but was great to finally get something and something at night as well. What was weird was there was hardly any wind whatsoever. Just constant flashes and booms (not very loud). Still haven't seen a single fork this year and guessing this will probably be my last chance but what a way to finish off what has for me been an incredibly disappointing season up until last night when things turned around. Good grief!
  9. Had nothing during the "breakdown". A couple of drops this morning on the windscreen as I was going to work but that's about it. Hottest place in the country for the longest - no storms. Always the same. At this point I'll take a shower, anything! Looking black from the West at the moment. I see some small cells are around on radar but not sure if they'll peter out before getting here... As others have said Sunday looks the most promising for my area but I'll wait and see if it changes as it's still a way off yet.
  10. Yeah, something like that. I have a friend who lives just south west of Sevenoaks - not too far way, and he has had storm after storm all summer.
  11. Yep, certainly is weird looking at those sunshine total maps but I'm telling you, at least here it's been sunny almost every single day since April. Storms forecast for pretty much everywhere in the next few days...except here! I think I'm gonna write this season off and look forward to next year! Still, you never know, maybe the forecast will change slightly with storms from the west moving more eastwards and storms from the east moving more westward. One can only hope.
  12. Not here. We have had nothing but sunshine non stop since early spring with only a few cloudy/showery days as the exception. We've had a couple of short heatwaves at the beginning of the summer but thankfully it's been nothing compared to previous years. I was hoping we'd largely gotton away with it this year, then I saw the forecast last week.
