  1. Do you think little old Leicesters Lightning Shield will be switched on tonight? Looks likely to slip east of, so flashing out to sea near Ipswich, maybe Kings Lynn....?
  2. Little bit of rain here in Leicester (central) temp was at 6c around noon, now dropping off, currently at 5.5c @ 13:08 Not sure we'll see any white stuff though....
  3. So, is that it now for 2016 plumes? Chances of another one before the weather turns totally Autumnal? Don't know, opinions please?
  4. The heavy rain warning for Leicester has just been cancelled by the met office.. Looks like we've escaped the worst.......
  5. Is this really there? It has some lightning associated with it, I think.... Northampton ish....
  6. Yes, I have just ran it frame by frame, hoping to spot A stepper, but amazing to see the strike hit, and then decay to a string of pearls, screen grabbed several, the light generated from both the strike on the hill in the distance, and the point blank strike only 250 yards away, light the whole area up to a mid summer's day at noon!!! Incredible power...... Horses didn't seem to bat an eyelid, but I bet they got a good fright, just not seen in the short clip!! Didn't spot A steppa, either.......
  7. Somebody with a weather background said years ago that thunderstorms could align with motorways, due to the additional heat generated by vehicles, and the reflected heat from the road surface, and he had thunderstorm paths plotted running up the M1, M6 and a couple of other big wide roads... This was back in the very early 1990s, and it looked pretty convincing, and I suppose there could be some truth in it, what do you wise people of Netweather think....?
  8. The short lived electrical activity around the west Midlands (Nuneaton/Cov/Brum) last evening, looked initially promising, but died out virtually straight away..... What/how does the atmosphere recover its cap so quickly? or were other forces to blame? (I'm talking about the ones that sprang up around 18:00-18:15) Thanks in advance SS
  9. Is this purple stuff anaprop in the channel, or really compact, heavy rain....?
  10. The cloud photos I posted earlier, I asked if this was early erosion of the "cap" if it was, and the resulting "popcorn" storm developed rapidly, spat out a few strikes, and the died!! Is this a case of the "cap" 're-asserting itself? Bit like an elastic band twanging back after being stretched?
  11. Gordon; The bird on BBC East Midlands 7pm Weather said "Thursday overnight into Friday morning a line of torrential thunderstorms will cross the country from west to east" "The morning commute could be really messy!"
  12. Got some fantastic short videos of this evenings storms from Barnsley, that my sister took, never seen lightning like it....! In fact I have, it reminded me of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.. You know, when the big thunderheads form with all the lightning embedded in the heads... Going to try and upload when I have a spare mo later on........
  13. This is just south west of Sheffield, around 10 minutes ago.. looks unbelievable!!!
  14. Going gradually dark here, not a well defined mother ship, but a definate edge between sunny/stormy areas......
  15. Is Leicester in danger of a side swipe...? Not sure, but stranger things have happened .....
  16. I heard that sort of thunder as a kid, I was about 10 yrs old, I have never heard anything like it since, but I remember it was a very severe storm (I'm 52 now)!!! But I remember that sound like it was yesterday.....!!!
