Thurrock has been getting a fare share of rain and the lawn and ground is getting very wet. There was a heavy downpour of rain in the late afternoon . At night the sky has been clear and the lawn is too wet to be cut. -
In South Ockendon it was dry during the day on Thursday but it rained over night. There has been light to moderate rain fail through the week. Today the rain has been heavier. My pond is brimming over with rain water and the lawn is soggy. I am looking forward to foggy nights.

I watched the partial solar event on YouTube as I don't have the necessary equipment to see it. I had a very frustrating time reading very basic questions on the YouTube livestream like when will it start, the location of the Greenwich observatory from people in the UK, and asking will it be seen in the UK, Scotland, Wales, India and other parts of the world. Answered their queries and posted links where they can find the time of the partial eclipse from. People not understanding the difference between partial eclipse and a total eclipse and wondering why it is taken so long and not interested in what the livestream presenters were saying. Many thought that the eclipse would be begin instantly and not understanding that its a slow process. -

I would say in the 70's but it was a slow and gradual change. Winters in the 70's where wholly snowless and it is when we had the drought in the mid 70's which I would never forget as their were standpipes where we would collect water from where my family and I lived in Esk Road in Plaistow in East end of London. The pavements were boiling hot and you could fry an egg on them.

I hope this includes Thurrock as it is not that far from Kent. As the crow flies Dartford is only 5 miles away from the QE2 bridge in West Thurrock.

Late last night I looked out to my bedroom and there was a streak of fork lightning that appeared above one of the houses across the road from me. There was no thunder and there was no sound with the appearance of the fork lightning. It made me jump as it was unexpected as there was no forecast of a thunderstorm for Thurrock. The rain was copious and made a great deal of difference to my gardens and the ground still looks wet. I hope there will be rain for Thurrock today.

Even though Thurrock was in yellow warning area for thunderstorms we did not get any. The reason for poor outcome of weather forecast for Thurrock is the weather station in Gravesend-Broadness has been removed and the nearest weather station is 30 miles away from where I live. The Met Office weather station is Landwick near Shoeburyness. The other weather station is St James Park, London.

Searching for an account weather forecast for South Ockendon is a futile task for me. I have been searching online for the first signs of rain coming to Thurrock. I looked on to the Wunderground weather station for my area as the Met office coastal weather station for this area is in Shoeburyness, Landwick which is 30 miles away from where I live. Every time the forecast shows rain to be 80%, hours later it goes down to 40% and then to 5%. I am beginning to lose all hope for any rain coming to my area. Today is another boring sunny day with scattered clouds. The barometer pressure had been going down for a while and has now stalled.

Here is a verse from me Tom We'll be having a rain fest and it will be one of the best. It will be a cooler September which everyone will remember. There'll be 31 days of fog in October which will excite every coldie weather forum member.

I am losing of hope of having rain in Thurrock and the South East this weekend as the weather wunderground keep on changing their minds of the chance of precipitation for South Ockendon from 80% down to 40%.

I now get excited when I see an overcast sky. Sadly despite the clouds today, the sun manages to peep through. All I want is dull day with no sight of the sun and hours and hours of light to moderate rain fall.

Today feels cooler than yesterday despite not having any rain or thunderstorms. The temperature is 21C and the sky is covered with Stratocumulus cumulogenitus clouds and there is a cool breeze. According to Wunderground there is a 71% of showers tomorrow at 6.00 am.

Malcolm, the whole of Thurrock who is separate from Essex as it is an unitary authority, missed out on rain and thunderstorms, even though it was in the amber area. It was galling to hear that central London had so much rain and Thurrock had none.

Yesterday was a big disappointment. Thurrock being in the Amber warning area for thunderstorms I thought it would be a dead cert that we would experience big thunderstorm. There was nothing, not one rumble of thunder, no crackle of lightning and to add insult to injury worse, there was not even the consolation of rain. It was completely dry as a bone.

Sadly the rain nor the thunderstorm did not make appearance when the amber warning for a thunderstorm was rescinded by 4pm.
