  1. I reckon that to be a Television Weather Presenter in this country you need two University degrees, one in Meteorology. the other in Turd polishing. The latter one would certainly come in handy at this present moment. This poxy weather is enough to drive you to drink.
  2. Light mornings play havoc with my sleep patterns, oh well, only another seven months to endure.
  3. Must admit it certainly doesn't seem like it sometimes, I suppose my expectations might be a tad high after freezing my b.....cks off all winter working outside. Just get sick and tired of being wet, and cold by the time March comes along.
  4. Must admit Spring isn't my favourite season to be honest Becca, Just seems to promise the earth in terms of things warming up , and generally delivers diddly squat most years.
  5. Ever since this snow started, all my missus has done is to look through our lounge window. I suppose I'd better think about letting her back in.
  6. When I was a youngster, I had cousins living in WSM. Living in Shipham myself at the time, 10 miles inland, and 500 or so feet above sea level made a huge difference. They hardly ever saw any in comparison.
  7. My Dad used to say that the weather in this country is about as reliable as a baby's backside When it comes to snow, and cold, it would appear that is more than the case.
  8. The only time excessive rain gets under my skin is if it stops me from working , and earning a living . Unlike most people, I only get paid for what I turn out in a day, and not for just turning up on time. A week or longer of that stuff hits me hard in the pocket sometimes.
  9. I haven't found this winter to be too arduous to be honest. It's made a nice change not to be battered by low after low, and by and large people have been spared the misery of being flooded out. At my age, I can take, or leave, snow, as long as it's dry, then I'm a happy boy.
  10. After the hot summer of 1976, I can remember talk of water being distributed via a national grid. 47 years later they're still scratching their heads and backsides. Still, you can't rush the job I suppose. When you start getting on a bit, you realise that when it comes to government, they're all as useless and deceitful as one another.
  11. Just ordered another half load of logs, still reckon I'll need them even if it's not a snowy armeggedon.
  12. No rain, and feeling quite pleasant in the sunshine. Quite happy to be honest.
  13. As regards extreme cold weather , a news report of some poor old soul aged 92 sitting in her living room dressed in an overcoat, and covered in blankets because she could only afford £ 3.00 worth of power per day put it into perspective for me. It's like most things in life, insofar as such things generally depend upon your personal circumstances, and whether or not you have to personally have to put your hand in your pocket to pay the bills.
  14. A bit of wind blew me fence down one day, and one or two lost their ridge tiles as I recall . That was the most notable thing about it.
  15. Having worked outside in the Building Trade on, and off since 1976 , I can honestly say that winters back then were much colder. 87 especially springs to mind as being absolutely perishing . Being at Primary School in the mid 60s I can recall snow on a far more regular basis than we now see. Sadly , these days, there doesn't seem to be much to differentiate between Autumn, and what is supposed to be Winter.
  16. I remember it well, it was a few weeks short of my 18th birthday. Here in Somerset, we were absolutely buried.
  17. Tend to agree Pete, a week or so of cold with a bit of snow for the youngsters ,no probs at all. I used to love it as a kid, and , I suppose part of me still does. Just to have a break from this damnable rain will be a blessing. I'm lucky insofar as I'm getting close to retirement now, I really feel for younger people with mortgages, vans etc to pay for and families to support in all of this. We might get a covering here as well being about 580 feet a.s.l.
  18. As long as it's dry, then I'll be happy. Bitterly cold weather is as useless to myself workwise as incessant rain. Having to find work in the midst of a recession is bad enough ,without having to cope with foul weather as well. When it affects you financially , it's a completely different matter. Not much one can do about it though.
  19. Yet another putrid day here in Somerset. Give it another 4 or 5 months, with a bit of dry weather, and some bright spark or another will be droning on about water shortages and droughts.
  20. I remember it well , I was working in it. Cold wasn't the word to describe it.
