  1. Heading off to Chamonix, for the first time, next Thursday for a week snowboarding. Forecast, at this stage, looks good with significant snowfall over the next 5 days. Perfect timing for the third and probably final trip of the season after a great week in Nendaz couple of weeks ago and Bulgaria at the start of January. Didn't make it to Austria this year, hopefully next seaon..
  2. I arrived at a similar decision this morning. Weekend skiing at the Scottish centres can be a queue fest. That and limited runs usually means a frustrating day. I might venture up through the week before milder conditions take hold.
  3. Glenshee webcam is back up and running: http://www.ski-glenshee.co.uk/Webcam
  4. Cold, calm and dry. Lying snow making driving more challenging. -8c noted at 0630.
  5. Moderate rain that lasted from early morning till dusk. Darkness brought a change as snow replaced the rain. Large snowflakes falling at present, some the size of fifty pence pieces, others larger. Currently just above freezing at 0.5c
  6. Darkness has brought snow for my location. Very large snowflakes, easily 50p size, some larger. The ground is very wet with the constant rain throughout the day but it is starting to lie.
  7. Signs the Atlantic is waking up. Might be good news for snow for those at high elevations, Scottish ski centres for example.
  8. Moderate rain here for a few hours now, the grounds getting a good soaking at long last.
  9. The change to wetter. windier and milder weather is thankfully underway and looks to continue next week. I'm expecting delivery of a further half a dozen Canadian Tsuga trees from Holland next week so the weather change is most welcome. Currently 2c, light rain with little wind. Perfect.
  10. The 2016/17 ski season has been described as 'the worst in ten years' as weather disrupts business: https://stv.tv/news/north/1378855-ski-season-under-threat-as-winter-months-fail-to-deliver-snow/
  11. Dry sunny cold day, the frost hasn't lifted in place throughout the day. -5c at 0700 -3.5c at 1800 Currently foggy and feeling chilly.
  12. Looking at the absolute devastation the avalanche caused, I'm surprised anyone survived but thankfully some have. Latest reports suggest up to eight people have now been rescued. It's difficult to comprehend the forces involved, but what's left of the hotel has moved 30 feet from it's original position.
  13. Very sad indeed. Images of the hotel before and after show just how destructive this avalanche was.
  14. Avalanche hits hotel in Italy: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38674788
