  1. @SollyOlly: I grew up with nothing but one coal fire, and my bedroom was freezing; especially in 1963. And the filth in the air was something to behold. I'm glad I haven't experienced green-brown fog since the 1960s. Up in Scotland (1988-2010) it was cold, but at least the fog was clean and white.
  2. @SollyOlly: Just like when everyday folks were scared of electric lighting -- but, more strangely, not by the gas lights that emitted toxic fumes? And I do recall the days of coal gas.
  3. @Scuba steve: I know, they are immensly beautiful structures that we all treasure. Unless, of course, electricity lines could be run underground; which new ones could be? Tall naked girls? Well, that's a different matter altogether!
  4. @Dami: I've never, in all my many years, grasped the point of 'feels like' temperatures: to me, 15C with a breeze feels like 15C with a breeze, and not 11C. . . I do get the risks from hypothermia, of course; but that's not the same thing, IMO? And now I'm back in Times New Roman!
  5. Lauren So, that would explain all the funny looks I was getting, as I walked (wearing a t-shirt and jeans) around Beccles, this arvo!
  6. @Scuba steve: Personally, I love the aesthetic wonder of pylons; stretching out across the countryside, as they do, like tall naked girls. . . And, that, ladies and gentlemen is all I can remember from 'learning' about poetry. I was 11!
  7. RJBingham Meanwhile, today's Deep Dive asks the obvious question: Are we seeing a very early demise of the PV? Should the answer to that be 'yes', I think we might be about to experience a very long summer. But whether or not it'll be a hot one is another question entirely.
  8. Can modular uranium and thorium reactors help?
  9. Daniel* But not so bad as posting weird and wonderful cherry-picked perturbations?
  10. That's if you think that the Gulf Stream will stop. How come Greenland had almost tropical flora, a few million years ago, when there was zero sea ice in the Arctic; but the heat got up there somehow?
  11. But they haven't made any predictions. There's a stark difference between predictions and diagnostics; what folks choose to do with those diagnostics is up to them. . .
  12. It looks as if the Madsters are polishing their measuring sticks, again.
  13. KTtom I mowed my lawn on Christmas Day 1974!
  14. Midlands Ice Age Aye, MIA; there are so many feedbacks that no one knows the truth.
  15. Midlands Ice Age My point is that it's hard to ignore it -- I'm in no way trying to disparage your thread; it's a brilliant topic. . . But AGW impacts everywhere?
  16. Midlands Ice Age Why would you want to ignore AGW, MIA, especially given that the Arctic seems to be one of the worst-hit areas? Increased warmth = increased H20 = increased snowfall, I think.
  17. This one really does encompass Climate Change denial:
