  1. These will be largely irrelevant I think as new storms should fire after sunset close to the south coast. It’s good to see that the continental air is juicy enough tho
  2. I’ve seen overplays and underplays on various sites, but the setup seems pretty sound this evening so i’m Keeping my hopes up. Main thing I’ve learned is that preparedness is king - so it can let me down later if it wants but I’d rather that than give up now and regret missing out after the event...
  3. If someone empties a few pints of Stella into the sea we might be in with a shout
  4. Imagine the far east of Kent may be able to see the heads of those continental storms by now. Skies clearing here near Lewes - which is really good
  5. I’m figuring that as it’s all based on advected heat and forcing there’s been little to scupper the chances during daylight hours. Also France is doing a good job of generating storms at the moment so i’m feeling quite positive about our overnight chances. A couple of small cells will suffice but anything more is welcome too
  6. Think this current murk over Sussex would have been quite sparky if the temps were higher.
  7. Bit quiet in here considering the chances for later on this evening. Work was a nightmare got stuck on site over near Eastbourne so I’m considering hanging about for a few hours and keeping an eye on the radar. Probably head on over towards Selsea area as otherwise it’s a 2 hour drive cross-country to get home... Fingers crossed we get a nice little opening event overnight to usher in the coming week of convective opportunities! ?? (......)
  8. I have a feeling it will be a good night - things hopefully sparking off just after it gets dark - convective weather mentioned ‘destabilisation’ which suggests to me something more significant than just thundery rain or weakened imports
  9. So next storm opportunity - tomo night! Looks like sweet spot will be central parts of the south later in the night where storms will be most widespread. Lack of shear is potentially an issue (so we’re likely to be stuck with storms of the pulse variety) BUT it’s a storm opportunity all the same
  10. That kinda happened yesterday - in farncombe (where I was watching the storm coming out of London...) Obvs not an exotic place like in Italy, but I could hear the thunder rumbling around an I was nowhere near the actual cell in fact it was clear blue sky all around me. i think it was bouncing off the hill in front of where I was sat (or something clever like that)
  11. How severe are the storms this weekend likely to be? please don’t tell me we’re having more of these annoying pulse things - SO hard to track I’m grateful for anything but seriously they drive me nuts
  12. I’ve seen a couple of lists of Airbnb properties overlooking Lake Como, I really wanna book one for like a week and use it as a base to chase some proper storms in Italy one day. That would be totally rad
  13. Looks like nothing will follow this stuff . Nothing on any radars anyway.
  14. I’ve ended up sauntering as far as Lewes but I dunno I can be bothered to go much further east. Gonna have a pint and see how things work out in the next hour
  15. I think it’s the sheer number of opportunities we’re being presented with over the upcoming weeks that’s getting people excited, not necessarily the finer details
  16. It all sounds too good to be true But back to the here and now - my car thermometer is reading 25° and I see clouds bubbling up Defo feels like there could be a storm. Gonna drive 20mins to my west towards Horsham, have a coffee/do some work somewhere around there and wait and see what happens...
  17. Timelapse of yesterday’s SE London cell as it passed over Epsom / Leatherhead way
  18. Is this elevated convection safe from nocturnal cooling? Or is it likely to peter out completely by midnight?
  19. Schoolboy error - went to the hills near farncombe and got a lovely timelpse of the CBS rolling past then realised i’d basically missed the storm that was sliding across the east of Surrey. jumped in the van but only managed to see the two last bolts over cranleigh and the whole thing shut off after that. if I’d have got there moments earlier might have caught something... At least plenty more chances to come - need to free up space on my phone anyway!
