  1. Yes, I can understand that point of view. However, the same can be said in the summer months to be fair when some are constantly looking for the high 30’s all the while with wall to wall unbroken sunshine. For me, I so wish we could have the seasons back as they used to be. It seems to me the seasons have shifted. We have seen winter arrive when spring traditionally kicks in and summer hangs on now well into October and November! Like other members back in the 60’s I well remember both Halloween and Bonfire night being cool possibly cold affairs with one needing a coat, mittens and scarves - not so these days. As well as sound proofing ear muffs it seems all one needs these days is light clothing the weather is often so warm through October and into November.
  2. I concur with this sentiment entirely. Mild muggy autumn and (possibly) mild muggy winter weather is absolutely yukky yuk yuk i’ve done some jobs outside this morning and was chilly without layers but as soon as the layers went on I was far too hot so had to start stripping the layers off. Not to mention also the stupid lawn is growing again and could do with being cut, so annoying. I’ve always been a winter person but if this mild muggy dross is all that is on offer I may begin to change my mind. Going to live in Antarctica might offer a solution According to the holiday expedition advert they have two seasons (I guess summer and winter), snow, ice and penguins …..and not a firework to be heard!
  3. Chance would be a fine thing. Got in the shower this morning - no hot water Engineer given code and says its a blocked pipe - sounds painful Boiler only 2 years old so under warranty. Anyhow he’ll be here shortly to rectify it. Okay for heat as I use the multi fuel burner every day when needed.
  4. ….well, yes it has to be said MetO longer range do often read that way
  5. what a thoroughly depressing thought right in the heart of winter…
  6. Cannot wait for this mild yukky autumn weather to “do one” and make way for crisp colder more seasonal weather. My birthday is beginning of November and, although never snowy, my birthday has always been on the colder side rather than mild. One of my pet dislikes are flies - loath the bacteria loaded pesky things and I am still wafting my fly swatter around the carport to kill the blighters. To add to the frustration my youngest cat loves chasing them around (and eating them ) so as long as flies are around she is very naughty about coming back in!
  7. My poor tortoise is fed up of this uninspiring mild borefest too. Its not warm enough for him to be active but not quite cold enough to go to sleep. He’s confused with the topsy turvy seasons and so am I
  8. Apologies, probably not the right thread but I didn’t know which subject to put under in the climate change thread. Can anyone enlighten me? I am confused. From what I have read it is thought climate change in the UK will lead to hotter, drier long summers and milder wetter winters. I then read reports that some scientists believe the gulf stream is slowing down and if this does happen it may well will bring about an overall reduction in temperatures for the UK. How could it be both?
  9. Have put and extra layer on for today, however, will be filling the log basket in the lounge ready for the light up. I’m sure it will be needed pretty soon.
  10. forgive my ignorance but if the talk is of any resulting tsunami from a landslide - if it happens - will it be from the west side of the volcano itself? I ask as my Aunt and Uncle live on Lanzarote.
  11. Flash of lightening and rumble of thunder here 10 mins or so ago.
  12. Have to say this is one judgemental bigoted comment. Not liking being cooked alive or burnt to a frazzle by the heat and sun does not automatically = unhealthy people or unhealthy life styles. Mums friend is in end stage heart failure on piped oxygen in his home. He’d have something very terse to say to you about that comment I am sure…… he found the heat very difficult to cope with.
  13. Short and sweet, all petering out now although haven’t been out to look at the sky to see if there is more to come.
  14. Yes, I’m in Penn. Very lively with gusty wind, torrential rain, rumbling thunder and I think a couple of flashes. All seems to have died down somewhat now although the rain (thankfully for the garden) is still lashing down.
  15. Bit of a turn around now though? Thunder and torrential rain outside my window. May not last long but a right lively storm we have
  16. Does feel better today but still hot. I have a this critter below who drives me insane in heat, when it is as hot as this week he’s hyperactive and a nightmare. He tripped me up a few weeks ago and I had a nasty fall, hitting my eye on the outdoor tap handle. I really thought I had damaged my right eye - I was very lucky indeed. Built a barricade to keep him off the patio but he has managed to plough over that today so I’m having to be mindful where he is, he’s already turned himself upside down twice today. I also have a rescued mum and five 4-week old kittens coming into the pen tomorrow or Sunday so will be grateful for colder temperatures. Just disappointed too that the storms and rain signs have moved from this area as I needed rain for the garden. I have a large garden to keep quenched and I’m the first port of call for neighbours asking me to water pots, tubs and hanging baskets when they go away on holiday. Always grateful for rain every so often to help me out!
  17. Err……isn’t this the moans thread? Many sincere apologies if I posted in the wrong thread Guilt tripping nobody and you won’t find me doing it in winter either when people look for freezing temperatures - each to their own. Have to say, however, I have browsed this site daily for a few years now reading the model thread to see what the weather is likely to be doing going forward and can’t honestly recall people wishing sub zero temps half as frequently as people looking for mega high temperatures. As it has been said many times everyone has weather preferences and there is no problem in that whatsoever. I also get it is a weather site and as such people are legitimately interested in extremes. I am merely pointing out high temperatures (as will sub zero temperatures in winter) will (and currently are) causing people health issues and as far as I see there is nothing whatsoever wrong in having sympathy for them having to cope…..there are people who have to work very hard in these rising temperatures and I feel for them.
  18. Very difficult for you at the moment I can bet with the current weather conditions. My mum is 89 in a couple of weeks so I do worry about her in the heat, fortunately she is very sensible. My elderly neighbour was taken off to hospital Sunday with suspected heart issues. Turns out he was very dehydrated and exhausted but otherwise okay so seems it was put down to heat exhaustion. Never understand the need for wishing 30 degrees plus on people when it is the vulnerable in society who are likely to suffer with the extreme heat, as you say a nice dry 21 or 22 degrees is pleasant enough for all to enjoy.
  19. The implication was though, that winter weather is worse than hot dry weather for ailments and I am merely trying to balance out that it is not always the case.
  20. Sad story. This was Jesse. He was a semi feral who arrived in my garden. I converted my summerhouse into a cat pen and caught him in there, he was so scared and feral we needed the crush cage to handle him. I had him neutered and spent a good 2 months taming him. He turned into a lovely loving little boy who would run down the garden to greet me. Sadly he developed FIP I had to have him pts he was only about 18 months old. At the time FIP was untreatable but I think they now have a drug that can treat it. I was devastated to have lost him after turning him from a feral.
  21. Rupert is in his top hat in the spare bedroom Can’t get these top hats now, they so love them. They have eaten some of the Applaws food that was withdrawn from sale so have been a little worried about them all
  22. My 5 cats are flopped everywhere not knowing where to put themselves. I foster cats also for a local rescue and do struggle to keep my cat pen cool in this sort of heat even with sun umbrellas over it Thankfully I have no fosters in at the moment to worry about. It usually has mummy and newborn kittens in at this time of year.
  23. Not exclusively. I suffer with one or two autoimmune conditions, Sjogrens being one of them and I will say I struggle a great deal more in this hot dry weather.
  24. Quite agree, most unpleasant. No good for man or beast, my neighbour has been taken to hospital this morning for heart related issues, most likely linked to these high temperatures and even my tortoise is totally fed up of it! Struggling myself with this heat. It certainly is horrible sweaty Betty weather at the moment……roll on winter!!
  25. Yes, it does seem to be melting. I’m in Penn so quite high up.
