Frost HoIIow

2020-21 wasn't too shabby here too. Pretty cold at times and had about 5 separate snow coverings, none were particularly heavy though (6 inches+) but it was far better than last winter's measly dusting one morning! odd thing was we had 4 inches fall one day at the end of November but very little during the actual winter. Can't think of many occurrences like that here.

Fantastic storms across the south coast, please make it up here.

Looking interesting for more storms tonight but hopefully it will arrive earlier so more can enjoy it.

Got woken by a big crack of thunder here. Wow absolutely torrential rain out there too.

Still feels like summer here and 24C indoors upstairs with certainly a humid muggy feel to things.

Another dry day here. Possibly some rain later tonight....... we'll see.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. 4 days ago and today was looking wet, now we're here and it's been bright, warm and bone dry. Seems to be a recurring theme over the past 12 months or so of fronts really struggling to make their way east and any potential rain being put back again and again. And when it has rained it's not been enough to fill up the reservoirs.

Beautiful town is Buxton. If I was single I'd move there. Oh and fill up my water bottles for free at St Ann's Well every day when we've been to visit we've taken litres back home. Had to wait though as others had the same idea

Just got in from a day in Blackpool, took the grandkids with us..... I knew it would be one of the best spots in the country today sheltered from the east wind and not much cloud in the sky all day long over there. Had fish and chips on the beach for lunch/dinner and went up the top of the tower, kids loved it looking down through the glass to the road below so excited they were jumping up and down on it, steady on we don't want to hear any creaking

As others have said it does look like a wet spell coming up. Not seen one for a while. We do seem to be having unusual weather patterns lately. We've had quite a weak Atlantic over the last 18 months or so and this unsettled spell isn't exactly straightforward either as the lows are having difficulty getting over the UK and past us. Will this go in our favour for Winter? It didn't last year but I think we was extremely unlucky. Will the next roll of the dice be decent? Having said that it won't be good for people on lower incomes, they are really going to struggle if we get a proper cold spell.

Not a bad day, some sunny spells and rather warm. Tomorrow last day of summer, but rarely is September a proper Autumnal month. Often stays on the very mild or warm side, like an extension of Summer. Only difference is the ever shortening days. A bit like March is rarely Spring like, the trees are bare throughout and snow can often arrive despite the days lengthening.

Yes hope you brought some thunderstorms with you as they are becoming an endangered species up here Snow not far behind!

Still got the shorts on here, personally it's still far too mild for trousers or jeans as I'd just end up sweating to be honest, even indoors it refuses to drop below about 22 or 23C...more than comfortable enough. Usually I give in by about the end of October when we do start to get some genuinely chillier days but even then it's not a given with our climate warming up more. Think a few years back in Oct 2017 when we had a run of temps nudging 20C just before the "red sun" because of hurricane Ophelia. What a weird day that was with the sky. Think it was the fires in Portugal that wafted up into the sky generating that red appearance. The following winter was pretty decent. I'd take another warm October for another Winter like that.

Not a bad day overall but we did have a few spits of rain, not enough to dampen the ground though. Very nice comfortable temperatures lately, not hot or cool enough to bang the heating on at all yet.

Yes sat outside today during the solar noon when the sun is at it's highest and it's definitely lost some strength now compared to a couple of months ago near the solstice, back then I burnt quickly. Summer is definitely on the way out.

Yeah cheers Don I've heard of those and should I have any more issues I'd rather get them instead of basically breaking their necks again. I've done my best at filling in holes and stuff and thankfully not had any more intrusions as far as I know since then. We don't have any houses near us for a few hundred yards so I think they live in the big woods at the back of our house. As I've been in the loft and there's never been any evidence that they've actually lived in the house, no droppings etc or bedding so it's highly likely they came in to see if there was any food. I'm not a rodent expert though but still I would rather have them not in the house.

Not had rats thank god but had wood mice here over the years loads of them which aren't as bad but still a bit of a pain. Had them in the house too before properly blocking entry points, even in the bedroom woke us up gnawing on on a box and then it darted out the room when I got up. It was a tiny little thing. Problem is they're good climbers and jumpers and can run up the inside of drain pipes and into the bathroom/kitchen sink and then into the house. They can fit through tiny gaps and holes. Didn't really want to kill them but I have done in the past in traps and felt a bit bad afterwards so then went to town and blocked most of the possible entry points. Not heard any scratching or seen any for a few year's now.

Cloud started to break up around 2 pm here in the eastern part of the region and since then it's been a very nice afternoon/evening. Temps look pretty much perfect over the next week or so - high teens to low 20s. No silly heat on the way. But warm enough and dry enough to do anything outdoors. Signs of it turning more unsettled from around 3rd September but still a good week away yet. We do need a wet Autumn though nationwide to ease the drought.

Yeah Edmonton is as far north as my location. Since this time last month we've lost almost 2 hours of daylight.

Yeah I'm not overly optimistic either even here way inland and higher up, last winter was just crap for snow just one very light cover I think. One of the poorest I can remember. I reckon we're just going to have to get used to a warming climate. Last time I had to use a snow shovel? Back in 2013.....11 bloody years ago. The BFTE in 2018 was heavy powdery stuff so wasn't needed it just blew everywhere!

As other have said certainly a muggy feel the last few days, if one month can guarantee it being muggy at times then it's August, for some reason it seems to happen most years even if on face value the temps aren't usually all that impressive, we just seem to get more of this muggy SW airstream around now. Looking pretty wet tonight and through tomorrow, grass cut needed by Friday hopefully the ground will have dried out enough by then.

Yeah can't remember the last settled sunny August. Don't even think 2018 was. June and July were very sunny and at times hot but from memory not the August.

A lot of military activity around the UK today on flight radar. UK and US air force. Wet here now and probably lasting for at least another hour or two. Hopefully this should help the reservoirs even just a bit.

Doesn't look like that will change anytime soon with the Hurricane season being dead so far. I suppose that's not a bad thing for people in the Caribbean, Mexico and the U.S. in terms of no property damage but it won't help stir up the Atlantic for us and ease the hosepipe ban across the south and east.

True. September is far more likely to be a boring month rather than one for heat or extremes. Probably the most uninteresting month of the whole year, rarely all that cold or hot the only interesting part is seeing the gradual leaf change starting towards the end of it.
