  1. This is part of a Discovery channel’s documentary about this historic day in U.K. weather IMG_8076.MOV Edit: after all that we get a rumble. Darn it that could have been in the show
  2. Just looked on the Shanklin cam (it moves about unfortunately) but the stuff in the channel doesn’t look particularly remarkable. Lots of the elevated lightning will be lost to the sun. Later is likely to be more interesting
  3. Cmon it will be a great day! I’ll try and waft some storms your way back up the M3
  4. I can’t speak a word of French so I don’t know what any of it says but I imagine it’s something along the lines of ”Another day of heavy thunderstorms, straight ahead. Ooh la La. Cloud cover at the marketplace. Will it ever stop? What time is it? One ticket to Paris, please. Possible hail. Yes, of course. No, just two loaves of bread. There’s a potential for severe gusts. What is your name? I live in England. Showers will continue after midnight. Please.”
  5. This first lot will be a squall - by its very nature it will be fairly short-lived at any single location… because it is a squall and that’s what they do. Interest then lies later on this afternoon… Google weather has downgraded this so I’m actually getting excited now lol
  6. It’s really slow, I wonder if it’s actually smaller cells energising as they come close to the coast then dying off and being replaced by another
  7. Heard some thunder on here a short time ago. You can see the storms are popcorn - there’s a small frenzy of flashes and then nothing for a while Still, drowned out the wailing from the alcoholic woman next door (she’s trying to sing I think). Their kids were bad but the parents are actually worse. Ugh I just want some sleep
  8. I’ll be so tired of thunderstorms by then it will be a hardship if we have any more
  9. There should be two rounds of activity - the first is more westerly early on and will bring a lot more of the midlands into play
  10. Reading the forecast over on UKWW you are in an enhanced convective zone, and it’s usually pretty accurate. Let yourself get excited about this - the form is good, we do have a decent chance
  11. Pretty certain that with tomorrow’s western (early morning) and eastern (late evening) opportunities on offer that between them the central south should see something decent. I’m tempted to head down to Butser Hill but more than likely will stay local for this one. Radars at the ready!
  12. I used to be a trainspotter (to be fair you never stop - you just spend the remainder of your life in recovery) but it’s helped me learn to not care what people think when I’m out filming or taking photos. I actually enjoy bringing it up with strangers, it really does start conversations, and on the whole people are usually fascinated to learn more. The fact is that geeks are already inheriting the earth. Embrace it - you love science, and weather - wear it like your best hat! Reminds me of a memory that came to me the other day - over in Ashdown filming a storm to the NE towards the Docklands - a guy comes up and asks to borrow my phone to call his mum or something (he had problems with his motorbike or something and didn’t have his phone or it had lost charge). But I was filming the storm with my phone. Had to try and explain that it wasn’t me being a d**k - I literally needed my phone to film the storm. Even in that situation he started asking loads of questions about it - was really interested. It was actually really annoying after a while I just wanted to be left alone to concentrate… LOL
  13. I love how many people have already called this as a monumental bust, three days early I get it - but there’s absolutely no reason to suggest a lot of people won’t be rewarded for their patience on Sunday. Main things to watch out for are: • Reliance on poor models • Cherrypicking only the runs that support what you want to see • Storms on the continent eating up all the energy Sunday afternoon • Le Clag Francais ruining everything on Sunday morning • Being in or near Sheffield
  14. It’s only Thursday. Plenty of time for the models to change their minds completely, finally settle on something that’s not supported by anyone else, and then finally for the weather to do something on the day that defies most of the forecasts put in place
  15. You know that storm of the year I was talking about the other day…
  16. Richmond Hill would be a fantastic spot then I got some excellent shots that night - plus the towering storm flickering away into the North Sea was a memorable event
  17. Metcheck going for very active storms over southern France and northern Spain, whilst the southern central Areas of the U.K. should see some nice storms Sunday evening. this is looking very good for once, and also plays into the autumn months becoming the more active months (from a convective viewpoint) for this part of the country FWIW Google also supports this, lol
