Well the predicted gusts inland will do lots of property damage. A couple of years ago we had gales here, sustained winds 25 to 35 mph. Gusts up to 50 to 55mph, then we had a stronger gust blow threw, lasted 5 to 10seconds, large crash and bangs, ripped of two large ridge tiles. When i spoke to insurance Company there checked there weather reports ??? maybe met office, dont know, but he came back on the phone and said my post code area had a reported gust of 58mph. So if 58 can ripped of ridge tiles god only knows what a 70 to 85mph could do. -
Winter 2021-22 Chat, Moans and ramps thread

Keep them pics rolling, I love em. We have had a reasonable winter in North Derbys, 6 falls of heavy snow, numerous roads blocked, hundreds of abandoned cars, 6 to 10 feet drifts on the hills, I suspose because I have posted lots of pics, and vids in the Midlands thread does that mean Iv have to get lost as well hahaha. if I cannot get lots of snow here then the next best thing is looking at pics of it elsewhere, even USA if I'm desperate -
Model discussion: Hunt for cold - into mid-January
marksp replied to Community Team's topic in Forecast Model Discussion
Not much to say really if looking for snow, sure its cold, and dry, also foggy, but watching models when we have this is a bit of a drag at present. -
I have to agree with all of this, as living in Matlock we do seem to do reasonable well snow wise, although I wish I was a bit further up the hillside, although its only a 15 min walk to reach 300 metres. I have worked mostly in the Matlock area as well and a friend who had 4 years working in Derby used to say what a "nice sunny day" it had been, but here in Matlock in had been mostly cloudy and dull (I suppose Peak District hills effect) ? We do seem to get snow from any direction , good point. Yesterdays streamers sometimes reffered to as Cheshire gap - hit us again. in 2010 we had 48cm level snow in back garden from a Humber streamer, and when I spoke to JH (respected poster on here ex Met man) he only had 5 to 10cm I think and he was reporting from Rotherham area ? I checked a few weeks ago about elevations of areas around here, within1 to 5 miles and was suprised to see that lots of my favourite spots were higher then Buxton Market Place. I have close family living in a village whose garden is at 310 metres, fab place to go for a coffee, snack and check out snow, but you do need a 4x4. Last nights trip over to Chesterfield had to be abandoned there was too many stranded cars, but again some of the road was at 325metres, good place snow wise, even if its light here we can get to some great spots for a snow fix. cheers

definatley an altitude thing, during the last event Nov / Dec there was between 15 to 20cms at Pikehall, Newhaven, parts of Parwich, 4 to 6 miles from here and 260 to 350mtrs Middleton had easily over 12 inches lying at my house in Matlock (195mts ) there was 5 to 7cm, but in town centre 90 mtrs ish, but only 400 metre walk there was just a slight covering. it them hills I tell you, should be plenty of snow still around at the weekend, in the Peak District Today we still have 85% coverage, so Hoping it tops up overnight and tomorrow.
