Of the 356 months of May to August periods since 1929 only 23 have broken the 240 hour sunshine mark for England as a whole. Just to put this month into context how good it has been so far for eastern, central and southern areas with more to come in the forecast
You probably will have 100 hours of sun by the 10th so even if the 2nd third is a bit under the last third could still get loads more. I’d be very surprised if London has anything less than average temps this month
Looks a bit unclear from the models midweek whether the trough sits to the west and throws a ridge to the east or if the trough will exert its influence over the Uk
I was thinking of pressure anomalies, sunshine anomalies and not just CET although that could be interesting if this pattern kept up for long enough eg ECM
If it was even 18c all summer and 10c at night but sunny and calm every day it would make a brilliant summer for me. If the sun shines it makes it feel much warmer than it is especially how strong the sun is May to August
We have been really spoilt in spring in recent years for warmth though. I wonder if we thought it was normal when it wasn’t especially 2011, 14, 17. As you say though 2013 you knew where you stood with the cold
