interested & confused

Yup, woke me up as well. still getting drizzly showers, but not heavy like that first dump. What feels stupid is trying to dodge the showers to water the greenhouse

The answer here, was not very long, we had drizzle from about 11am, turned heavier about an hour ago....

They do have a destinct, deep whoosh, whoosh noise if you live near to them, worse with some wind directions. If I stay at my son's house I can hear them, but they're all used to the background noise now, so it doesn't register with them. It's just like you get used to living with traffic sounds in your own area.

The sun didn't last long, did it? I was gearing up for the allotment when it got clody and we had a bit of drizzle. Oh well...

MetO forecast? Bah humbug - mine shows, for today, "maximum temp 20C" Pfft, that seems impossibly optimistic, as it's grey and we've had a bit of that 'thing' where there's drizzle in the air, but it doesn't seem to reach the ground? Anyways didn't bother to put the washing out to dry... used the airer instead.

I live in a very old house, with mostly double thickness brick walls only the front could have insulation pumped in, so it is hard (so expensive) to heat, plus at my age I feel the cold. So all in all, my heating is on for a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the evening. It's not on high though, living room is 18C at present. I was with Green energy so got caught out when the company folded, my new monthy direct debit is going to be about £122 according to the latest email info I seem to use more gas than Ofgem's 'medium' but less electricity, I wonder if that means it would be better to top up the living room with a halogen fire, rather than turn the c/heating system thermostat up when it gets colder?

Kalimera Zakynthos - that brings back so many happy memories I lived there for 5 years and winters were amazing, bright and sunny but not necessarily that warm. There was actually snow on the mountains for 3 winters while I was there. It never lasted more than a day or 2 before the sun came out again though

Here, it's calm hot and sunny, just a lovely day - a reminder of the summer days we should have had more of

I lived on Zakynthos, the Greek island, for 5 years from 2004 and absolutely loved the sunshine - but the mid-summer heat was too much for me. I ended up cooped up inside with the airconditioning on. In the UK I'm cooped up inside with the central heating on in the winter LOL. Nowhere's perfect I s'pose. This summer, though, the SE has had very few really sunny days, and I'm already beginning to suffer from S.A.D. whuch usually only appears in winter....

Just had a squally shower, with quite large lumps of hail in there at first, before it turned into rain after a 5 minutes. Enough to flood the front path for a while.

It persisted down all night and most of this morning, so that the front footpath is flooded. It's just soaking away slowly now - ready for the next lot? These dreary grey days make me tired all the time - tbh I never seem to wake up properly unless I see some sun.

No sign of any daffs here, but the tulips in the pots near the door are just poking through the soil, which is earlier than last year. I know it's been a very grey and wet winter, but it's sure not been a cold one so far. EDF have reduced my fuel direct debit by a tenner/month so that tends to prove my point..

I lost part of my greenhouse yesterday and next doors shed was trashed a little while ago, by a nasty gust. It's just whistling up the terrace No sleep 'til it calms down a bit..

Yup! Storm Brendan blew down my greenhouse doors yesterday, the wind is stronger today, doing more damage, yet it isn't a named storm....what's that all about? What does it need for a storm to be named? Either the Met are going to name them - or not. I don't care either way, but the present system makes little sense to me!

We're losing about 3 minutes a day it seems The shorter days always seem to come around sooner than the longer ones, I dread the really short winter days cos of S.A.D.

Here in Willesborough it's 22C and the NE breeze does have a distinct chill in it, perhaps you are more sheltered from the wind than we are. I'll believe the 30' forecast for tomorrow only when it's actually here!

Local MetO did show rain up to 5pm - so can't say they were wrong. It was just much heavier than I thought it would be. The footpath outside was like a river when I walked home, up over my ankles in places. Luckily it hadn't gone over the doorstep, but it was a close call.

Lovely after lunch yesterday, got some more done on the allotment It's 11C here and has rained heavily since 3am, everything now sodden and puddles everywhere. It's just spitting now but more dark clouds in the distance. so think there's lots more to come An indoors day for me then!

Crane flies? - only a few of them here, come to think of it - they usually drive the cat mad, but not this year. A dreadful, blustery, miserable grey day, here. It's not stopped raining since about 8am. Getting cold as well as it gets toward dark and lights have been on since before lunch, The rain will help replenish the aquifers, if it doesn't all run off, but days like today aren't very nice if you do have to be out and about.

First bright and sunny start to the day for what feels like ages Felt cool earlier though only 10C with everywhere dripping.... Hope the forecast is right for the weekend, warmer and sunny with it.

Reminds me of caravan holidays when I was a child. Mum & Dad saved up all year to go away and then it rained all week so we came home early. I can remember more of those than sunny all week holidays, such a shame after all their hard work

It started raining at 11.30am when I was at the allotment, picking veg for lunch....it had soaked through my jeans and boots by the time I got home YUK! Still raining heavily and 13C - lovely weather for August, I don't think!
