Just seen 2 toddlers being dragged down the road on 2 plastic sledges. Pathetic sight though, at street level its a couple of millimetres of melting greying slush
That reminds of the day I saw some goon hosing snow off his driveway. It was -10C!!

Here goes. A new one.

Very sharp back-edge clearance approaching, and the mountains look fantastic!
Just a matter of waiting for any showers, always a bit hit-and-miss...

Off we go again...

Heavier now in Aberdeen & it is definitely snow!!
I'd guess it'll stay snow over there, too; the cold air'll dig-in very quickly?
My temperature is dropping nicely here is a graph from my weather station showing the temp drop over the last hour,
You could a a bit of a dumping over there, tonight...

Cold with light snow and a fresh NNW wind, 1C...
-
I'm about 20 miles North of Inverness, and more or less sea level.
We got about 30 minute sof light rain before it turned to sleet then snow.
The ground was wet obviously before the snow arrived, the snow took a further 30 minutes or so before it bagan to settle on the grass, and has now started ot settle on the pavements/tops of cars.
Roads still clear although starting to turn slushy.
While I mormally like the snow, I could do without it today as the football is probably in doubt if it continues for a few hours !
Still got the snow, TJL???
-
You know it - guess what they have just done?
The main action for Inverness shouldn't start for another half hour or so judging by the models, radars etc. The coldest upper air temperatures don't dig in until then either.
Right on cue!!!
-
nein, nein, n'westerly's no good, it always misses here!! Keep it in the north.
Off out to play for the day now, hopefully land a snowball or 2 on a few mithering family squarkers...
Have a good snowball fight!
-
A few surfaces are still slushy after the giant flakes turned things a little white...Anyhoo, the snow's getting drier - it's not sticking to the glass anymore...We live in hope!
-
Temperatures in Inverness are now 1'C with 0'C dewpoint, so it's all good for the upcoming snow
A big improvement...Now, we just need the wind to back NW rather than stay North???
-
Now it's back to sleet!
-
give it a couple of hours and the temp should drop - but whether it'll be low enough for snow at sea level is doubtful.
If it lasts that long???
Now it's a blizzard!
-
Torrential sleety rain has arrived...5-10cm predicted!
-
Is it just me or is the wind direction (i.e. more or less Northerly) allowing the cold air to undercut the precip to a certain extent??? This may mean it stays as snow even towards the west?? If anyone has NW radar you can put on the 850hpa wind vectors and they are Northerly direct into the precip. Surely this will allow for a greater chance of snow?
Any ideas???
That would be my guess too...there's a wall of precip not too far from here...Light rain in the wind...
-
Maybe slightly OT?? But (if I remember correctly?) the White Xmas of 1968 was 'marginal' meteorologically...I recall heavy rain turn through sleet into a right dumping over a period of several hours...I think that the precip started at about 4C or so?? It can happen!
-
And (interestingly?) there's ice forming on the railway sleepers...
-
Partly cloudy and getting quite windy, 2C...
-
It seems like your forecast has gone the same way as my (unpublished) thoughts. I'd fully expected mildness...
-
Thanks for that, John...I'm guessing that it'll start as sleet or rain but might later turn to snow as the colder air digs in behind...I'm hoping so, anyway!
