  1. But not for us who have to pay through the nose for heating. Roll on those hot days and nights I can sleep on the top of the duvet. For those winter lovers, bear in mind the British winter's annual cull of over 40,000, mostly pensioners. It's much cheaper to cool off than heating one's home. Suggestion: swimming pool (cheap), local river or lake (free).
  2. Sleety this morning and wet and miserable all day. Never been out today. When I looked across to the N.Wales hills they appeared white-capped. Now appears dry.
  3. Looking at the "Models" thread that warm High (should it actually materialise) could just possibly give us our first 20C of the year. Yes puleeeeeze
  4. You need to go your personal Netweather profile page, then look at the small type at the top right, click on "edit my profile" where you can add location etc.
  5. Noticed the number of daisys blooming in our local playing fields, here we generally only expect daisys in April not February.
  6. Very windy with some episodes of torrential rain. Just glad I had no reason to go out. Noticed the pressure last night before I went to bed: 959mb.
  7. Day dawned cold and clear but Sc infill developed during the morning which has remained all afternoon. Felt cold outdoors without any sun. Didn't see any frost when rising around 9am. Overnight min: 3.8C, max: 15.4C, current: 10.C. Pressure 1022mb. Wind: calm F0, visibility >10 miles. This morning first time I've needed to use a fan heater this autumn, have it on now just using the 1kW setting.
  8. Cold morning but I don't think there had been a frost. Mixed sort of day with long sunny intervals during the afternoon hence the maximum temp at my sheltered south-west facing location. Visibility >10 miles, wind: light breeze F1-2. Dry all day. Overnight min: 4.0C, max: 16.2C, current: 7.3C. Pressure this morning 1024mb but now 1022mb.
  9. Day dawned clear and cold, but no ground frost visible when I got up. The morning clouded up during the morning with a mixture of Sc and Cu.that obtained until dusk. Intermittent short sunny intervals but still cloudy when the light completely failed. Overnight min: 4.7C, max 15.7C, currently 9.3C. Pressure 1024mb. Visibility >10 miles, wind: light air F1. Looks like the warm spell has finished, we're now obviously on the slippery slide down to winter.
  10. Chilly this morning and Sc infill built up all morning but around 1:30pm a sharp edge to the cloud led to a sunny afternoon. This morning felt like a proper autumn one my the indoor temp around 16C, up to now it's been 18-19C (my place has double glazing and cavity insulation). Forgot to reset the memory of my weather station so no overnight min, but at 11am the outdoor temp was 11C, max: 14.8C, current: 9.4C dropping, pressure 1020mb. Visibility excellent >10 miles, wind: light breeze F2. Dry all day.
  11. Isn't there something about the statutory obligation to furnish gale warnings and shipping reports? There are already concerns over the longevity of the LW Droitwich transmitter because you need LW to reach outlying shipping areas - FM reliably reaches only about 60 miles.
  12. The snowiest winters during the 1960s were Dec/Jan/Feb 62/3, and Jan/Feb and early Mar '65 although temps weren't as low as '63. After that was of course 81/82, four months of lying snow Nov/Dec '81 then Jan/Feb '82.
  13. Yes, precisely 53 years. However 1981/82 was almost as bad as 1962/63. I wasn't around in 1947.
  14. Day followed the usual path: breakfast clear and chilly; late morning Sc infill, then sunny again later on. Overnight min: 7.7C, max: 18.3C, current: 11.2C dropping. Pressure 1019mb, visibility >10 miles. Currently light air F1
  15. The change of daylight hours roughly follows a sine curve with the fastest daily rate of gaining/losing daylight occurs when crossing the equinoxes. At the solstices the rate of change is only a matter of a few minutes each week for about 3 weeks either side. At my latitude (53deg) I only notice the days getting longer in early February (Imbolc or Candlemas)
  16. I'm a bare-skin winter swimmer - look at my build, I'm very well insulated . However I find the endless dreary cold of a British winter both depressing and enervating. That's another thing about the British winter: SAD
  17. Thinking of fitting my electric blanket. I can avoid using any heating as long as I'm warm in bed, especially as I sleep under an open window even if it's snowing.
  18. Given that Joaquin could end up in Biscay, could it develop into something nasty, as seen here?: We know what happened on that day and like now, the storm contained some very warm air, during daytime on 16th the temp made 20C here.
  19. Liverpool ATIS reporting 17C, dewpoint 16C. I still have 18.1C but I live in a minor UHI. Conditions outside: damp
  20. That last time that happened was the last week of October '08. I was on an overnight journey to Bournemouth 30/31 October and we faced deep snow all the way down into Hampshire.
  21. When I went to the shops half-an-hour ago light rain had begun. Still 18C outside. This is a warmer evening than during our so-called "summer".
  22. I grew up in Wirral (Heswall then Parkgate) there was a definite micro-climate.
  23. As far as I'm concerned all of 2015 has been vile and ghastly and it's now downhill all the way. Every month below normal at least in NW England.
