Storms and Convective discussion - 20th March 2023 onwards
dusk replied to Supacell's topic in Storms & Severe Weather
What are the thoughts for some action tomorrow? The BBC forecast at 18:30 earlier mentioned a potential convergence zone running from Somerset to North Norfolk, with risks of funnel clouds. Now, I can't remember a televised BBC forecast mentioning either of these sort of events so confidence must be high. -
A busted flush here in TF2 for both rain and / or storms. Still humid as fck, and another uncomfortable nights "sleep" ahead. Whilst typing, I just remembered that we flew to Greece on 15th June. I can't remember any appreciable rainfall before that, and little - if any - once we got back on 30th June. So that's 8 to 10 weeks since experiencing rain, and 6 weeks of temps that would be very agreeable sitting on a beach with the occasional dip in the sea. Yet, no rain, no storms (even in Greece), and temps disagreeable with working in an office in Willenhall with no air-con. 'kin joy...........

Sit-Rep for TF2 Had to pop to the shops at 20:30 to get some accompaniments for dinner, and my car said it was still 29 degrees outside. Got back from walking the pooch about five minutes ago, and I'm sat here typing this with sweat running into my eyes. In other news, here is a report from the front line on how the current weather is affecting farmers:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP2J3l4U86k

Indeed. Driving back from Newport at about 18:30, I noticed some proper cumulus building up just North of Donnington. Not seen clouds like that for weeks. -
Mrs. Dusk & I flew out on holiday on 15th June, and it had been dry for at least a week beforehand. Got back on 29th June, and since then hardly a drop of rain here in TF2. It's a dust-bowl here. 'orrible

Storm Eunice - 18th February

Having followed this thread for the last couple of days, and based on the observations of the more meteorologically clever posters on here, I would wholeheartedly agree with Sidsnake. I do enjoy energetic weather that "does" something, but I can't remember forecast wind gusts of around 80mph in Shropshire in the 30+ years I've lived here. -
It's raining! Proper rain for the first time in over 3 weeks!
-
Am I missing something here? Are you really suggesting that a current commercial aircraft will get to 800mph? And that the transatlantic record will be broken? i) I don't know of any current commercial airliner that breaks the sound barrier ii) The record from New York to Paris is held by a Lockheed SR-71 which took 1 hour and 45 minutes

Is it just me, or - based on this documentary of the 1987 "Great Storm" - does this incoming system remind one of the same? Bitterly cold preceding winter, abnormally hot summer, very wet in places during Autumn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIQX9UhOhwU&t=121s

Nothing measurable here since 27th May I've never seen the lawns and verges so parched -

Well, that was an EPIC couple of hours! Constant rolling thunder from 16:30 to 18:45, with some huge CG. My wife and I decided to head out in the car to find a good vantage point, and we ended up in Cosford. It was biblical there, and the main crossroads was under three feet of water. The scale, frequency, and sheer noise of the lightning and thunder was unbelievable.- 3,835 replies

It's only "snizzle" but still coming down here! That must be 18 hours solid snowfall -

It's been constant snow for well over 12 hours now, and mrs. dusk's weather app is forecasting it not to stop until 23:00. 6" cover on top of the cars on the drive -

A good couple of inches in TF2 earlier, and the roads were pretty much gridlocked. Forty minutes to get from Donnington to the M54 -

Melted now; hey ho I did say to mrs dusk earlier, however, that seeing snow falling that is lit up by a street light is strangely appealing (and I hate winter on a cellular level) -

That model thread is getting impossible to follow, for me. Just before I left the office, the page count was 184; it's now 189. Mental

Well, yesterday's rant clearly gave the weather in Salop & the West Mids a good kick up the a r s e A proper good period of rain, and a bit of a squall line passing over the office in Wolves at 16:00 Colour me half happy..........

Hateful today. Gloomy, windless, no rain, not drizzle, not even mizzle. Just the slightest hint of moisture floating around in the air, as if the weather can't be arsed to do anything meaningful. Jesus wept, I cut the lawn on Sunday just gone and the cuttings were bone dry in October! Maybe, just maybe, Telford gets its first proper "stormy" autumnal weather for two years on Saturday (last year, after two weeks in Cuba where every night was never less that mid-twenties and 80% humidity, we looked forward to returning to an autumnal UK and some occasionally stormy weather, but no. Azores ridging and Scandi blocking for what seemed like five months solid put paid to that).
