  1. I could tell it was going to be bad when the ice scraper just slid smoothly across the wife's windscreen and then I had to hack at the ice with the corner of the scraper to get through it. Luckily, today, although I managed to sit with feet off the pedals spinning the wheels of the van to make 0.5m progress, my route was fairly ok (once I pulled over, reversed and laughed at those who were previously up my b'side failing in the same way) out to Elland via a looong route! Had the same horrible feeling last week though of going down a hill at Salendine Nook in the snow. Once I ran out of right steer I braced!! Not nice! A nice covering down the hill here though, again, a good 2+ cm (still snowing slightly). Scar Lane, although gritted at 5ish this afternoon is covered and looks icy!
  2. Had moderate snow here about 30 mins ago, now returned to light, small flakes/ice pellets. As PTFD said, looking misty on the tops around here. Oh hang on, as I look out of the window again it is snowing moderately. Main road at the bottom (Scar Lane) now getting a covering. Judging by the manoeuvre a taxi just did, it looks slippery again.
  3. 12Z NAE looks to keep any precipitation as snow over Western West Yorks and central pennnine belt until 12pm tomorrow - obviously this could all change as the night wears on.
  4. A slow thawing has occurred here today with cars losing some cover. Been light snow on and off from about 2:30. Now intensified more, with good size flakes. Got a light dusting now.
  5. A few heavy-ish bursts for 15 mins with small flakes here. Now heavier with bigger flakes.
  6. Snowing here too. Smallish flakes (with periods of larger flakes on and off) but being blown about so settling everywhere nicely! Nice pics by the way DB.
  7. Yes, it was disappointing to look outside this morning and see nothing but clear pavements/roads. It snowed heavily earlier and left a thin, wet layer on the grass etc. Roads are full of slush. Currently snowing, but I am guessing the temp & DP are too high, as it is melting readily. Still, at least it is snowing.
  8. Certainly is snowing now down the hill. Although, eased off a bit, the cars are white and teh roads/pavements have the icy/slushy layer, so hopefully if it continues through the night, we may have a nice covering by morning, even if it is only a cm or so.
  9. yep, looked out before I came upstairs and it was drizzle. Just looked out now and it is snowing again. No settling anywhere, although it is small flakes and verging on moderate.
  10. About 10 mins after I posted, I looked out and it was just snow. A bit has settled on car windscreens only (not much though) and it now looks like sleet again, and light at that. Seounds like the view towards Scape will be a true winter scene again then in the morning?
  11. Over at Golcar. Still sleet, but the flakes are more noticeable now. Would be nice to have another covering, but unsure if it will happen. Unfortunately, my weather station temp indicator got wet in the summer and is stuffed, so I can't track temps or DPs.
  12. Lampost/car roof/windscreen watch here shows sleet at the moment. (180m asl)
