  1. The met office has both a yellow and amber warnings for thunderstorms for Thurrock between 2pm and 5pm. The clouds are thickening which I have not seen since June of this year. My flat which has always been known to be cold most of the year, is a horrible 26C and the outside temperature is 21C. Earlier on in the late morning, I saw what looked an anvil shaped cloud. It is hard to identify the clouds as they are emerging with each other. I eagerly waiting for some rain and perhaps even a thunderstorm.
  2. The rain became heavier from 12 noon to 1pm which was a truly blessing. I am unable to take photos as my android phone's battery is low.
  3. It began to rain approximately 10:30am and although the rain was very fine, it was very welcome. I loved going into the back garden and let the rain fall on my face. It is 11:43 and the rain is getting heavier. The path looks very wet as it has not been this wet since June. I feel like singing in the rain and celebrating with a merry dance in the garden.
  4. Today I have seen something I have seen for several weeks a cloudy sky.
  5. On Monday in South Ockendon there's a 58% chance of scattered showers at 2pm, but by Tuesday it increases 65% and it increases dramatically by Tuesday by 92% and I hope that the percentage of precipitation will increase and that everyone gets the rain that they need.
  6. Even though the outside temperature in the shade 31C, it has caused me unusual symptoms; where I pain only on the left side of my body. I am now wearing a foot brace (that looks like a boot) 2 foot support socks, two knee supports, lower back brace, two wrist and hand braces and two upper back braces.
  7. Tom and Dami I hope you will have a lovely walk. I keep on seeing a message that says Team Squirrel is writing and who Team Squirrel is. On my laptop computer I have several images showing rain along with my smart phone as it shows desperate I am for rain.
  8. I don't know if this due to the heat but my left elbow, left wrist, left knee, left heel and ankle as well as my foot arch and mini bunion are very painful. I also feel drained of all energy as though I have not had any sleep even though I slept well and went to bed earlier last night as I feel exhausted. I am getting so desperate for rain that I have started putting pots of water (mostly water that has been used for washing the dishes) to increase the humidity in the air. I do not know if I have succeeded or not. When I am walking I look like 'Hop-along Cassidy'.
  9. There was a brief hail shower and when it fell it sounded loud. A brief rumble of thunder. It happened approximately 9pm. At first I thought it was Simba scratching on his scratch tower but to my surprise I saw hail and rain. I hope we will be getting more rain and that it will last much longer than 5 minutes.
  10. Wennington, is not far from me as it about 3 miles away.
  11. The outdoor temperature is 38C and the indoor temperature is 29.2c but it feels a lot cooler.
  12. I feel as though I have prickly heat effecting my skin but there are no signs of a rash.
  13. The winter after the heatwave/drought of 1975-1976 ended up with heavy wet snow fell in early December, mid December, and mid January.
  14. Good morning Tom and Colette and all members of the Heat Haters Club. I find it hard to keep awake as feel so sleepy throughout the day. I am wearing my multicoloured bathing costume to keep cool and I have two fans on. One fan is a desk fan and the other one is a floor fan. The living room is in semi darkness as well my bedroom and bathroom. All indoor doors are kept open and I have plenty of bowls water for Simba my cat. I have water bottles in the freezer filled with water and waiting to get cold enough for me to drink. I have a large bowl (pudding dish) for strawberries and yoghurt to eat. My analogue barometer pressure has been falling since last night and now is pointing northwards to Changeable weather. I hope it will fall even further. The unitary authorities of Thurrock and Southend and the whole of Essex have received a yellow warning of thunderstorm and hope it will bring copious amounts of rain.
  15. Anyone wants to know what the drought of 1976, there is a video of a documentary titled Heatwave summer of 1976.
  16. The people who say that are the ones who never lived through it as I did. I remember it very well as home water supplies was cut off and you only could get water from a standpipe. The pavement was so hot you could fry your breakfast on it. It was a nightmare and I heard from a friend that the elderly were dying in their homes from dehydration.
  17. My inside temperature is 26C in the hallway but it feels much cooler in the front room and I hope that it stays this way and that the temperature inside does not rise. I feel very sleepy at the moment.
  18. Since Friday evening I have all my blinds down in all my rooms and in my living room and bedroom I also have curtains drawn. I have a desk fan on as well as my a floor fan on and a bowl of water in front of it as I don't have any ice cube trays to make ice. I threw my ice tray out as I thought would never need it as the bottom floor maisonette flat is generally a cold flat. I am struggling to keep cold drinks cool as once they have been taken out of the freezer, they go back to room temperature. I am typing this in a semi dark room and I hope everything I do will keep me and the flat cool. My cat Simba keeps on wanting to go out and I have resisted his pleas and both of us will be staying in until late Tuesday evening.
  19. They are still showing the Gravesend weather station which is not being used as it has been removed. The nearest weather stations to Thurrock are in Landwick near Shoeburyness which 29 miles away from me and is a coastal weather station and St James Park which is 21 miles away and is on a more built up area.
  20. I live in a bottom floor maisonette block of 4 flats and it has to be very hot for my bedroom and living to get room and to make matters worse I am now come down with diarrhoea.
  21. It's horribly hot in South Ockendon and I have got my blackout blinds pulled down and my blackout curtains curtains closed together which has helped make it more comfortable for me. The coldest places in my flat are the kitchen and wet-room where my walk in shower is.
  22. Sometimes a near-miss is close enough: ON July 1st, a CME passed close to Earth. It did not hit. Instead, it snowploughed some dense solar wind plasma in our direction. That was enough to spark a G1-class geomagnetic storm with auroras across many northern-tier US states. Rocky Raybell sends this picture from Keller, Washington:
