  1. -30c here this morning after another weekend of heavy snow
  2. probably 1986...it was a cold year in general...obviously a very cold February was then followed by a very cold and wet April..summer was garbage outside of June...1985 was another cold winter followed by a garbage summer ..outside of the disgustingly wet and cool July 1988 wasn't too bad..June was ok as was August in my neck of the woods...1987 i struggle with because i dont remember it being too bad but stats say otherwise!
  3. 1983 never gets the love it deserves ..stonking July.. August wasn't bad either ..2005 had a very tidy June ..1982 was a very thundery summer
  4. markyo never wish your life away..you are a long time dead
  5. WYorksWeather never said they do ..its just an oddity that i live in the only area on the planet that has had a succession of colder years
  6. Don im no ENSO expert but even to me it was always going to be a basin wide strong event..think it was just wishful thinking by some
  7. damianslaw Every Strong or super strong El Nino in the past has resulted in a Mild snowless winter with the exception of 1983 which had an exceptionally mild January followed by a cold snowy February..so was always perplexed by the notion of an El Nino pattern favouring a cold winter in lots of the winter forecast for 2023-24
  8. In Absence of True Seasons sums up my winter
  9. danm look at the sheet i have to put up with ..no sign of spring here
  10. Don the scale is in very small increments thats why.
  11. WYorksWeather except in the prairie provinces particularly Alberta where i live where there have been a succession of colder than average years ..2023 should buck that trend though
  12. Don if you look at the last ElNino event of 2016 the global sea temp is only 0.1c warmer than it was then... be interesting to see if there is a similar drop off in SSTs this year as there was in 2016
  13. Metwatch sunset here is already at 6.10pm..clocks go forward here on 10th March sunset will then be past 7.30pm
  14. In Absence of True Seasons sunny and -20c here today i would take that over 10c rain and wind
  15. even though i have spent time in Dubai, Singapore, Maldives and Cyprus ..the hottest temp i have experienced is 42c in Prince George BC in June 2021..The coldest -48c here in Edmonton just a few weeks ago.
  16. I was living in the Lewisham/Brockley/New Cross triangle of SE London in the summer of 1994..without looking at any weather records ..June was dry and warm but not hot..world cup was on..July was hot humid and thundery...August must have been fairly average don't really remember much about it..Sept was wet and cool at times?
  17. raz.org.rain UK Summers were definitely on a cool and wet default setting when i was growing up..somewhere after 1988 that setting began to change
  18. Wold Topper Food Dependency..once the govt decide what can be grown and how and what you consume they further gain control of your everyday life..its easy to push climate change as an existential threat for other more sinister agendas.
  19. the UK has cut emissions by nearly 70% per capita since 1991..yet China has increased by 500% per capita in the same period and is now more than double that of the UK per capita and predicted to keep rising until at least 2030..for me this is a huge elephant in the room that nobody wishes to address...just stop oil and extinction rebellion can continue to throw tantrums on our streets ..however the UK is doing a great job ..others are not and that is why 1.5c 2.0c or 3.0c cant be stopped.
  20. This is my position on Climate Change.. is the world warming? yes.. are man made emissions responsible for said warming? yes. is the world economy going to collapse due to a warming world? no are we in imminent danger of global catastrophe now or in 100 years ? i would say no. is moving away from fossil fuels a good idea? yes are renewables a long term solution ? no will the UK/EU/USA reaching net zero by 2030 solve the issue? no is giving China/India etc a free pass negating resolving climate change in the short and long term ? yes is carbon capture/ nuclear power and the development of water/hydrogen energy the answer? yes Does anyone know what the planet will be like in 100 years from now..even the top boffins from round the world? no Do i think there are bigger threats to my children's future than climate change ? yes
  21. having to dig myself out of 5 ft of snow this morning...worst snowstorm here in the last 5 years..dumped 30cm of snow since yesterday lunchtime. Which doesn't sound too bad however its been very windy wipping up some large drifts of snow and of course not a snow plough in site on the roads this morning ..this one event has dropped more snow in one go than the rest of the winter season so far.
  22. In Absence of True Seasons like the celebs who say they will emigrate if X, Y or Z wins the election..but it never happens
  23. March can do one as far as I'm concerned....its only redeeming factor is that is not January or February
