  1. Raining or sleeting here right now to dark to tell.
  2. I've live a little lower than you and haven't a single problem bar pot holes. Driven around on ice in the peak district while going out walking and again zero problems. Temperature wise this year has been on the winter tyre side. But a lot of years they haven't been needed. You would have run the risk of running round with less grip than normal tyres so you need to swap them around. Go back to the cold winters of 80's and end of the seventies definatley. These days it's borderline whether you need them or not.
  3. Dry cloudy with normal temperatures Temp 1.8C low 0.4C, Barometer 1009mb falling, Wind F2 SW, Rainfall nil
  4. Sadly it's true very rare that anything is upgraded nearer the time. The big example are storms seven days away 70 - 80mph 6 days away 75- 85mph 5 days away 60mph to 70mph 4 days away 55mph to 65mph 3 days away 45mph to 55 mph 2 days away 35mph to 45 mph. That's not including the change of path of the storm which also has a bearing. Too be honest you've got to expect an adjustment seven days out and what you're looking for is for days 4 and 3 day not to show much difference. Anyway this cold snap hasn't seen much of change since the models suddenly homed in on it. The only thing that has altered slightly is the intensity of tomorrows front. The other thing which catches people out is comparing 12oz to 18oz and then 00oz etc. You're best comparing the 12 oz to 12oz from the day before.
  5. Unless you've got a place to store them properly Winters tyres generally aren't worth it. In recent Winters you'd hardly be using them. Anyway back onto this cold snap local forecast has rain tomorrow and I've just noticed the temperature has zoomed up from 1.6C to 2.2C in the last half hour so they could be right. We shall see. Even if does Snow the amount will be small so will cause little difficulty for those who don't panic at the first flake of Snow. So that's 1% of drivers then. Local forecast has the next two events down as dry days. Mmmmmmm.
  6. Cool day after a mild start some sunny spells but plenty of cloud which is now clearing Max temp 6.3C now 3.3C, Barometer 1015mb steady, Wind F1 WNW, Rainfall nil
  7. Dry mild start with a north westerly breeze Temp 4.0C, Barometer 1013mb rising, Wind F4 NW, Rainfall nil
  8. The other thing to consider is freezing rain which could also been the result if the temps don't get mixed out.
  9. First bit eof the cherry Saturday however the met isn't keen to bring it so far east and has us on the edge the gfs on the other hand has no problem plonking us in the middle of it. Tuesday could be a very good day however we need to keep an eye on those uppers. If it doesn't mix out as quickly as shown this could be a major freezing rain event.
  10. Well the sudden change in the models into suddenly very cold weather rather than the mobile transient weather we saw in Jan has scuppered my chances already.
  11. Sunny Sheffield finished on 4.4C +0.2C above normal. Rainfall 119mm 146.9% of average so a very wet month.
  12. Dry with sunny spells during the morning increasing cloud in the afternoon with a few spots of rain before cloud thinned again at the end of the afternoon Max temp 5.9C now 3.7C low 0.5C, Barometer 1009mb rising, Wind F3 WNW, Rainfall trace
  13. Dry after overnight rain and sleet Temp 2.8C, Barometer 1001mb rising, Wind F4 WNW, Rainfall 0.2mm
  14. Sunny Sheffield will finish on 4.4C unless it turns mild overnight which is unlikely. That's 0.2C above normal so basically average. Rainfall 114.4mm so far how much higher depends on how many rain sleet showers we have tonight.
  15. Early rain quickly clearing then dry until lunchtime when snow showers arrived briefly giving a covering. Despite dropping temperatures Snow showers turned to rain and sleet. Now heavy rain and sleet shower Max temp 6.1C now 2C low 0.9C, Barometer 999mb falling, Wind F4 WSW, Rainfall 6.2mm
  16. Sunny Sheffield is going to finish on close average temperature wise and a well above for rainfall.
  17. Dry pleasant day with sunny spells a little on the cool side but not bad otherwise after a mild start Max temp 5.8C now 3.9C low 3C, Barometer 1019mb falling, Wind F4 WSW, Rainfall nil
  18. Sunny Sheffield up to 4.3C bang on average. Rainfall 108.1mm 133.5% of average
  19. Mild day with some heavy rain mid morning which turned light and died out around lunchtime. Afternoon dry with sunny spells Max temp 9.8C now 5.1C low 4.9C, Barometer 1030mb rising, Wind F3 WNW, Rainfall 3mm
  20. Aaah the deep FI easterly pattern hinted at in deep fi. Anyway ignoring that we do seem to heading back too cooler conditions after the mild weekend with one more day to come.
  21. Sunny Sheffield up to 4.1C -0.3C below normal. Rainfall 107.9mm 133.2% of average
  22. Twas dry with sunny spells. Sun still out but now drizzling. A warm spring like day despite this Temp 12.1C, low 4.6C, Barometer 1029mb rising, Wind F3 WSW, Rainfall 0.5mm
  23. A few light spells of rain in Sheffield on top in peak district round Hathersage plenty of rain this morning. Max temp so far 11.1C low 2.3C, Barometer 1021mb rising, Wind F4 W, rainfall 0.2mm
