  1. it can...trouble is UK winter default setting is for it to be mainly mild and wet being located where it is...so it is much easier to forecast mild wet spells of weather than cold snowy ones..where i live cold and snowy is the default setting trying to predict future mild spells is very difficult and often they just dont happen...sound familiar?
  2. you live in Plymouth what do you expect??..even cold and snow wouldnt make Plymouth any less miserable and depressing
  3. Looks like a filthy drive home from Heathrow on Saturday..i forgotten what it is like to drive in the rain!
  4. Didn't this very site predict a summer with shades of 1976 very recently?
  5. always makes me smile when charts form 47 and 62/63 are rolled out in these situations...straw clutching at its finest
  6. really?...how come the coldest recorded Decembers are not as cold as the coldest Jans and Febs then?
  7. Not necessarily varies from year to year..some years can be relatively snow free.
  8. its not like that on a daily basis..yes it can swing wildly but mainly in spring and late autumn..i have seen temps swing from a max of 90f to a max of 28f in less than 48 hrs here..best time for that to happen is early to mid May and early to mid October..hence the tornado season is April through May into mid June.
  9. what you are showing are set ups where cold weather happens at the same time not when the UK follows suit..here are 3 recent very cold winters across North America 2002/3...1988/89...1976/77..none of which were cold in the UK
  10. trouble is alot of people who love cold weather are the same people who also enjoy hot weather in the summer
  11. So are you blaming the models for the weather you get rather than the weather they predicted?
  12. dunno why its so difficult sleet is just a rain/snow mix..often seen snow flakes mixed in with rain..other scenario is ice rain where the snow flake has melted sufficiently to fall like a rain drop and look like rain but when hits the windscreen of your car you can see some ice still contained within. I also find it bizarre when people say it was sleeting quite heavily but it did not settle??..well it wont... only snow will settle.
  13. what happened to the ramblings of Joe B that everyone was posting??..Dec 10 all over again gumpf on its way etc...didnt he also have a bet with Peirs Corbyn who said it would be mild?
  14. i did not get any snow in Calgary last week..had a little bit just over a week ago but nothing much..was very cold over the weekend got close to -30c Saturday night..has warmed up now and will be relatively mild all week and into next weekend..highs between -2c and 0c except on Weds when it will be -15c just for that day only.
  15. yep sometimes you can have too much information..that's why i never stray into the model discussion thread because most of it is pure BS
  16. is it?...even looking from my side of the pond i couldn't see any sw winds and mild conditions...then again i cant see any raging cold either
  17. Looks like the States and much of eastern Canada will stay snow free for at least another week
  18. Sian Lloyd and sexy dont sit happily with my breakfast
  19. Had some funny temps across Calgary yesterday afternoon..it reached -1c where my office is..when driving home i live in the south east...i took 84th street which is in the far east of the city..there the temp was -12c then i swung west and went down 52nd and the temp rose to -3c by time i headed slightly east to my house the temp there was -7c so im guessing the mild air never made it right across the city..was -13c at my house this morning..not the 0c predicted.
  20. i have never seen a rainbow here in Alberta..they are about as rare as snow is back home
  21. what milder air?? has been pretty frigid all weekend..looks like we have Chinook rolling in later today and through tomorrow..cold this morning with the cold conditions of last last week and the weekend holding on until this afternoon when the temps are predicted to rise from -15c to 0c by evening..then +5/6c tomorrow then cooling off again later in the week..no snowstorms forecast though?
  22. what constitutes severe cold in the met office eyes??..sounds pretty standard fare for the UK in the winter reading that..not as though it is going to be -20c like it is here right now
